4 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2017

Tamara recall.

5 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/06/2017

While in traffic, at least 100 times in the last four years (at variable speeds from 5 to 65 mph on city streets and freeways) most recently twice in the last week, the rpms drop below 500 and the vehicle dies and "engine failsafe mode" lights up on the dash. I have to either coast to pull over or dead stop in the middle of the road. I have to turn the vehicle completely off (even though in failsafe mode engine is off, the electronics are still on) and then restart and then it will drive just fine until it happens again. It happens anywhere from once every 6 months to 6 times in 1 week. It seems as though if I drive with both feet in traffic and maintain about 800-1000 rmps at all times it doesn't do this, however this cannot be done all the time especially when trying to stop the large vehicle quickly or turning in an intersection. Nothing has been diagnosed by dealership as no codes are thrown. I also own a obd2 reader and no codes have ever listed unless its time to change the spark plugs. Several different mechanics, forums and brainstorming has not figured it out. I have replaced mostly everything with exception to a new transmission and computer. Mostly everything including wires and vacuum lines and gaskets have been replaced due to maintenance or repairs from everything else that has gone wrong with it. I have put about $10k into new parts for this vehicle. I bought it with 60k miles on it and it now has 117k, its a daily driver with 28 miles of travel 5 days a week. Also the only vehicle that fits all of the children for soccer, track and volleyball traveling tournaments/games. Luckily it doesn't happen very often when I'm not in traffic so the kids aren't usually with me but it is very scary not to know if you are going to stop or if the people behind you are going to hit you or not.

6 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/27/2016

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that the engine fail safe mode warning light flashed and the vehicle drastically reduced speed and stalled without warning. The contact had to apply force to coast the vehicle off the road. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the computer needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.

7 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2015

I was driving down the freeway approximately 50 mph when my engine completely shut down. There was a beep and a light came on that said "enginer fail safe mode". The engine shut off, but luckily I still had full movement of my steering wheel so I was able to change lanes and get off to the shoulder. I panicked for a moment, but started the car and it started right back up. I attempted my drive to work and made it there. Not sure what to do about the problem, but I'm scared to drive it anymore. Especially with my children in the vehicle and my husband is out of town for work. This is a major safety issue and needs to be recalled.

8 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/05/2015

Tl- the contact owns a 2006 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph today, the vehicle suddenly lost power. The "engine fail safe mode" warninig illuminated on the dashboard. The contact coasted to the side and shut off the engine. The vehicle was restarted after a few minutes but the warning indicator recurred. The contact called a local dealer who was unable to explain the failure, but asked to see the vehicle for diagnosis. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. Th failure mileage was 95,962.

9 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/29/2015

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled. On another occasion, the vehicle stalled after the vehicle engine safety mode was initiated while driving approximately 5 mph. The vehicle was restarted but the failure recurred five minutes later. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.

11 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/29/2014

Engine frequently goes in to engine failsafe mode. This happens typically when the car is being lightly throttled such as around corners or in rush hour traffic. The car restarts fine, but must be completely turned off, which disables airbags, makes power steering and power brakes impossible to use. Previously I have cleaned the throttle body of the car at the suggestion of numerous mechanics, and this resolved the issue for nearly a year. Now the problem is back again. I'm concerned for my wife's safety. The throttle body needs to be redesigned as the throttle plate sticking returning invalid data to the computer sending the engine into failsafe mode.

12 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/21/2014

Engine just shuts off, especially at a stand still & a/c on. Not as often if a/c is not on.

13 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2014

Was driving down the road when Expedition started to lurch and not shift properly. Took it in to auto shop and they diagnosed that pistons 3 and 7 were misfiring. Went to change spark plugs and plugs broke off in the engine. Had to order special tool to remove them, second time they have had to be replaced both times they have broken off. Cost was over 1500. 00.

14 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2013

Vehicle simply shuts off at any time and shows 'engine fail safe mode'. This has happened approximately 15 times since we bought the vehicle (used) in March 2012 (most recently on 10/13). I have researched this online and many other owners have the same complaint. We replaced the tps at a cost of around $300 as a possible fix and this worked for about 6 months - now the problem is back and my research indicates we need to have the throttle body replaced. This will cost us around $500 - for a total repair cost of around $800 - which we cannot afford! Ford has literally $hundreds of millions to take care of this and must recall due to this issue - there is no excuse to allow this dangerous problem to continue. Ford motor CO. Owes me $800 due to their poor engineering and unwillingness to solve this issue - they are greedy crooks.

15 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2013

Lemon! 2006 Ford Expedition beginning of June it started "bogging" down while driving. We took it to autozone, misfire. Took it to a mechanic we know and he told us the codes showed 6,7,8 sparkplugs. Trying to save $. This helped a little, started doing it again but worse, this time it was decelerating we were going 75 & check engine light started flashing & bogged down to 50 on the hwy almost cause several wrecks as I tried to pull over to the side (with my kids in the car) took it into the mechanic & other spark plugs coil packs & 1 injector got it fixed picked it up & didn't even get down the road & it did it again. This time check engine light went off after flashing. Took it back to him & no codes couldn't find anything. Went hm & almost got in a wreck again! it decelerate to 45 after going 70. We went hm, next morning going to take it back to him again!! while driving, a/c turned off, door sensor alarm fail popped up, another sensor fail, &pulled over put in park & wouldn't come out of park. Called mechanic, after so many look overs thinking it was pcm, security module, he gives up after 2 wks of working on it. We get it hm & start looking on here & find so much about this like its going in safe fail mode without shutting off. Start looking at all the other forums & this yr model had 362 complains on another site & many on here, several of this same deal. We started with fuses #5 blown, change blows immediately, change again blows again. Start chasing wires, change again starts up. Okay great!!! now rough idle, way bad who cares it starts! drive it to work, we desperately need my car & Ford cant get to it for 1 1/2 months. Starts stalling while driving again a/c shuts off and slows down. Ford needs to fix this before it kills someone! this is a major defect that will kill! I have found this same issue on this same site a lot! why isn't anything being done? help!!!!!!!!!.

16 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that the compressor and the air conditioning failed. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that the compressor was leaking, causing the air conditioner from functioning properly. The current mileage was 59,174 and the failure mileage was unavailable.

17 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2012

I have this problem where my truck is losing power and then dying while I am driving. This is very dangerous on the roadways. I have a special needs child and grand children that I transport. Ford needs to recall these trucks and fix them.

18 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/26/2011

While driving my 2006 Ford Expedition eddie bauer, the engine completely shuts off. Sometimes while sitting idle and other times while driving 70 mph on the interstate. Tonight, within 1 hour this happened about 15 times where the engine cut off, I lost power steering, had to roll over to the shoulder, turn the key off and back on to restart. . . Sometimes it would take up to 10 minutes to restart. I was lucky we were not hit from behind. I have 2 kids in carseats still that could have been injured. Research online reveals that I am not alone. This is a very dangerous defect that could get somebody killed.

19 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2011

2006 Ford Expedition e. B. And engine failsafe mode 1. The events leading up to the failure: there are no detectable events preceding whatever causes the vehicle to go into "engine failsafe" mode. The vehicle runs fine as it always does and then it just happens randomly. 2. The failure, how often it occurs, its consequences: failure occurs at random and is not predictable it just happens. The vehicle operates normally as it should and in a spilt second it is like the vehicle just shuts off, the information center displays "engine in failsafe mode". The engine is actually running in failsafe mode but only at an idle, the power steering and brakes function however the throttle is totally unresponsive in failsafe mode, the vehicle slows to a creep and will stop at the slightest incline. When the vehicle stops the only available option is to turn the key off and restart. The vehicle always restarts and resumes normal operation and driveabilty is fine, just as though nothing ever happened. The occurance first happend early in January 2010, again in late January, then in September 2010 then again on February 26 then twice today February 28 about 20 minutes apart. The consequences: scary, dangerous, hazardous. Feels like an insurance claim and/or a lawsuit waiting to happen. When a vehicle under power just shuts off instantly for no apparent reason it is logical serious injury or worse is a realistic consequence. 3. What was done to correct the failure: so far just a lot of Ford guesswork. The internet has a significant number of consumer posts regarding various repairs made. The reported repairs range from sensors, spark plugs, coils, cats, filters, converters and more. The common thread in these consumer reports is the problem still exists and occurs randomly after repair.

20 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2011

I was driving my 2006 Ford Expedition & the fail safe engine light came on & that stops the gas pedal from working. You then coast over to the side of the road & turn the truck off & restart it like nothing happend . This has happend 2 times about 3 months apart. I had the truck check by bob boyd Ford & they said it needed the throttle body & gas pedal sensor replaced,I called Ford & filed a complaint of how dangerous this is, especially if you are making a left turn in on coming traffic( my Ford case number 1334700411) I then went on a Ford truck forum & found that many others had the same problem with Ford f-150 & Expeditions all 2006 models. A person recomended that I replace the throttle position sensor ,so I did at bob boyd Ford for $196. 58. I also kept the old part. The new part is diffrent in size & has metal key holes instead of plastic. The fail safe engine is only suppose to come on if the engine coolant is very low according to the Ford owners manuel, there was no reason for it to come on at any time in my SUV truck. Ford wrote me & the ohio attorney generals office & said that I have fixed the problem by replacing the throttle position sensor on my own & me paying for it ( case closed). Ford never said any thing to me about replaceing the throttle position sensor to fix this problem. Again they said it was the throttle body & gas pedal sensor.

21 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2011

2006 Ford Expedition shuts off while driving. Extremely dangerous. Car will start back up without any problems but will shut down sparadically.

22 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2010

I was driving 45 miles an hour down a major highway when my engine in my 2006 for Expedition just shut down without warning and went into "fail -safe mode". Thank god I was able to cross 3 lanes of traffic without incident to get to the shoulder. I shut off my car as the manual told me too. After 20 mins I was able to restart the car. I drove to the nearest dealership so they could look into the issue. It was diagnosed as needing a replacement throttle body. When I asked "what happened? why did this happen?", I was told "it just happens," and "there is nothing preventative that can be done. ". Conveniently this part was not covered by my 100,000 mile powertrain warranty that Ford is so proud of on its used vehicles. This repair cost me $609. . Read more...

23 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2010

My wife, three kids and myself were in our 2006 Ford Expedition limited coming down a mountain pass in lake tahoe when all of a sudden the engine stopped! a code on the dash read "fail safe engine mode". The steering wheel locked and there was no power, no acceleration. I was lucky to pull to the side of the road. The following day, I took the truck to the carson city, nv Ford dealer and paid for a diagnostic. Notes from dealer: road test could not verify. Performed eec self test, has code p0104. Performed wiggle test and pinpoint tests. Performed recorder-monitor test all the pids looked good. Removed the maf sensor. Has debris on the maf sensor wires. Recommend a new maf sensor. " I put in a new maf sensor and air filter. In driving less than 3 miles after this was done, the truck did the same thing. The "fail safe engine mode" came on, loss of power and acceleration. I had to turn the truck off completely, remove key and restart. Then the truck did not hold the idle and died. After a second time, the truck restarted. I am still driving with the check engine light off and have another appointment with the Ford dealer tomorrow morning (6-24-10) to see what is going on. We are supposed to leave tomorrow and drive 1100 miles to return to denver.

24 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/13/2010

Sparks plugs blew out right at 60,000 miles on 2006 Ford Expedition on our way from maryland to louisiana. Started getting problems in north carolina. After spending 2000. 00 for hotel, rental car and possible fix by firestone. . It still was not working. Brought to Ford dealership and said it was spark plugs that blew and a common thing for f150s and it would cost over 7,000. 00 to fix it and recommended trading it in. So we did cause we had no choice with the truck being in nc.

25 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2010

Engine shuts off while running. Last time on the freeway. My mechanic says the systems reads ok on computer diagnostic, but the fail-safe system definitely shut the engine down due to a possible glitch in the system. Dealers "see" good readings for throttle system and will not replace a "good" part. When this happens, car has no power with no warning. It has happened twice and we don't know when it will happen again.

26 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2008

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Expedition. While driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle completely shut off without warning. The vehicle had to be maneuvered across four lanes of traffic, but was restarted on the first attempt. The current and failure mileages were 30,000. Updated 09/10/08. Updated 09/11/08.

27 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2006

I bought a 2006 Ford Expedition and 3 months later while my dad was driving it accelerated by it self and my dad die in the accident caused by unexpected acceleration of the vehicle.
