My variable valve timing actuator is not functioning properly only after 60,000 miles. Jacob's auto repair in sturgis, sd had confirmed the problem. There is already a case for this problem. But my VIN number is not listed in the case and it should be as it fits all criteria. My check engine light is on.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that there was an abnormal rattling sound coming from the vehicle while cold starting the vehicle. The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving on several occasions at various speeds, there was a thumping sound coming from the vehicle. The check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was steered to the side of the road and turned off. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 75,000.
Since we bought our car, it has had a rattle upon startup. This was originally a recall, which we got repaired, but this repair did not make the rattle go away. I then had a transmission problem and had to have the transmission overhauled due to it having violent, jerky, unpredictable shifting between gears. When I mentioned the rattle again while they were fixing the transmission, they said that it’s a known problem with Ford cam phasers around our model year. They informed me that the fix offered in the recall was an electronic fix, but the actual parts need to be replaced and the recall didn’t cover that. The parts replacement was almost $4000, and from my research, not replacing these parts can cause the engine to stop functioning properly over time. In the past two weeks, I have been getting safety notices from my car that there are timing issues that need to be serviced. Contacting Ford did not help as there is no active recall for this problem. From my research, there is an active lawsuit open against Ford for this cam phaser problem with my year model car. Overall, cam phasers play a critical role in enhancing the efficiency, performance, and reliability of 10-speed engines by enabling precise control over the engine’s valve timing. However, after just replacing my transmission we cannot afford to pay another $4000 for this error. Ford said they cannot help unless there is a recall on the vehicle.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was unknown.

Ford issued a recall on the cam phasers for some vehicles this year make and model. Ours was never recalled but obviously faulty as we are having to replace the motor at 80000 miles.
After the engine would warm up a loud knocking started without warning lights. After driving it to the dealer they stated, "you need a new engine, it probably had a blown rear main". The engine has 154,550 nearly all freeway miles. Regular maintenance. No prior issues other that a deer strike, which was repaired.
In June 2024, my 2019 Ford Expedition experienced serious transmission and powertrain problems. Diagnostic testing identified catalyst efficiency codes (p0430), and I was given a repair estimate that included catalytic converter replacement. The vehicle also displayed repeated “service engine soon” and “powertrain malfunction/reduced power” warnings. Because the vehicle became undrivable and the repair costs were unaffordable, I was forced to release it to auction in June 2024, resulting in a significant financial loss. In April 2025, Ford issued recall 24e13 acknowledging that pcm programming errors could falsely trigger catalyst efficiency codes (such as p0430), potentially leading to unnecessary catalytic converter replacements, exactly the condition my vehicle experienced. This recall defect directly contributed to the loss I suffered, as I still owed about $11,000 on the vehicle when I could no longer use it. I have already opened a case with Ford (case #cxh05645573c2w6r6), but I have not received meaningful assistance. When I contacted Ford customer service, I was not offered escalation or resolution. I was only told to call another phone number, which left my case unresolved. I respectfully request that NHTSA review Ford’s handling of this defect, including the financial impact on owners like myself who incurred substantial losses before the recall was announced.

When I cold start my 2019 Ford Expedition limited it has a ticking noise under the hood coming from the engine. Remote start or in the cab button start noise happens. Would like this fixed ASAP as the manufacturer Ford is aware of the problem. I’ve own a 2004 Ford explorer XLT never had any problems except wear and tear. Silverado was my 1st truck no problems. I love Ford trucks, I’m embarrassed by this. Please honor your slogan “built Ford tough” thank you.
My Ford Expedition has lost power 4 times requiring me to pull off the interstate and have the car towed. I have been driving 75-80 mph each time this has happened. It is as if the car takes a big deep breath, and then loses all power. It failed most recently on halloween 2023, and then again in March of 2024. Prior to these two times, the car has lost power 2 other times. It has always been serviced at a Ford dealership. All three times including this last time the dash lights on the car have read, "powertrain failure" and "pre-collision brake assist not available". When it failed in March, even though it registered a code both on my dash and in my Ford pass app, the dealership said they could not reproduce the problem therefore, there was nothing they could fix. I am scared to get behind the wheel of this car. I also do not want to sell it to anyone else for fear they will have the same problem. Cars don't just lose power while driving 75 mph. It is dangerous and a definite safety concern. It is not like I am driving a pinto. This was a brand new car, is fully paid for, has clean maintenance records, and is an expensive vehicle. It has been well taken care of and should not have power failure four times at only 4 years old. It is terrifying to be driving at high speed and lose power. I have been very lucky to not have caused a secondary accident on the freeway, or been in an accident myself when this has happened.

August 08, 2023 on highway while driving, powertrain malfunction/reduced power warning appear, followed by a pre-collision assist failure and an electrical fault with turbocharger sensor. Pulled over, waited 30 minutes, restarted and all warnings went away. 9/11/23 vehicle diagnosed with cam phaser failure. 11/22/23 cam phaser repair completed. 11/23/23 while driving on highway, same series of events as August occurred. However, this time the service engine soon light did not go away. Returned home on 11/25/23. On 11/26/23, while driving in neighborhood the engine lost all mechanical power(ability to steer, provide any acceleration, or shift gears). Vehicle towed to dealership. Diagnosed with a snapped timing chain and associated timing components (e. G. , pistons). Had this occurred while driving on highway or other major thoroughfare, not only would the occupants lives been at risk but the lives of those around me would have been at risk because the ability to maneuver the vehicle was impaired and loss of control would have occurred.

Complete failure of the timing chain components. Vehicle completely shut down while driving on the interstate, almost causing me to get rear ended. The problem has been diagnosed and confirmed by an independent service center. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealership. They stated this is a very common issue and "they're not sure why Ford had done a recall on the timing chain and timing chain components. " no warning lights ever came on, the only symptom that occurred was the timing chain rattle on cold starts.

Car has 49700 miles. I was traveling on highway at speed and tried to accelerate to merge into exit lane traffic and engine and power train completely cut out and transmission failure light with wrench came on. Luckily cars behind me were able to slow down and avoid an accident but this could have been deadly. Thank god my children were not in the car. Car was previously taken to dealership in January of 2023 for transmission shifting issues and repair work was done. Car is also “hard shifting” into gear from park, causing whole car to jerk. Car routinely “hard shifts” when accelerating onto highway and “hard shifts” when slowing in rush hour traffic.
