This transmission should be recalled!!!! the reverse band breaks and is a known issue for this transmission!! no warning just went to reverse and nothing! upon research this has been a known issue since day one!!.
The transmissions have a problem and have had a problem for years. They can fail without notice and cause a vehicle to lose momentum while going down the road. Yes this is an older vehicle but if you look up older comments on this vehicle on other reporting sites there are many reports of transmissions causing serious problems. Why has this never been dealt with in any manner? I was driving down the highway and my vehicle began to slow down and would not move forward. I was able to get the vehicle in gear and get it to the shop. I paid to replace the transmission and it did it again in the new transmission. I almost did not make it up the hill near my home and have been forced to park the vehicle as it is not safe to drive.
1. Rear wiper quit working several years ago. Sluggish and now froze up. Hasn't worked for a long time. 2. Replaced radiator several years ago. Replaced thermostat several times over the years. Then. . . 2018, September,-- disappearing coolant from radiator for last 6 months with no obvious leak. Car over heated in August but no obvious leak. Kept refilling. . . 3 days ago bottom thermostat housing sprung a big leak and car overheated major. Replaced thermostat, and full thermostat housing. Internet recommends updating software because of overheating, but is priced at about $110 at all dealerships.
When the car is put in reverse and you give it gas, it shifts really hard and jerks and slips. I think that something is wrong with the transmission. This happened while I was leaving work and put the car into reverse to leave the parking lot.
My Explorer's transmission is starting to exhibit hard shifts that rattle the entire car. I know this is not a new problem as a family member had to replace the transmission in their 2006 Explorer and cyber community is full of examples. This is a major safety issue as the transmission hesitates while excelerating through intersections and shifts hard enough to jolt the entire car while slowing down.
Overdrive has a hard jolt " hard shift" when normal driving. I see this is a big issue with all Ford Explorers, too bad I didn't do some research before buying a Ford.
The automatic transmission is banging into gear. It jolts the vehicle back and forth as it shifts. Tried replacing transmission fluid but continues to do it. Feels like I've been rear-ended at times. Its a consistent occurrence.
Transmission occasionally lurches and makes very hard shifts between gears. Engine races between hard shifts. Have loss of power between shifts which has almost resulted in causing an accident. Lurching seems to occur mostly after driving at 20 to 30 miles per hour for at least 20 minutes.
Driving down the hwy the powertrain malfunction indicator came on. I lost all use of the fuel pedal and brake. Had to get to the side of the hwy with out dying. If I turn the car off and back on the indicator is gone and works just fine. This situation has happened at least 5 times in the last 3 months. Nothing shows up when I plug in a code reader.
I am a military spouse and driving home from ft bragg at 50 miles an hour my truck started costing so I had to pull over and have it towed. I had a Ford do a full diagnosis a month before this and the truck only needed barons. Lafayette Ford fay nc 28306.
While driving car stalls while switching gears eventually jolts/jerks hard, wrench light signaling a powertrain issue appears in display. As I am doing research I realize this is a common transmission issue with Fords. Definitely will not purchase another Ford and will discourage everyone else I know from purchasing. Ford takes no responsibility for this issue in its vehicles. Completely unacceptable for a large company like Ford.
Check engine lite and orange wrench lite which shuts car down no excelration pedal power steering gone and no brake control on freeway coming home. Trans. Will not shift and jumps when wrench lite is on very dangerous this has been going on since April took back to dealer sent to mechanic replaced 2 parts on excelleration module. Still not right.
The contact owns a 2006 Ford Explorer. While driving various speeds, the transmission malfunctioned and the vehicle randomly jerked, slowed down, and unexpectedly surged forward. While at a stop sign, the vehicle suddenly surged forward and struck a pedestrian. There were no injuries and a police report was not filed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the transmission was replaced multiple times, but the failure continued. The manufacturer was notified. The VIN and failure mileage were not available.
I bought this vehicle used 7 years ago from carmax. It has had transmission problem from day 1. It always shifts hard. Today the little wrench light came on as I pulled into my driveway. .
The transmission jumps and engages very hard, it lunges forward also.
Recently my 2006 Ford Explorer XLT was jolting/jerking when I put it into reverse, it did not do it all the time just randomly, and about two days ago I put my Explorer into reverse to leave my driveway and when I was accelerating it would not budge, the engine reved like it was trying to reverse but nothing. It only does it when I'm in reverse though. I've been recently researching this problem and it seems to be a very common problem amongst this year, I've actually seen hundreds of complaints online, Ford should be replacing this and paying for the cost, definitely dangerous and also expensive. Had my vehicle for under a year and have approx. 107k miles and ive had it less than a year and still owe roughly 7k on it.
Ihad the transmisssion replaced twice, first time at 57000 miles and second time 127000 miles. This is the first vechile I owned and had to replace transmission. Was this problem ever address. Thank you ed lingerman 814-528-746912.
I own a 2006 Ford Explorer eddie bauer , bought used in 2011/61000k. Since 2012 the car started showing problems with the power steering and /or engine. When driving at 35-40 mph on a highway the car started to surge forward, then back, keeping surging until the car reached a higher speed of 60. If driving on a hill, it will loose its speed. I took the car to Ford dealer and they couldn't find the problem. The car now is 120000k, still same problem. Very disappointed with Ford that will not take responsibility for the problemas.
Eddie bauer v8 2006 Explorer 107000 miles the abs and srv lights came off. The car was stuck to the ground and would not speed at all. Got a mechanic to check and many different codes showed up. In the past when the same lights came up I took the car to a Ford dealer and they found nothing. They recommended to change the front tires but they couldn't find any problems. For what I know it seems the Ford Explorer has a lot of problems and Ford refuses to do a recall to fix it.
Wow!!!! $2700, thats what my defective transmission is costing me @ only 69k miles. Who wants to start a class action law suit against Ford? I bought a brand new 2006 eddie bauer Explorer in las vegas at friendly Ford. I have had transmission problems from day one. Shifting hard, not engaging and lurching. Took the vehicle to the service department several times only to hear the problem could not be duplicated. Bs, Ford knows there is an issue with this transmission because my sister bought the exact same vehicle in clearwater, florida at countryside Ford three months after me and had the same problem. The service department there duplicated the problem and fixed it. Of course her truck was still under warranty, bet if it wasn't they would have given her the bs excuse also. Or maybe the service manager there was willing to take a cut in his bonus for spending more on customers repairs. Buy american? why? they do not back their product. So people, what are we going to do? sit back and let Ford get away with this. No, it's time for Ford to step up to the plate and take responsibility. If anybody out there knows how to proceed with action, post the information on this site.
Attention!!!!! class action suit started. Contact feldman law group p. A. , mitchell l. Feldman @ 813-639-9366 1715 n. Westshore blvd. Suite 400 tampa florida 33607. Help to get this information out there to all of the consumers who have been victim to this defective, costly and dangerous product put out by Ford.

We bought a 2006 Ford Explorer XLT from a dealer in schenectady NY in 2006. Loved the SUV for the family. Three weeks later we took it back for transmission issues. The transmission would not ingage to reverse sometimes without a delay then a jump. And shifted hard on acceleration. We were told that everything was fine during an inspection. Now here we set with an Explorer with no reverse and needing a 2000. 00 doller repair, which we believe could of been a pre exiting issue. If you look up this model you will see we are not the only ones with this issue.
We have a 2006, six cylinder Explorer. At only approximately 77,000 miles, we have had to replace the radiator (a $2,000 expense), and now the transmission is totally shot and needs to be either "rebuilt" or replaced. Yet another necessary repair for an automobile that has had all its routine maintenance performed, garage kept and gently driven as a family commuter. At nine model years old, we averaging 8,000 miles a year! these sort of system failures are a genuine safety concern and should be investigated for a more widespread problematic occurrences.
In the last 2 years I have continued to have problems with this vehicle which has cost me a lot of time and money. Similarly to the majority of the complaints listed the vehicle jolts and hesitates while in motion. I have been to repair shop more times than I can count. . . . And not even the technicians at Ford seem to know what to do as I continue to have the same issue. On my last visit to the shop ( a week ago) I was told that there was a problem with the computer which works like "the brain of the truck" but they couldn't figure it out so then I was encouraged " to look at "something new(er)". I questioned why I should be doing that when the vehicle has one 93k miles on it. . . . And why would I buy another Ford vehicle when they couldn't fix or figure out what was going on with the one I have!!!!???? based on the number of compalints directly about this same issue ,I am confident that there is a larger problem of which Ford is aware and refuses to address. I am afraid every time I drive as I do not know or have much confidence that it will operate as intended. After calling Ford's customer relations center, I was told that my only option was to take it to the for repair shop even if they did not know and has made it clear that then cannot identify of fix the problem.
The contact owns a 2006 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to accelerate. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The VIN was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 68,000.
Cel light came on, code read 02 sensor which was replaced and cel light off now. Transmission jerking hard into reverse and drive and hangs up between gears, suddenly lunging forward. In stop and start or downtown traffic, with lights every block, it will sometimes lunge forward as I slow down to stop, idles rough, and then has died. It has twice sputtered and tried to stall trying to cross busy intersection. This vehicle is not safe!!!! and should not have to replace transmission at ridiculous cost that apparently does not fix problem as indicated by all Ford forums.
The contact owns a 2006 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that immediately after shifting gears, the vehicle would lunge forward. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician stated the transmission needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 100,000.
This my second Ford Explorer, transmission problems with both. My current Explorer a 2006 will not engage in reverse; I cannot back-up. I purchased an extended Ford warranty as a precaution, for this very problem with the 1st Explorer I purchased. I was told at the dealership, (where I have purchased 5 Ford vehicles in the last 12 years) I was getting a 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. I have seen thousands of complaints about this design flaw, and Ford has declined to recall because they say there are no safety issues. The transmission fluid is sealed, you can't even check it. I am 686 miles over the 100,000 mile warranty and Ford won't do the right thing. Goodbye Ford!! I'm pretty sure the only satisfaction will be from spreading my story along with the thousands of others.
My 2006 Ford Explorer was parked in the driveway. At 4:30 in the morning it rolled backwards out of my driveway and crashed into a fence across the street. The vehicle had been in park and the doors were locked. My neighbors heard the crash, looked out their window and ran outside. A chain link fence and very small concrete wall stopped the vehicle. Luckily there was no one outside or any other cars. There is significant body damage to my Explorer and the left rear wheel is pushed out. How does a vehicle roll across the street while in park? even if the vehicle is out of warranty, shouldn't this be something Ford would be responsible for?.
I was driving down the highway when suddenly the vehicle lunged forward. I thought someone hit me. It did this two more times before I could exit the highway. Then it started being very slow to shift into gear or would not shift at all with out shutting off the vehicle for 3 to 5 mins at a time. Then it would only drive a few blocks before again refusing to shift into gear.
Transmission downshifts hard, goes all the way down to neutral after breaking. Reverse gear dosent catch until 10 seconds after you set it. Trying to accelerate when crossing streets is dangerous the truck dosent pick up.
Engine service light (throttle control) came on along with service indicator (wrench). I stopped at service station and was told (after a diagnostic) that the problem was related to the electronics in the throttle control and that it would need to be replaced .
