While driving home from work, attempted to pass a slower moving car. As I did so the gas pedal stuck to the floor. Causing me to brake to slow vehicle. . Finally able to free gas pedal by lifting it up with my foot. . . Major safety issue. . Ford said no recall.
At a stop, began accelerating to enter highway, accelerator pedal became stuck and car continued to accelerate up to 90 mph at full throttle before I shut vehicle off and put it in neutral. Has happened on several occasions, all exactly the same. Vehicle accelerates at full throttle and has to be shut off before an accident occurs. Only way to correct problem is to exit vehicle and push gas pedal several times; start vehicle and see if engine is still at full throttle.
Prior to the incident, I noticed that the accelerator pedal seemed somewhat loose. We were on the freeway in the l. A. Area when I needed to accelerate quickly. As I did this the accelerator stuck and the vehicle surged. I was barely able to avoid rear ending a semi and avoid other vehicle on the congested freeway. The front seat occupant was able to lean under the dash and free the pedal. We pulled over and found our way to a mechanic. He advised that a small plastic piece had broken near the pedal. A bar that is attached to the system then stuck under the dash. He repaired this by bypassing the manufacturers system for less than $200. 00. I took it to the Ford dealer and they told me it would cost over $800. 00 for labor and parts. I don't really want to repair it with the same parts if it could possibly recur.
While starting to move forward, the accelerator stuck twice in the last month. Once I nearly went through a closed garage door. Until now I thought someting got in the way of the accelerator. Heard that this was an equipment problem. Now I will seek to have the defect repaired.
2002 Ford Explorer accelerator became stuck open. The consumer stated the vehicle went out of control. The consumer was able to place the vehicle in neutral to turn off the engine.
I was getting onto i90, floored the accelerator to catch up to speed. The accelerator got stuck in that position, and I couldn't get it to stop. I had both feet on the brake, and my truck was still doing 80 mph. I couldn't get it to stop. I finally put the vehicle into neutral, pulled over to the side, and finally got my vehicle to stop. While I was in the stopped position, my speedometer still was reading 80. Finally it quit on its own. I definitely do not feel safe driving it anymore.
My husband was driving home and the car started accelerating on its own. The gas pedal was stuck and he tried braking and it would not stop. He even tried the emergency brake and it would not stop. It finally popped up and stopped. He was very frightened by the incident. We have two small children and he refused to let them ride in it again. Then next day we traded it in on a new car at a huge loss to us. I now find out that Ford has this problem and refuses to do anything about it. The rug did not catch it was nowhere close to it. They won't do anything until many people die and they get sued. Please investigate this before others are hurt.
While giving acceleration at any speed and no warning accelerator pedal will get stuck, and it will be hard to stop vehicle. Dealer notified.
