1 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2013

I was accelerating onto the freeway when the transmission started lurching several times. It continued to do this until I got home. I took it to a local mechanic and he could not make it do the same thing. It did not do it again for several weeks until I was pulling a trailer. At that time, it would not shift into a lower gear. I stopped and shifted it into park. I then shift it into drive and started driving but it would not shift out of first gear. I again stopped and turned the ignition off and waited several minutes. When I started the engine and began moving, it would shift into the higher gears but not into overdrive. The lurching continued to this day.

2 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2012

Sticks in park, bangs when shifted to reverse or other, slips out of gear when driving then engine will rev as if in neutral, sticks in park when on hill will not shift to drive or reverse ( out of park), when the vehicle looses gear it will rev and I am unable to accelerate and have to pull over to allow other vehicles by until I can get it to engage and go into gear otherwise the car just revs and goes nowhere.

3 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2010

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that the parking gear shift would not shift out of park to drive. The contact stated he would have to continually depress the brake and rattle the gear shift in order for it to move. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where he was advised that the vehicle was not under recall and referred him to the manufacturer. The manufacturer was contacted but provided no additional assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 66,000. Updated 06/02/11.

4 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2009

I have a 2006 Ford Explorer that is jerking when I put it into reverse and also has jumped out of gear a couple of times, thank goodness I was sitting in it and no one got hurt. Taking it in again to the shop tomorrow hope they can find a problem. If anything is done I will keep the old part.

5 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2009

2006 Ford Explorer. Transmission will not stay engaged. Driving along (happens at all speeds) and car slips out of gear (as though it is in neutral). Engine will "rev" when the pedal is pressed but the gear will not re-engage for 30 seconds or so. At highway speeds this is incredibly dangerous! I have coasted off the road, while dodging traffic on approximately 50 occasions. The dealership has attempted to repair it 7 times and has been unsuccessful. Vehicle is unsafe to drive.
