I own a 2018 Ford Expedition 3. 5l ecoboost. This is an engine and vehicle that is known to be problematic. In 2020 I took my vehicle to the dealership to have the noisy cam phasers fixed, a TSB was found and the parts hl3z cam phasers were replaced under the powertrain warranty. Now in September of 2022 my vehicle started having issues again with the same problem, since Ford told me that the problem was only noisy and not a mechanical issue I delayed taking it to the dealership until it started having more issues with idle, power, etc. It is then that I find out there was actually an extended warranty/ recall for that issue. Ford is denying my claims saying that my problem was fixed in 2020. The parts it was fixed with are faulty, and redesigned parts were released in late 2020 that have a stiffer spring that allows the oil pressure to hold better than the hl3z cam phasers, thus preventing the problem. The new parts the ml3c cam phasers are now what Ford is telling me need to be replaced at a $3000 charge, in addition to the timing chain which has been damaged due to the cam phaser issue. Ford needs a recall on vehicles with the faulty hl3z 6c525 cams not just a VIN recall. This is a known problem for this engine and Ford is doing everything they can to avoid paying for their mistake.

The throttle body failed, causing the vehicle to go into limp mode while on a stretch of interstate hwy. The engine decelerated from 65 to below 5 mph immediately, causing cars and transfer trucks to have to swerve recklessly to avoid hitting me at full speed. My family was in this auto with me, which makes this even worse. From a quick search on the internet, this is a known problem and there hasn't been a recall. Will someone have to eventually die before Ford hales the problem? I now have my Expedition in the shop for repair and I'm on the hook for the cost to repair a known problem! Ford, be a responsible company and value your customer's safety!!.

About 20 times now, while I am on the freeway, sometimes when I am coasting, and other times when I am trying to quickly accelerate, my car down shifts out of nowhere and loses power, again either when I am in the fast lane coasting, or trying to merge into traffic. It's like it is going to stall and when I step on the gas, it just revs and doesn't get into gear and go. I have almost been rear ended because I go from 70 to like 40 mph. When I was trying to merge into traffic, I got partially into the other lane and then it just wouldn't go. I could easily have been hit. One time when I was coasting and it did it, a warning came on, and then a check manual, but it went away too fast. I have taken it to the dealer and a repair shop multiple times and they can't replicate it. It could definitely cause an accident as my car suddenly slows down and it won't accelerate. I have to wait about 10-15 seconds until it reengages. It makes aloud clunking/dropping sound as if I ran over something and one time it sounded like a million pebbles were inside my engine and under my car. No diagnostic numbers are coming up and it's like no one knows what I am talking about. But multiple Fords are having this issue and they are not doing anything about it. I took it in during my warranty and now it's out of warranty and I'm going to have to pay for something that they should have repaired from the get go. This is dangerous.
While driving around 30 miles an hour, the vehicle lost power and all accelerator input did not work. . The tool light came on but the vehicle was unresponsive to any accelerator input. The vehicle came to a stop in the middle of an intersection. Vehicle was turned off then back on. After which the accelerator worked. Took the vehicle to a maintenance shop, no codes were stored and couldn’t duplicate. Very dangerous to have no acceleration while driving.

Car doesn’t let me pump fuel at gas station and overfills even when the tank is empty. Gas leaks from the bottom of the car. Weird suction noise comes from the fuel filler neck. I was doing research and found that many people have this same problem with my car and there’s a recall for this but for the 2015-2016 models and not the 2017. It’s a recall on the evap system suction pump and code is 20y6.
Throttle body and motor assembly failed at only 33,000 miles. Vehicle suddenly lost power and wrench light immediately illuminated on the dash. Vehicle had to be towed to local Ford dealership for repair. This created a very dangerous situation as the vehicle was currently being operated on a congested interstate on-ramp entering the highway with a very narrow shoulder / emergency lane. A vehicle accident & fatality could have easily occurred given this dangerous situation. Unfortunately this throttle body mechanical failure is a very common issue across many Ford vehicle platforms and the NHTSA has done the american consumer a disservice by allowing Ford to continue repairing these vehicles only when the throttle body unit fails. Instead the nhsta should be forcing Ford to pre-emptively recall these vehicles and replace the faulty throttle bodies before more unnecessary fatalities occur.
My spark plugs are going bad, I bought three tires. But now I'm having to take it to the shop because it's weird noises coming from the tire it may be the wheel baring or sway bar link and bushing the mechanic say.

While attempting to accelerate, was not able to. Vehicle lost all power. Had to pull over and turn vehicle off and then back on. Happened twice in about 15 minutes. This is the 3rd time in 2 years this has occurred. Brought into repair facility and the issue is the throttle body.
Vehicle will lose all power and acceleration. Must pull the vehicle over to the side of the road. Turn vehicle back on and it works fine. This happens intermittently but consistently keeps happening. Code from vehicle states electronic throttle body issue.
My expodition has a bad gas smell and skips a little please help me.

I was driving the vehicle and it suddenly lost all engine power. The car was still on and running but slowed down to idle speed and was almost rear ended. I was barely able to get it over to the side street where I turned it off and then back on. And it ran like usual and I drove it back home, I was only a mile away. After further research it seems this is a known issue with the throttle body on these vehicles.
Water/condensation build-up in charge air cooler collects in tubing and discharges into intake when quickly accelerating from a stopped position or “punching it” to pass a slower vehicle in traffic. This causes my vehicle to go into limp mode and lose all power which can be extremely dangerous in high traffic conditions.
This is the 2nd time it happened to my 2003 Ford Expedition. While driving heard a loud popping noise, followed by continuous popping loud popping noise like a broken exhaust muffler, sounded like a motorcycle. After investigating, found out that the #3 spark plug popped out (ejected) of the head cylinder, broke the spark ignition coil. When this happened, I smelled fuel, and saw smoke coming from under the hood, so I did not drive the car and towed the car home. I had to replace the ignition coil and spark plug and reinstalled the spark plug but it seemed to be still loose, so I took it out and put thread lock and reinstalled it but did not tighten it to the max and did not start the car till after 24 hours so the thread lock will hold it in place. Yesterday the same thing happened to #8 spark plug, it also broke the coil, and when I tried to install the new spark plug, found out that the threads on the head cylinder will not grab the spark plug, and now I am stuck without a car. When I asked around, people said this is a common problem on the Ford expedtion. This is dangerous and could kill someone if the engine caught on fire, because I smelled gas and smoke. If this is a common dangerous problem on the Ford expedtion, how come there is no recall for it???? are we waiting for someone to die due to engine / vehicle fire to do something about it? please look into this issue ASAP and let Ford fix this dangerous problem. Spark plugs ejecting out like this? I noticed that there are only 4 threads on the head cylinder holding the park plug, but the spark plug has 10 or 11 threads and ofcourse only 4 of those threads are being held by the head cylinder. This is a dangerous problem waiting to hurt or kill someone, please ask Ford to fix this big problem, thank you. . . .

When filling the gas tank, even at the slowest setting on the gas pump, when the pump clicks to indicate the tank is full, 5 seconds later the tank burps fuel everywhere and the tank is only 3/4 full. The fumes are a safety risk to people, the fuel on the ground is bad for the environment, and there have been instances when I have been sprayed with fuel. I took the vehicle to my local mechanic and they were not able to find anything wrong. I took the vehicle to the local Ford dealership and they indicated everything was working properly. I took the vehicle back to Ford again and I was told the only other possible thing to do would be to replace the fuel tank, but the fuel tank is not produced anymore and is obsolete. There are no warning indicators to this problem with the vehicle.

75k miles, 2016 Expedition known throttle body issue. Engaging the "limp mode" happened several times before we could get it into the dealership. Each time was at different speeds and conditions. (** who by the way told us to just keep driving it until our dealership appointment arrived approx. 2 weeks later) not thrilled about this issue. We purchased the vehicle as a family hauler and a road tripper. Do not like the idea of having my kids in the car and the potential of this happening in a dangerous area. Ford dealer replaced the unit 10/8/21 we will see if the replacement will be a permanent fix for the vehicle. It does seem like Ford is dragging their feet on this and not issuing a recall.
While driving through a busy intersection, the vehicle seemed as if it had shifted into neutral rendering the accelerator powerless. I was able to coast into a parking lot and noticed the wrench warning light being on. The engine was also shaking very noticeably. I turned off the engine and read up on the warning light to learn it indicated a powertrain failure. Called a mechanic who stated it could be the throttle body and/or throttle body actuator. It was suggested the engine should be turned off (already done) and restarted. I did as instructed and the engine began running smoothly again. Wrench warning light was no longer on. Without having control of the powertrain, this situation could have caused an accident as I had no ability to control the vehicle's power and could not navigate through the intersection in a safe manner. I feel like my safety and others was put at risk. I have taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic who is also an auto mechanic instructor at the local high school. I await his diagnostic result. There were no earlier symptoms or wrench warning light previous to this incident.

Car stops accelerating at various speeds on numerous occasions, and cannot get vehicle to propel. No propulsion occurs. Must bring vehicle to complete stop, turn off, and turn back before it will accelerate. Large wrench appears on screen, but disappears after the car is restarted. Safety issue because you cannot maintain speed or accelerate, was almost rear-ended and created potential accident trying to pull vehicle over. Took two visits to the authorized dealer to diagnose the problem as their was no "code" apparent to dealer, and was almost rear ended in between those visits. Vehicle owner quickly googled problem and noticed that n. Carolina consumers council had successfully petitioned NHTSA for this issue on other Fords, but that recall appears not to have included these Expeditions. Dealer replaced the throttle body.
The fuel filler assembly on our 2018 Ford Expedition broke while filling the vehicle with fuel, causing the entire fuel filler assembly to pop out of the side of the vehicle. The parts appear to be made of weak plastic and/or may be caused by poor design execution. The concern is that this defect could cause fuel to leak out of the assembly and/or the broken parts may render the vehicle unable to be filled with fuel and leave the driver stranded. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who confirmed the issue and ordered replacement parts.
6 months ago, electronic power steering failed (control module?). Today. Electric throttle body - code p2111. Driving down the road and lost acceleration (the “limp” condition). Engine is running but no reaction to the gas pedal. Wrench symbol on the dash. I coasted to a spot where I could get out of traffic. Restarted the vehicle and the error went away. When I made it home, I removed the throttle body. Butterfly was a little dirty but much cleaner than the ones shown on youtube. Opened the gear box and it was clean too. However, several teeth on the plastic gears were worn and/or disfigured. It also seemed like the little electric motor would not let the butterfly shut all the way.
I was driving the SUV and all of a sudden the engine seemed to shake, the rpm's went up and the car would not accelerate. This was on a busy road and thank god I was able to pull over safety. The SUV was not able to move and was towed to the Ford dealer. I was told the throttle body physically looked good but the electronic in it was dysfunctional and it would need to be replaced. The cost was 755. 93. This is 2017 Ford Expedition. Crazy and unsafe, what interesting was the service tech asked if I cleared the code p2112 from the obc. I said no I don't know how to do this. He told me then the car cleared the code so maybe that why it can happen over and over again. The was a history of p2112 but no active code. Interesting - safety problem.
I was driving to a scheduled appointment with our local Ford dealership for another issue which needed correcting when all of a sudden the vehicle would not accelerate. The cars engine was still running but no acceleration. I managed to get off the road, without being hit, and continued to the dealership. I let them know what had happened but they blamed the incident on a bad battery and I thought the issue was fixed. This is where the issue becomes catastrophic in my opinion. On November 1, 2020 my wife and two friends were in the vehicle and heading out of town. We live in a mountainous part of arizona. Fortunately we were on a fairly level stretch and in the right lane. The vehicle's accelerator again failed to function. We pulled off the road to the shoulder. Turned off the engine, restarted the car and turned around and went back home, about a 120 mile detour. We called the dealership to have them do a diagnostic. They determined it to be a failed throttle body sensor. This incident could have turned out much worse. Had we been passing a truck, caught in the left lane and on a steep grade with no acceleration, who knows the outcome. I contacted Ford for them to reimburse me for the cost of the throttle body repair/replacement. They did cover that cost, but I also asked them to give me an assurance the replacement part would not do the same failure after so many miles. By the way our vehicle only had 55k miles when this happened. I have since learned from the dealership that this failure (bad sensor) occurs with frequency in similar vehicles. If the failure occurred in the scenario I mentioned above, who would know it was the throttle body sensor that failed, rather than a driver error. It is a failure that could be catastrophic, and probably has been without consequences. I asked Ford why this wasn't a recall action, no response. Where is the NHTSA?.
While driving the 2017 Expedition el on a local street, the engine suffered an extreme reduction in power and limited speed to only 5 mph. After taking the vehicle into the dealer, it was determined the it was a failure of the throttle body.
Started vehicle 2017 Ford Expedition el limited in morning 9/19/20 idle very heavy engine shook violently no throttle at all placed gas pedal to floor nothing. Ran diagnostics came back as p2112 throttle actuator control stuck closed. Unplugged wiring erased code. And worked fine. I drove it 4 miles throttle stuck closed while driving through busy intersection. Pulled off to side. Unplugged sensor again and car limped back home top speed 40mph. No warning signs previous to this and my warranty just expired 2,000 miles ago. Vehicle has 102,000 miles on it. This is a manufacturer's defect and could have ended very badly. Vehicle dash now has check engine light with a wrench also.
When driving at different speeds the throttle body randomly and immediately closes to idle without warning. This happened 4 times before it was replaced. It has been fine since.
Car in motion, hesitates and sometime goes to low power mode where you have to pull over, turn car off wait and restart to be able to continue this has happened 3 times in 2 years, dealership decodes and replace the throttle body, charging each time to fix the issue.
My vehicle year, make, and model has multiple manufacturer recalls pertaining to my specific vehicles VIN number. I have 0 unrepaired recalls that have not been assessed and has had zero components replaced under recalls for specific components. Each and every recalled components associated with my vehicles year, make, and model pertaining to my vehicles VIN number are a safety risk at fault and any problems create unsafe conditions for operation of vehicle on the road. My assessment of my vehicles safety risk is high due to the 0 unrepaired recalls my vehicle has not been replaced with new components to avoid these safety risks from component failure.

Followed semi into dealer service parking lot. Semi turned left so moved forward to join line of cars into service bay. While coming to stop, semi on left backed up and coming right for me. At my stopping, auto engine shut off turned off engine as was trying to shift to reverse. By time engine turned back on, acknowledged reverse, engaged reverse, responded to accelerator being pushed, gear engaged, the truck was about to hit me as driver did not see me. Luckily driver noticed and slammed on brakes. By this time, vehicle was still trying to move so if truck did not stop, I would have been hit. Auto stop of engine is a dangerous feature. While may work at a traffic light, in a situation requiring quick response, too many steps to turn vehicle on and engage a change of direction. Ford has a feature to turn off manually, but should be allowed to turn off all the time. If vehicle shuts down in emergency situation as this, a person could be killed. This event was viewed by several people and all I could say was could not move as vehicle did not respond quickly enough. Emissions are not more important to people's lives and this feature needs to be removed or allowed to be overridden.

Vehicle engine shuts down whlie driveing at any given time, gear and speeds. All electrical parts remains working. Stop and restart the car and it's working again for a few minutes and the engine shuts down again. While in motion. However it seams to happen when you accelerate, and if you keep a constant rpm the car lasts longer before the engine shuts down. No engine check light came on at first only after few shutdown. When checking the error code its p2112.
While getting on interstate my 2017 Expedition el 4x4 was shifting and coming up to highway speed , when it seemed to run rough and felt like it missed a shift. I let off gas pedal, engine roughness temporarily went away. Now I'm getting closer to getting on highway , applied gas again and engine got rough running again and tool symbol appeared on dash . I lost all acceleration and power to wheels while trying to enter an interstate. Very dangerous and life threatening if I did not have a long shoulder to pull off on. Pulled over stopped engine. Let sit for 5 or so mins. Started up and tool symbol was gone. Got on highway up to speed this time then same thing happened again. Rough running , lost all power to wheels, tool symbol appeared again but got the check engine light this time. Luckily I was passing an exit and had time to get off interstate 77 before I got run over from behind. Stopped n restarted. Got truck to my mechanic and they pulled a throttle body code on the truck. I had them reset code to see if it happens again because I have an ally extended warranty which we'll see how using that goes. I am driving truck with less issues trying to get code to appear again to take to dealer for a fix. Have gotten the tool light to come on 2x but no check engine yet.
P2112 error keeps coming up causing sudden lose of power in the vehicle. This has happened while driving on the freeway, causing a panic moment to get to the shoulder, and on city and rural roads. We have to pull over shut the vehicle down and then restart it so that we can continue driving.
The gas gauge never works and sometimes the vehicle thinks that it doesnt have gas when it does.

While driving on a city parkway going around 35-40mph. My Expedition suddenly started shuddering and decelerating. The wrench light came on. I pulled over to the side of the road. I looked up in the owner's manual what that meant. It said to contact an authorized repair center. I went to the local Ford dealership. They ran the diagnostic and said it was the throttle body. They also stated it is a known problem with the eco-boost engines. This is a known problem with this engine and needs to be recalled before the loss of power and control happens on a busy highway and someone is injured or killed.
My car has been over heating and having problems since I first bought it. I could not understand why I have to continue to keep fixing it after I just bought it. Someone told me to check if it had a recall and sure enough it does! I checked on the dmv website today.
