9 Tire Blowout problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2000

We were traveling on I-40 returning from a trip to colorado and had a blow out about 20 miles west of weatherford, ok. The tire was on a brand new car with only 4500 miles. We had checked the tires when we left colorado that morning and they were fine. When the tire blew, the car was very hard to control and pitched side to side wildly. My husband was able to regain control of the car and pull off the road. When road side assistance arrived, the man commented that the tire did not look like a normal blow out and that we should have it checked. I took the car back to the Ford dealership who assured me that there was nothing wrong with the tire other than a normal road hazard (this also prevented me from collecting on the tire warranty). He also was not concerned about how the car reacted to the blown tire. I do not feel that I would have been able to control the car if I had been driving. I was not pleased with the lack of concern about my comments. I spoke to at least 2 friends who can testify under oath that I made comments about my concerns about the quality of the tires and my concern about the lack of control after the tire failed. These comments were made during July 24-28 before any of the current information about Ford and firestone was made public. I regret that I did not keep the tire that blew. I hope that you will expand your investigation to include all firestone wilderness at tires as well as the Ford Expedition. ( dot number: vncu 1rd 4 tire size: p255/70r16 ).

10 Tire Blowout problem

The tire blew while driving around 70 mph. The recall started shortly after we had it replaced. We asked bill currie Ford to replace it under warrantee because it looked like a defect not a regular blow out. The tread was completely seperated from the tire. They refused saying the tires were not under warrantee. We should have reported this when the recall was anounced, but when we finally decided to replace all five firestone tires Ford gave us your website to report our original blow out. We do not have the tire that blew but we did store the four remaining firestone tires, with the same dot number. (dot number: w2cu tiresize: 255/70r16).
