38 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 08/05/2013

Backing out of my driveway, the truck died and would not restart. I had it towed to my mechanic and was told the fuel pump was bad. When he removed the pump from the gas tank, my mechanic noticed the electrical wires had burned up. He stated that he was surprised it didn't start a fire or explode. I cannot find another fuel pump anywhere. Ford says they don't know when any will be available, maybe November. I am stuck making payments and keeping insurance on a vehicle that may never run again.

39 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2008 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 07/23/2013

While driving my Expedition el on the highway and rounding a curve at 65 mph, the engine died without any warning. Fortunately, I was able to put the transmission into neutral and coast to a stop in a safe location. The engine would not start for several minutes, but then started and ran normally. I drove it straight to the dealer and dropped it off. The dealer diagnosed it as a fuel pump failure, and informed me that the part was on backorder and they could not guarantee a delivery date. I have been without my car for 5 weeks, and have spoken with the service manager and Ford customer service reps on several occasions. After first offering to help with car rental expenses, I have now been told that they will not assist me with rental expenses. They also have not been able to advise a date when the part will be available so I can get my car back. My $40,000 car is now worth nothing, I can't even sell it. From what I have been able to find out, this is a common failure with this fuel pump design. I would like Ford to order a recall, pay for the repairs, and cover my car rental expenses until they can repair my car.

40 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 07/21/2013

Truck turned on fine in the morning. I went to run an errand came back and gauge said 50 miles to empty and figured I would gas up later. We were about to go to dinner and the truck wouldn't turn on. Mechanic has said it is the fuel pump. For a week we can not locate a fuel pump. We contacted Ford corporate and all they can say is "go pay $401 for a new one and then we can see what we can do to expedite". Yet dealer says they have a back order and do not know if its going to be late August or early September before part is even available. Now we are sitting and paying for a vehicle we can not drive! like spark plugs were a big enough problem!.

41 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 07/17/2013

While driving my 2007 Ford Expedition el limited home from a dentist appointment with my four children, my SUV suddenly stopped with no warning. I tried several times to restart vehicle with no success, it just wouldn't turn over. I had SUV towed to a local repair shop to determine what the problem was. I was told the fuel pump was shorted and had electrically burned inside my fuel tank. This really worried me since fire and gas do not mix very well! all I could think is if 28 gallons of fuel were to ignite, it would seem to me that this is serious issue. Tried to get my SUV repaired and was told part was on back order till September or October. This tells me that there must be a serious issue with this part. This is my only vehicle at that. Read multiple stories of consumers with issues all most exactly like mine. I am a concerned consumer and parent, and do not want something unfortunate to happen do to a faulty part.

42 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2003 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

Was driving the 2003 Expedition on interstate 10 near pensacola, when the vehicle shut off. The car coasted to a stop, luckily I did not cause a wreck and my family and I was safe. It has happened several times, at least 10 so far. We have replaced the fuel pump, fuel pump relay switch, the fuel filter, had the injectors inspected and it still does it. I did some research into the problem and it turns out the right side front passenger window leaks down onto the interior fuse panel and is causing the electrical system to short out. In all cases once the vehicle cools down, the car starts right back up again. I have taken it to 4 garages and now I have it at the Ford dealership in pensacola. Where they are looking at it. It turns out that the p0231 code keeps re-appearing in the system (fuel pump relay circuitry) which shows the problem could be the fuse panel since the fuses are soldered to the board and not plugged in. Hopefully Ford recognizes this problem and will order a recall soon.

43 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

The fuel pump burned up. We have been waiting for almost a month now for a replacement. The word on the internet is that Ford is not even manufacutring the part now because there is a problem with it.

44 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/29/2013

Our family drove our Expedition el to hilton head island, SC. After stopping to rent some bikes we went to start our vehicle and it would not start. After having it towed to a local shop we were told that our fuel pump was burned up and that they would order a new pump. The next day they called back to inform us that there are no fuel pump's available for the Expedition el 131" wheel base and they have no idea when they will be available and Ford would not give them any information. We contacted Ford and they would not help us unless we transferred the vehicle to a Ford dealership. We did that and the Ford dealership told us the exact same thing. After trying all week to find a fuel pump or try to use the shorter version there was no way to find one. We ended up having to rent a car and drive it back 1000 miles to michigan. When we got back to michigan and contacted Ford they once again said it is not their fault, the car is not under warrantly and sorry for the inconvenience but they owe us nothing and they can't help us. When I asked when there would be fuel pumps available they never responded. I located a used fuel pump in canada and shipped it to the Ford dealership. I then flew back to hilton head and drove it back. The first time we stopped the car to get something to eat the car would not start. I finally got it started and never shut the car off again from SC to michigan - even while pumping gas and never let the tank get beow 1/2 a tank. The car now jerks and the fuel pump is about to go again. Every time I get in the car I am afraid it is just going to stop working and I will get in an accident. So far it has cost us over $2000. 00 to just get the car back home after all the extra costs and Ford will not tell us anything or when any will be available. They furthermore said they work closely with NHTSA and there are no issues with this part.

45 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2005 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/15/2013

The contact owns a 2007 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was advised that the fuel pump had failed. The contact was informed by the dealer that the repair would take three months because the fuel pump was on back order and there was no after market fuel pump that would work on the 2005 model year. The failure and the current mileages were 74,000.

46 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/14/2013

This is my wifes vehicle and she was taking my kids and a few from the neghborhood as well as my disabled father to sonic to get some icecream. I was away for a baseball tournament with my 9 yr old and received a call that the car would not start. I had to leave and miss my sons game to make sure my wife was ok. Well after trying everything I could and still could not get it started I had it towed to a garage. They dropped the tank and found that the connectors on the pump were melted and stated this could have caused a fire. Now I was told by a Ford dealer that the were remaking the pumps as they knew of this issue. So if you know of this issue and dont advise the public I feel they are liable for any damage or claims that this issue may cause. The worst part is when I tried to get a new fuel pump for this I was told they were on back order and would not be available unitl Aug 5 2013. So that is 2 months without a second car, and makes it very hard to make it to work ontime. Ford then stated that I dose not show that I ordered a part and they could not help unless I ordered the part and then they would see about the problem. Now a recall should be looked into for this as melted wires in a secured gasoline tank. That sounds more like and ied waiting to happen. I would appreciate you looking into this. Jim taylor.

47 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/08/2013

I was driving my 2007 Ford Expedition el on the highway and it started sputtering. As I started to change lanes to exit the freeway I lost all power. Luckily right at the end of the freeway exit ramp was a shopping plaza. I coasted into the plaza then my husband, 3 kids and 2 strangers pushed me safely into a parking lot. I had the car towed to my local Ford dealer on 6-10-13. The diagnosis was I needed a new fuel pump. After several days of telling me it was coming. The dealership confessed that the part was on national back order and expected delivery was some time after August 4th 2013. My warranty will only cover 8 days of a rental. My local dealer will not give me a car nor with Ford corporate. My dealer also mentioned that other model Fords have fuel pumps on backorder like the taurus and explorer. I am wondering if this is design flaw in general with the Ford fuel pumps and they are trying to keep it from going to a recall. One post I saw the guy said his dealer told him there were 1286. 00 Expedition el fuel pumps on back order. This is not right. I will be without a car for 56 days. Of those 56 I can only get a car for 8. What am I supposed to do? Ford needs to fix this for free as well as give everyone a rental until their car is fixed.

48 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2004 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/03/2013

The first incident with my Ford while driving at about 25mph the spark plug was blown out. Ihad the spark plug issue repaired. My second issue with my Ford now is that it shuts off while driving at speed. It has happen 4 times now. I have read some blogs that state it might be the bad placement of fuel pump driver module or fuel pump relay. This may cause a crash. Please research!!!!.

49 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 05/31/2013

The contact owns a 2007 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the engine stalled with the illumination of the warning indicator. The engine failed to restart and the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer. The technician stated that the failure was contributed to a faulty fuel pump. A repair was not performed due to the part being on a massive back order. The expected date for the part was August of 2013. The manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 86,500.

50 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 05/02/2013

Ok, here is the story. A week ago the fuel pump went out on my wife's car. After just one google search I found out that this was an ongoing problem and that many people had had this happen with the pump. Most people were finding that one of the leads going to the fuel pump was getting hot and melting. . . Melting inside the fuel tank!!! sound like a problem? so I have it towed to the local shop to have it repaired. One day later the guy from the shop calls me and say's hey man we got a problem, the fuel pump is currently not avaliable for your car, and that he had called Ford and they had informed him that they found a problem with the pump and pullled it out of production until 7-22-13 but would not be avaliable until 9-13. He said that he had scoured the web and found out that this was a problem showing up just now because the cars with the faulty fuel pump were now getting some miles on them. I called the big Ford office and they basically told me tough luck. So a company that big has recognized that there is a problem with the fuel pump, pulled it out of production, have not issued a recall, and telling me tough luck! I need help, this is the only family car we have and we have 5 kids. This is beyond bad business and imo not acceptable. Any help would be much appreciated. I also have pictures of the unit if anybody would like to see them just shoot me a email @ joelneal1209@gmail. Com.

51 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 05/02/2013

Two weeks ago I was driving down the highway at 55 mph. All of a sudden the car just shut off. I had to coast to the side of the road. It was very hard to steer. Had to have car towed since it wouldn't start. Come to find out the fuel pump had melted. There is no fuel pump to be found! we have tried all the dearlships in the area and even contacted Ford. They don't care that the truck is down and that we were told it would be August before a part would be available. I drive a big truck for a big family.

52 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 03/08/2013

I started the vehicle and moved it from the back yard to front and left vehicle running while I loaded some items into it. While loading the vehicle shut off automatically. I attempted to start vehicle several time before finally having it towed. Mechanic advised fuel pump inside my tank was melted. Repair cost of $500. After seeing several of these complaints this should be a recall for safety issues how can an electrical problem become hot enough in a tank of gas to melt????? VIN 1fmfu15507la49325.

53 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2005 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

While I was driving done the interstate, my Ford Expedition lost all power and completely stalled. Luckily, I was able to get it off the road to the shoulder without any incident. This is the third time it has happened to me. Previously, I had my fuel pump sensor changed because my check engine light came on and that is what it indicated; however, the problem still exits and my mechanics are baffled. Very dangerous!.

54 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2005 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 12/29/2012

While traveling down the freeway at 70 mph, the vehicle died. It would not restart. After 1 hour vehicle the vehicle started and then died within seconds. The fuel filter and fuel pump were replaced because all indications lead to believe that the fuel pump was bad. After replacement of the fuel pump, vehicle would not start. Looking on the internet for possible solutions from others, I found one person with the same problem and followed their advise on how to fix it. I found the "drivers module" on the back topside of the frame. When the module was removed, it was found to have two large sections of corrosion about 1/4 inch thick. When the chunks were knocked off, under them were two holes through the side of the module and the circuit was burnt, the plug was also starting to corrode. The placement for the module is a terrible spot. It is aluminum attached to a steel frame, with nothing separating them. When the new module arrived, it now has a rubber gasket to keep them separate. This looks like a design flaw on Ford's part and a recall should be ordered. Ford should further refund the cost of the fuel pump because all indications show that the fuel pump is bad, when in truth it is the module and not the fuel pump.

55 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2001 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 08/01/2012

Vehicle was havin jerkin issues and check engine light was on, took to shop and it was about to blow out the spark plug, I was lucky and caught it and got it replaced but I have done research and seen that many others haven't been and that this is an ongoing issue. My next problem was acceleration, the gas pedal accelerated and cause me to crash into another vehicle and the vehicle fled the scene, there was no major injuries but 4 kids were in the vehicle and are now scared to even ride with me. Mental stress is a major injury in my concern cause it hurts my heart to know my own children are scared that I wont protect them. My third problem is that just yesterday we parked on the side of the side of the road and the vehicle died and wont start, talked to mechanics and they say 01 Fords have this problem, we now have a broke down vehicle and not too sure what the defect has caused more problems to be worse. Due to the defect now the starter solenoid is out and we are unsure if possibly even the fuel pump. Ford knows of all these complaints from other owners and has done nothing. Just in my family I have 2 others that have the same vehicle and have had the same problems, why is it that Ford is not doing anything about these defects that can cause major accidents and injuries???.

56 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/05/2012

I went to pick my son up from drivers ed and we were leaving the parking lot and the vehicle died. I waited a little and then restarted it and it started but it was rough. I then continued to drive my way back home and it was driving rough and no lights came on indicating I had a problem. I was driving down the road and it died again so I had to just let it coast to get off the street. Luckily I was able to coast into delon and son's second driveway (repair shop). I waited for them to come help and when the repair man came out he was able to start it and told me he was going to run some test on it to see what would have caused it. After 2hrs he came and said that it indicated it was the fuel pump, but that it showed it fixed itself so he wanted to test drive it before I would go home. . . . . . Well not even two minutes after he left his coworker came in and said that he just broke down in my vehicle. So he bumped under the tank and it started back up. So this to him indicated that it was for sure the fuel pump. I left it for them to fix it and when it was done he called me and told me that. . . . . I was very lucky that it didn't explode because the wires were melted on the fuel pump and he himself said that he was lucky since he test drove it as well. I doubt Ford would pay for this fuel pump failure it seems to be a common problem when you look on-line. My total bill for this was $790. 00 ouch :( considering we are in the process of adopting a child.

57 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 02/13/2012

Gas burps out of filler tube upon fueling. You must always hold fuel pump handle and manually pump fuel and listen for gas to be almost full to stop. Otherwise gas will spew out down side of vehicle and persons pumping gas. This happens on almost every fill up across all gas stations in central FL.

58 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2005 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 04/20/2011

The reported model was cruising at 65 miles an hour along north bound I-795 @ nc rte 42, wilson, nc (state police responded to this disabled vehicle call) vehicle acted like it ran out of gas. Electrical proveout indicators were normal. Ignition system was functional, as were all other facets of the electrical system seemed fine during the engine power failure, however , loss of steering power and braking power was evident and prominent. After safely coasting off onto the shoulder just past the said intersection the vehicle would not start and was towed to a repair facility. A final diagnosis was performed and was determined of a relay contact failure. This relay is an integral part of the main power distribution panel / fuse block right of the passenger foot well. Making this part integral to the power block makes it extremely expensive to repair and makes the vehicle unsafe as far as a reasonable repair to a critical system and places other systems at risk by the nature of replacing the entire power block to repair the problem. . The fuel pump. When this relay contact fails, power is lost to the fuel pump driver module located under the driver's rear wheel well. This module supply power to the fuel pump motor in the fuel tank. The fuel pump control module itself should be scrutinized hence it's location makes it vulnerable to weather and quick corrosion.

59 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2004 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 02/13/2011

2004 Ford Expedition shuts down randomly on highway at speeds of 50- 70 mph. First time Feb 2011, numerous times since. Have managed to get to shoulder of highway each time. No lights come on the dash until the key is turned off. Each time the key can be turned back on and the vehicle starts. It may then run 1 or two miles and shut down again or it may go a week or more before shutting down. Last week it shut down 4 times in 12 miles. On the return trip, it did not shut down at all. The vehicle has been in the shop off and on for 6 weeks, they can find no problem, there are no diagnostic codes. We at first thought it was a fuel pump problem, but fuel pump pressure is perfect. I now think it may be the fail-safe that is shutting the engine down. This is very dangerous when the car shuts down on the interstate hwys in houston. I am now afraid to drive the car. Ford motor CO should fix this problem, their dealer shops don't have a clue about what to do because the problem does not show up on their equipment. Help!.

60 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2000 Ford Expedition
