The contact owns a 2000 Ford Explorer. While in the house, the contact heard a loud sound coming from outside. She exited the house and noticed that the rear window was shattered on her vehicle. She discovered numerous complaints online pertaining to the rear window failure, but there were no recalls. The contact feels that this is a major defect. She initially thought that someone shot the glass with a gun. The VIN was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 186,000.
The rear window shattered spontaneously while the car was parked in a locked garage.
As I was closing the back door window of my 2000 Ford Explorer the window exploded spreading shattered glass into the vehicle, over and under the vehicle, over and under my second car parked next to it, on me, the driveway and throughout the garage. We have found glass particles as far as 25-30 ft from the vehicle. We are shocked and stunned that something like this could happen and don't think Ford realizes the seriousness of this incident. This isn't a warranty issue !! it's a safety issue. I could have been blinded and if this had happened in a crowded parking lot it would have resulted in injuries to others as well.
I was driving down the highway when my rear window in my 2000 Ford Explorer shattered. Nothing hit the window from the inside or outside. This was extremely frightening, as it made a loud popping sound when the window shattered. Pieces of glass were all over the highway. The dealership and the Ford customer assistance number claimed no liability for the incident.
I proceeded into a no-touch car wash on 16 Mar 02, temp. Was approx. 36 degress above zero, when the first coat of soap hit the rear window, the whole window imploded inside of my Explorer. The car wash did not hit the vehicle just the soap . Ero.
The Ford Explorer was parked in our driveway at the time of the incident. The rear window was open and we were standing behind the vehicle when without warning the window exploded throwing glass fragments over 10 feet in all directions. The entire back window broke into pieces no larger than 1/4 inch in size. There were no previous mars or cracks in the back window and nothing hit the window before it broke. My biggest concern is that if the window had broken while we were driving on the freeway, our animals that are contained in the back of the vehicle could have been hurt by flying glass not to mention possibly jumping out of the vehicle.
While consumer was driving at about 60mph back windshield shatterd without any warning. Contacted dealer, and the dealer was not willing to do anything.
I was driving south on i95 through bucks county PA and the rear window shattered and blew out. The price listed in damages was the list price for a new window. I was that there was a report on the news about windows blowing out but have not confirmed the information.
