Three problems related to automatic transmission control module have been reported for the 1999 Ford Explorer. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Vehicle has major vibration throughout body when it is idling. Rpms fluctuate up and down between 1600 and 2300. Dealer added an extra bracket to exhaust system to help stop vibration. Vehicle would only rev hard when it was first started up. Vehicle was not included in recall 00v395000/ manufacturer's recall 00546, but it was upgraded accordingly to help correct the problem before it got worse.
The consumer does not want recall 00v-395 performed which would reprogram the pcm only to allow the vehicle to go 74. 6 miles per hour as to not cause tire failure, the consumer is unhappy with this recall and thinks it will be a nuisance in passing situations, Ford stated this was a mandatory repair and that it would be performed without the consumers approval in the event that the vehicle is taken to the dealer for service. While driving the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken tot he dealer where they reprogrammed the pcm and replaced the iac valve. The consumer paid for the repairs out of pocket because the warranty expired and the vehicle was not par of recall 00v395. The consumer could not be reimbursed for the repairs.
