general problems of the 1999 Ford Expedition - part 2

I want these tires off of my car Ford has had many of problems with building safe cars( dot number: ).

The tire on my SUV separated so bad that it looked shredded off on the rim. I didnt think much about it at the time until the firestone recall on the same brand tire. According to what ive seen and read, firestone is saying they only have a problem with the 15 inch tire not the 17. I disagree after seeing pictures on tv and in the paper, my tire looked the same. I would like to know if anyone else has had any problems like this with the same size/brand tire as mine. Thanks( dot number: tire size: p265\70r-1 ).

(sent to firestone and Ford) dear sirs: we own a 1999 Ford Expedition with wilderness at, white letter, size p255/70r16 tires. Today, the vehicle has 22,000 miles on it. Last year, as we approached about 9,000 miles on the vehicle, we noticed excessive vibration especially on the highway. We had the tires balanced -- first at a retail tire store. This did not resolve the problem. We then took the vehicle to be serviced at a Ford dealership where the tires were again balanced. The vibration continued even after Ford performed their own balancing. It seems these tires could not and cannot be properly balanced. The situation has worsened over time where even at lower around town speeds, the vibration is readily evident. There are also noticeable cracks in the treads; it almost looks like dry rot! the air pressure in the tires have been meticulously monitored in order to maximize our gas mileage; so we know air pressure is not the culprit. As parents of two small children, one 5 year old boy and a 2 year old girl, we now fear for our family's safety after seeing what happens with these tires. All four tires started seperating / cracking around 11/99 . Took vehicile to firestone dealer 08/00 they inspected tires and said it was normal . I asked for a reciept they said they do not give reciepts for inspections. I told them I never had tires do that before . They had no comment. I assure you tires with 35000 miles should not do that. I sent letters to Ford & firestone they never addressed my concerns. Thats why I contacted NHTSA( dot number: tire size: 265/70/17 ).

Tires won't stay balanced (balanced 3 times - still shimmy). Tires run very hot to the touch. Dealer said this condition is normal? suprised they were not recalled by firestone also. . . . More must die before a statistical analysis shows a problem. ( dot number: tire size: p245r16 ).

I've had 5 flat tires in the 20 months I've owned this truck. Three of the 5 (including the spare) tires are showing signs of the tread cracking at the base. ( dot number: tire size: 265/70-17 ).

From the first day of ownership of our 1999 Ford Expedition -- we had difficulty with the factory equipped 17 inch wilderness at tires pulling to either side of the road while driving strait ahead at any speed. We proceeded with a lemon law complaint with massachusetts attorney general. At least 3 front end aliegnments were unsuccessful in fixing the problem. A Ford motor company engineer said the 17 inch tires were inherently unstable and nothing could be done to improve the pulling of tires. Our own mechanic detuned the front end aliegnment with in factory specifiations and this allowed the vehicle to be driven. The only problem was increase tire wear. We have replaced at approx 16,000 miles all five wilderness at tires with goodyear tires and do not appear to have th same stearing problems. (dot number: w216-1re-0 tiresize: 17).

Tire shredded so bad in a split second with no warning and no puncture was apparent. Firestone dealer replaced at no charge. . ( dot number: tire size: 25570r16 ).

Consumer driving on wet roads 26 miles at 35mph and vehicle hydroplaned. There have been many different times of hydroplaning, it would happen anytime. Dealer says they would wait for a rainy day to try duplicating the problem.

Firestone has recalled their wilderness at fifteen inch tires but I have sixteen in tires of the same brand. These tires are showing cracks at the same location where tread separation is occuring on the fifteens. I beleave that these tires on my Ford Expedition may be unsafe. How can I pursue this issue since I have this vehicle leased from Ford motor CO. These cracks are consistant on all for tires and look like they are just waiting to separate. If it belonged to me I would not drive another day on these tires but it is on a four year lease. ( dot number: tire size: p255/70r16 ).

Owner has firestone, wilderness at tires which are not on recall. All 4 tires have cracks along side of them. All tires need to be replaced.

Vehicle has four firestone wilderness/at tires, size p255/70r16. All four tires have began to separate. Tires were looked at by a garage and this was determined.

Firestone refused consumers request for reimbursement because the replacement tires were purchased prior to January, 1 2000, the consumer actually purchased the tires oct 31,2000. Nlm.

The problem that I am having is the dealership inflates my tires improperly during service. The drivers door reads that the cold pressure for the front should be 30 and the rear 35. I have been having this problem for several months and have been getting my tires serviced for free because no one wants to address the problem. They contend my tire gauge is wrong. Once I had them check them before I left the dealership and they had to let pressure out. All I would ask is that the situation be addressed before someone who does not check their tires when they leave the dealership is in a accident and hurt. Thank you in advance for your help. My tires are vibrating at different speeds, also they loose air constantly, I have had them checked at least 8 times and a substantial amount of air was missing each time!! the steering wheel is vibrating majorly at speeds of 50 to 75 mph per hour! All four tires are cracking/peeling. Called Ford & firestone and went to a firestone dealer, said their is nothing they could do about them. (tiresize: p265/70r17)( dot number: tire size: p265/70r17 ).

The firestones 16 inch wilderness on my Expedition have had 3 flats in 1 year. The tires only have 13000 miles on them. (tiresize: 16 inch)( dot number: tire size: 16 inch ).

Tires were cracked/split down the outside of the tire, consumer contacted tire dealer who stated that tires were not included in recall 00t-005, consumer replaced all four tires and consumer request reimbursement (firestone wilderness tires model 355). Nlm.

Tire rubber is splitting in the area where the tire and wheel meet largest split is appx. 6 inches long and appx 1/4 inch wide. ( dot number: tire size: 255/70/16 ).

The tires that came with the vehicle do not have a heat resistance rating on them. I checked all four tires and there are no ratings. I want to know if the rating is required by law . I want to know ,if the rating is required, do I have recourse. If the tires are illegal because they do not have the heat rating, can I have Ford or firestone replace the tires? The firestone wilderness at tires on the vehicle continually leak air.

I currently own a 1999 Ford Expedition. It was equipped from the factory with firestone wilderness at tires. In light of the various news releases that have come out, I am very concerned for the safety of myself, my wife, and my six month old son when traveling in our Expedition. I have not yet had a failure, and I understand that my size tires are not included in the stated recall, however, that doesn't ease my concern in the least. There are far greater numbers of Ford explorers on the road with 15" tires than Expeditions with 17" hence the heightened number of complaints. I have to wonder if my family has to become one of the "statistics" before the particular size of tire I have becomes included in a recall. It seems to me that if it's the same model of tire, then the same, or at least very similar, production processes are used. In short, I have no confidence in the tires on my vehicle. I have sent this same letter to firestone already and the only response has been a copy of a statement the company had already released. ( dot number: tire size: 265/70/17 ).

I get vibration when braking down hills, possible tires defective.

Extreme fish tailing, loss of traction in any type of wet condition!! dt.
