Differential Unit problems of the 1996 Ford Explorer

I know leaking oil from vent tube is a larger problem because Ford has had to have a retro kit made to solve leaking oil. I received no help from Ford for repair cost.

2 Differential Unit problem

Failure Date: 01/07/1999

Phil caldwell from the auto service department stated that Ford put out a technical bulletin on the front differential (leak) problem. To prevent future leaks, the cover needed to be replaced. Ford had identified a problem, but failed to recall. It was a design flaw. As a consumer, I had to pay the repairs.

3 Differential Unit problem

Front differential leaks oil.

4 Differential Unit problem

Failure Date: 05/01/1997

Drive train differential unit failure.

5 Differential Unit problem

Failure Date: 07/01/1996

Oil is leaking out of front differential vent tube, also increased vibration felt in steering column along with clunking noises when going over bumps or turning.

6 Differential Unit problem

Failure Date: 06/07/1996

Defective front differential cover plate, causing oil leak.

Failure Date: 03/28/1996

The front differential leaks oil and sprays it on the engine.
