The failure was self-corrected but returned intermittently. The check engine warning light illuminated, and the failure became more persistent. The contact stated that while idling, the transmission was downshifting. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the tcm and engine had failed. The mechanic had stated the tcm needed to be flushed, and the computer system needed reprogramming. The vehicle was in the process to be repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline. The approximate failure mileage was 149,000.
