Transmission Gear Slipping problems of the 1999 Ford Explorer

Transmission started slipping. Neutral is actually reverse over drive is neutral 2nd is od 1st is 2nd past 1st is 1st gear. When I move power lamp to off my headlights turn off. All of this haopened when I turned my vehicle on or when I was driving.

3 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Transmission failure 1999 Ford Explorer 1. Transmission started slipping, after a transmission flush at the valvoline oil change company. Mileage on vehicle approx 75000 miles when service was completed. 2. Catastrophic failure of transmission, resulting in complete transmission rebuild at cost of $3000. 00.

4 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

The transmission in my 1999 Ford Explorer xls failed completely while driving. The transmission had been slipping intermittently for a couple of weeks when shifting from first into second gear. I took it to the dealer for service and repair. The dealer flushed the transmission and said to drive it for a couple of days. The flushing did not work and three days later the transmission failed. This is the second time the transmission has failed in this vehicle. The first transmission was replaced under warranty but the dealership will not pay for the replacement of this transmission because it is over the mileage limit of the warranty by 4000 miles.

6 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 08/31/1999

Diagnosed as transmission slip; at 15 mph, slips into neutral then back into drive; re-design of valve box due to bracket failure, vehicle is now waiting at dealer for newly designed part.

7 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 06/17/1999

Transmission was slipping, felt like it was in neutral. When it changed over there would be a real bad jerk. Consumer contacted dealer . Dealer said it would take 60 days to get a new transmission.

8 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 04/27/1999

5 speed automatic transmission slips when moving from standstill, shifting to 2nd gear. Problem was fixed 1st time and has reoccurred 4 months later. Local dealer fixed both times, replacing same part both times. 2nd time, factory recommended overhaul of transmission, done by dealer. Problem appears to surface in 4 month intervals. Now have approx. 800 miles on latest fix.

9 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

The valve train in the transmission is defective, causing the transmission to slip when changing from 1st to 2nd gear. Dealer has inspected vehicle, and manufcturer has been notified.
