Air Bag Light On problems of the 1998 Ford Explorer

Four problems related to air bag light on have been reported for the 1998 Ford Explorer. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2000

Two years ago vehicle was involved in frontal collision while driving a little over 25 mph. Estimated damage was between $3500-$4000. Owner was concerned because dealership was not able to detect the cause, presently air bag light comes on and off, and owner is very concerned. . There were 2 injuries.

2 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 01/04/1999

Air bag light came on without a reason, but dealer had told consumer tha tthe air bag sometimes is opening, and causing the air bag light to come on.

3 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/01/1998

While driving the airbag light comes on intermittently. Dealer has taken the vehicle in several times to try and remedy the problem. Please provide any futher information.

4 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 04/15/1998

Ongoing/recurring/intermittent problem with air bag sensor light coming on. Vehicle has been inspected/ repaired on eight occasions, and problem still occurs. Consumer is concerned about safety condition when air bag light comes on. Can NHTSA provide additional information or help in this matter.
