1 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2024 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 05/06/2025

We are driving cross country. Three times the adaptive cruise control has accelerated and showed a new speed going as much as from 74 mph to 107 the third time. The second it went 75 to 88. I can’t remember the first but I know we had a sudden acceleration and quickly disengaged as we did all three sessions. Now we are finishing our trip to our summer home in maryland without engaging because we don’t trust the system.

2 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2024 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 04/08/2025

While using the adaptive cruise control, the speed of the vehicle rapids accelerates. If set to any speed less than 50, the vehicle speeds up to 56mph. If set to any speed greater than 56 but less than 86 mph, the speed of the vehicle accelerates to 86 mph. I have tested this issue over and over. I haven't talked to the dealership yet, but plan to today. Very scary to have the vehicle accelerate for no reason and for no driver input. The acceleration is fairly abrupt. The speed does not decline only speeds up.

3 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2022 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 02/26/2025

When I am completely stop, if I press the cruise control button, it will set the speed at 15 mph. And will start moving till reaches that speed. I can reproduce that at will, you can see a video here https://youtu. Be/_d28ui4wqnm after googling this issue, found that I am not the first customer that happens to have that issue. . Read more...

4 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2019 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 02/14/2025

The transmission has delays in shifting up and down causing unpredictable ability to accelerate when entering highways in front of speeding vehicles. The Ford technician confirmed the issue and stated that ultimately, the transmission could fail at anytime. The Ford technician strongly encouraged me to replace the transmission after his the dealership inspected the vehicle and were able to replicate the problem. This was an out of pocket expense. Ford has detailed this failure in technical service bulletin 25-2023 which states harsh engagement delayed engagement harsh shift delayed shift.

5 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2022 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 01/03/2025

Several incidents in which adaptive cruise control resets itself to 90mph when moving into a higher speed limit area- for example, cruising along at 70mph, pass a speed limit sign allowing 75mph, and suddenly the cruise control resets at 90mph. If you are not very consciously thinking about this you quickly find yourself going 90mph. It never resets at 80 or 85- always 90mph. Going 15 or 20 mph faster than thought or planned certainly grabs your attention and is a safety risk.

6 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2023 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 11/15/2024

The contact owns a 2023 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds with the adaptative cruise control activated, the vehicle failed to decelerate automatically upon approaching another vehicle, requiring the contact to depress the brake pedal. The pre-collision warning light was illuminated, and the vehicle made an abnormal beeping sound. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the contact was informed that the vehicle was operating as designed; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where the contact was informed that a software update would become available in spring of 2025 to correct the failure. The vehicle was later taken to sarasota Ford (707 s washington blvd, sarasota, FL 34236), where the contact was informed that the software update was not yet available. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that a software update would become available to correct the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 9,000.

7 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2023 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 09/30/2024

On three separate occasions, the car started accelerating by itself while speed control was engaged. Once I noticed, I stepped on the brakes and the speed control was disengaged before any accidents happened.

8 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2022 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 07/31/2023

While driving with cruise control set at 65mph the vehicle will maintain set speed for a undetermined amount of time at which point the vehicle cruise will jump to a very high setting of 88mph. . . . Forcing me to shut the system down. . . This happens frequently and I can't determine what sets it off. Ford dealer can't find anything wrong . Also the lane assist will constantly warn of not holding the wheel or lane in fractions forcing me to shake the steering wheel to let the system know I'm holding the wheel.

9 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2022 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 07/02/2023

My Expedition has adaptive cruise control. I was driving on the interstate at around 65 mph with the adaptive cruise set. I was raining, so I set it to max range. It worked fine for the first few minutes of rain. As cars started to slow down, mine sped up and put me in an extremis situation where I had to forcibly apply the brakes. It was following the car in front of mine fine at around 55 mph, but then sped up despite the car getting closer as if there wasn't a car there. Only after I applied the brakes did I start getting an error that adaptive cruise and collision assist were not working due to a sensor being blocked. I've driven in rain many times and have never had this error. As far as I can tell the forward sensor failed due to moisture and instead of the adaptive cruise turning off, it actually caused the vehicle to accelerate since cruise was set to 65 mph. Sensor failed in a 5 minute rain storm. Software design does not fail safe, but rather the opposite.

10 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2022 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 11/30/2022

General: while driving this rental vehicle over the span of three days, I noticed and confirmed over a dozen times that the vehicle's speed control would dramatically increase with no driver input or actions. Specific: the vehicle's cruise control would be on and active, set at various speeds; 55, 60, 65, 70, 75 (long, straight road with varying speed limits). In different circumstances (sometimes when being overtaken by another vehicle, or cresting a hill or when beginning to climb a hill), the speed control, while set would immediately, with no driver input other than light steering increase to 15-30 mph above the speed at which the cruise control was set. Over the period of three days of rental I was able to verify this behavior many times and I was able to capture a video that shows the speed set increase from 65 mph to 90 mph immediately, and the vehicle would begin aggressive acceleration. I have a clear video of the steering wheel and gauge cluster that I cannot attach to this report, but will email upon request. In the video, the malfunction is at the 13 second mark. In this video, the speed control setting increased from 65mph immediately to 90mph and the vehicle started accelerating. Switching the speed control off, or tapping the brake ceased the acceleration, as expected. Vehicle was reported to national car rental and an attempt was made to report it to Ford. Because it was a rental, I am unaware of any corrective action or inspection that may have, or may take place.

11 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2019 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 11/20/2022

Fyi request #588758 let me know if you have any info I sent this letter on November 20, 2022 and as of January 10, 2023 I have had no response from Ford motors: james d. Farley, jr. Office of the ceo Ford motor company 1 american road dearborn, michigan 48126 2019 Ford Expedition acc-cruise control potential safety problem mr. Farley, I wanted to let you know of a bizarre recent acc cruise control issue with my 2019 Expedition. It has ~30,000 miles on it and has performed very well without problem before and after this incident. Several weeks ago I was driving on an interstate highway in a construction zone with stop and go traffic, and had the acc on. I slowed down behind a dull colored black Chevrolet pickup that had dark lens covers over the tail lights and a dark cover over the license plate to about 5 mph. Suddenly the acc had full acceleration then the auto safety braking slowed me abruptly, then the acc hit full acceleration again and the auto brake engaged. I turned the acc off, and then back on, and it did the exact acceleration and safety braking so I turned the acc off. There was no accident or problem other than this acceleration/braking sequence. When I no longer was behind the pickup I tried and acc and it has worked perfectly since then, as it had prior to this bizarre issue the acc seemed to not see this pickup truck but the auto safety braking system did. The pickup was an unusual non factory appearing paint job, dark gray or black not just a primer, and the tail lights and license plates also had some darkening coating. It seemed to be stealth to the acc, but not to the braking system. Maybe referred to the engineering section of the acc group to see if they have heard of this before or have any idea what occurred to help prevent any risks involving the Ford acc system. Again there was no accident or collision, only the sudden acceleration/braking. This only occurred one time on this 2019 Expedition and never on our other Ford products.

13 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2020 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/09/2021

While traveling at highway speed on I-95 north around 10am, the vehicle brake quickly and abruptly activated which reduced the vehicle speed by 15-20 mph. Within seconds, the vehicle returned to previously set speed with adaptive cruise activated. This incident occurred while passing a tractor trailer truck. The truck was in the center lane and I was passing on the far left lane. As I started to pass the truck, the brake activated when within 10-20 feet of the truck for a moment then returned to previously set speed (75 mph). This happened so quickly and unexpectedly, I did not notice any warning indicators on the dash display. Fortunately there were no vehicles closely behind me so there was little risk of an accident this time! due to this incident, I have not used adaptive cruise since nor have I taken the vehicle to a dealer.
