1 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2021

On June 30, 2021, while driving in a parking lot, "low brake fluid" warning lite came on then brake pedal went to floor. Brake fluid was added at scene but problem repeated it self. Car was towed to shop and diagnosed as master cylinder failure with brake fluid in booster. The parts were replaced and problem was solved. There is approx. 51000 miles on vehicle. Fortunately, this occurred at low speed in a church parking lot. I can't imagine what would have happened on the hiway at speed! defective parts are available for inspection.

2 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2020

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while her husband was driving approximately 30 mph, the brakes became spongy with an unknown warning light illuminated. The contact stated that after driving an additional four miles, and attempting to pull into a parking space, the brake pedal was depressed and went to the floor. After pumping the brake pedal several times, the vehicle stopped with an unknown warning light illuminated. Roadside assistance arrived and the tow truck driver stated that there was no brake fluid inside the brake master cylinder. The vehicle was towed to galpin Ford (15505 roscoe blvd, van nuys, CA 91343, (818) 787-3800) and the contact was informed that the brake master cylinder and the brake booster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and filed a case. The approximate failure mileage was 37,222.

3 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2020

Tl the contact owns a 2016 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while stopped at a stop sign, the low brake fluid level warning light illuminated. The contact stated that while driving at 65 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and went to the floorboard failing to effectively slow the vehicle to a stop. The contact shifted the vehicle into neutral to slow the vehicle. The contact stopped the vehicle and shifted into reverse and the vehicle independently accelerated. The contact depressed the brake pedal and shifted the vehicle into park. The contact stated that her husband added two bottles of brake fluid to the reservoir and stated that there were no leak was visible. The contact stated the failure persisted. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the brake master cylinder and brake booster needed to be replaced. A dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA campaign number: 20v332000 (service brakes, hydraulic) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

4 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 06/05/2020

Master cylinder failed completely while stopped. Brake pedal dropped to the floor with no back pressure. Brake fluid had drained into the brake booster. Same problem as the recalled f150! rear brakes were ruined presumably to front master cylinder failing silently.

5 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 06/26/2019

Issue with braking system. Warning light turned on indicating low brake fluid, and within mile, the brake pedal hit the floor. Vehicle was in motion on a city street, and the brake failure was immediate. Was very fortunate I was on an uncrowded city street and was able to roll into a grocery store parking lot without incident. No leaking identified anywhere near the master cylinder or brakes.

6 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2018

Catastrophic brake failure during normal operation on a city street I was able to safely stop due to a low fluid light but by the time I was at a safe place to stop the brakes had almost completely failed. I had to be towed to dealer. Was told the master cylinder, brake booster, valve assembly, and vacuum brake sensor all needed to be replaced because the mc was leaking into the brake booster causing them to fail. This is the exact issue that the 2013-2014 f150s (very similar platform) had a recall for. Https://media. Ford. Com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2016/05/25/Ford-motor-company-issues-one-safety-recall-and-one-safety-compl. Html service tech stated the mc had likely been leaking for some time to cause the failure. I had the vehicle in for routine maintenance at the dealer which included a full brake inspection which was given a clean bill of health less than one month prior to this failure.

7 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2018

Wife was driving home from work when the "low brake fluid" warning light came on going 45 mph. Less that one minute later when she went to stop and the brake pedal went to the floor and the vehicle would not slow down. Thankfully she was going up hill and able to get the vehicle to stop safely. Checked the brake master cylinder reservoir and there was no fluid in it. Checked the brake master cylinder for visible leaks and did not see any fluid.

8 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2018

Sudden and complete brake failure while driving the vehicle. Traveling with the vehicle on the highway when a warning message was displayed on the dash "low brake fluid". I touched the brake pedal and it depressed completely to the floor. I was able to stop the vehicle using engine braking and the emergency brake. Inspected the vehicle, no visible leaks at any of the wheels or in the engine bay. Brake fluid reservoir was empty. Had vehicle taken to closest Ford dealer. Was diagnosed with a damaged master cylinder that leaked into the brake booster and had to be completely replaced.
