40 Seat Belt problem

Failure Date: 06/07/2024

In or around October I reported my seatbelt tensioner/retractor explosive device deployed almost causing me to have an accident. After really complaining to Ford, they finally fixed it. Now my warning light came on pertaining to my passenger side tensioner. I also received the notice, and went to my dealership. They had the vehicle for a week and could not fix it. They said Ford has to ok it and supply the parts, and it could take all the way to the end of 2024. They gave me the vehicle back, refused a loaner and said their hands were tied. I can tell you first hand that someone may die or cause a serious accident if driving at high speed when the device deploys. It is as loud as a 45 cal or shotgun, inside the cab. The spl is enormous and the seatbelt tightens 3 to 4 inches, causing disorientation, total fear and loss of control of the vehicle. My incident caused me to have irregular heartbeat and I ended up in the hospital. They need to replace these devices ASAP, befoe someone dies.

42 Seat Belt problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2024

My wife was driving her 2019 Expedition alone approximately 50 mph and unexpectedly heard what she described as a gunshot and the seatbelt instantly tightened against her. There was no warranted reason for this incident. There was no collision, not even a jolt to the vehicle such as a pothole or the like. This is the second time occurrence to this vehicle. The front passenger side seatbelt did this 7 months ago with no one seated there. The airbag light has been on since the first incident. Now the driver's seatbelt is stuck in that position, will not retract or adjust at all. We will be bringing the vehicle in to a dealer to access issue.

I am filing a complaint because they released this recall and are not putting any effort into finding a solution. This recall is affecting our livelyhood and should be a pretty straight forward fix. 50 Seat Belt problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2024

My seatbelt light came on. I took it to the dealership with 102,000 miles, and they said it was not covered under Ford's warranty (8 years or 80,000 miles) and also not covered under my extended warranty (up to 120,000 miles). I planned to purchase the part and have my husband repair it. Before I was able to repair it, the pretensioner deployed while I was driving it. It made a loud noise and locked the driver's seat belt, which is no longer usable. I've owned several vehicles, some of which I've driven over 200,000 miles (Hyundai). I find it odd that Ford won't repair this. Surely the seat belt system has to last longer than 80,000 miles, especially on a $60,000+ vehicle. I would be upset if I purchased a new Expedition for $95,000 and the seat belts didn't last 100,000. Knowing that this is an issue with this year, make and model, why wouldn't Ford fix this when I brought it in? is Ford waiting for more incidents to happen before taking action? this could.

60 Seat Belt problem

Failure Date: 08/18/2023

I was getting into my car to drive out of my drive way. Put on my seatbelt(driver side). Started to put it in drive then I heard a loud pop, then it felt like something hit my chest. My husband and daughter were in the car with me and didn’t see anything. I could smell a slight burning smell. After recovering from the pain I opened the door to try to see what happened. We notice the driver side seatbelt would not retract and was loose. We have called the local dealership to bring in.

62 Seat Belt problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2023

The vehicle was parked when we heard a loud popping noise. I then saw white powder and smelled a horrible smell. Upon inspection the passenger seat side panel had popped open. It seemed like an airbag had deployed. I had a restraint indicator light on at that point. It was taken to a Ford dealership where they told me it couldn’t have been an airbag it was just a faulty seatbelt sensor. Which by the way there was a recall for that exact thing on the 2020 but, not the 2019 so 750$ later. . They’re going to fix it.

63 Seat Belt problem

Failure Date: 07/24/2023

On July 24th 2023, at approximately 2:15pm my wife and I were completely stopped at a red traffic light on 66th st n that crosses ulmerton rd in pinellas county florida. We were talking and listening to the radio, when all of a sudden, a loud shotgun or explosive sound filled the vehicle. I got hit with something in the chest that felt like a punch or a kick, knocking me out of breath. But my wife only heard the extremely loud noise. I was clutching my chest in pain as I thought I was shot. When the light turned green, I immediately pulled into a dunkin donuts parking lot, and we exited the vehicle. There was no damage whatsoever on the inside and outside of the vehicle, but we smelled gun powder. My driver's seatbelt was stuck in the retracted position. I slowly drove to my home at 6500 30th avenue n, st petersburg, FL 33710. I immediately called the pinellas county sheriff's department to report the incident, because at the time I thought it was a gunshot. They have a record under my phone number. I had no idea what the loud gun sound was, so I started to research and found the driver's seat belt tensioner charge must have gone off. I called auto nation Ford and made an emergency appointment to bring the vehicle in. I explained everything to them, then dropped the vehicle off. Upon doing a full inspection, the auto nation Ford mechanic determined there was a factory short in the air bag circuit, which caused the seatbelt tensioner charge to explode. They found the location, under the center console & replaced all necessary wiring, sensors, modules, tensioner & seatbelt. I researched and found recalls for 2020 Expeditions and 2018 f150 pickups, but there was no recall for the 2019 Expedition. I can't imagine what would have happened if we were going fast on an interstate when it happened. Now I get in my 2 Ford vehicles and worry about it happening again. T turned out the kick in the chest was the seatbelt retracting 4 inches pulling me back in the seat.

64 Seat Belt problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2022

The ecoboost 3. 5 engine has a common issue with the cam phasers. My vehicle has had oil changes done, every 9,000 miles and now needs the cam phasers to be replaces. It has 83,000 miles. I believe this is a known defect that Ford is trying to remedy with customer satisfaction campaigns, rather than a recall. Had the 21b10 TSB performed and which is a requirement and the car shudders and the transmission shifts poorly. Also, the driver's side seat best will not retract fully.
