As stated in the 2 of the articles in this year make and model range 2013-2018 Ford Explorer. The car has been up to date with maintenance, after a couple thousand miles after the oil changed was. I then took the car to a mechanic shop and was told the water pump and thermostat were failing. I stopped driving the car and decided to take it to a Ford dealer. After visiting palmetto Ford in miami. I was told the car did not have an open recall for this VIN and they did not cover it. It is evident that the problem has been present in many Ford Explorers in this year and has been a safety concern since the car overheats while on the road. I will need to have a recall placed on my VIN number so that I can take this to a Ford dealer and get it resolved ASAP so that I can get back to my normal living as I do not have a transportation and happen to be losing time from work and spending money in rides. . 1fm5k7d86dgc93646 13 recalls listed two of which are the electronic power steering and traction control. I bought this vehicle and less than five days later the power steering goes out. So I'm going to loose my job and I could have lost my life yet Ford is denying there are any recalls and refusing to fix them. I am also a veteran and this is the last bit of bad news I can bare.
Power steering control module causing power steering to stop and loss of control to car. I took to auto shop and had codes reset and happened again with in an hour.
The check charging system light came on and the power steering locked up, once it locks it stays mostly down. I was going around a curb at about 55mph when this happened with my two children. If that is not a safety issue I do not know what is. I could have wrecked and we could have been seriously injured or worse. Now my check brake system light is also on, check engine light, and it has a leak in the driver's side third row seatbelt. Now I know that it's said to have the battery and alternator tested and that has been done. I feel like I wasted a lot of money that I honestly did not have to buy a decent vehicle for me and my kids. This part is not under recall for my vehicle, however I have done my research and there are numerous recalls, investigations, and complaints. I need this issue fixed.
I have been going through multiple sites trying to figure out what is going on with my car. I have only had my vehicle for less than a year and I barely even gotten to drive it. I'm now realizing every recall on the vehicle which there was like 13 has not been repaired. And I also have 4 different numbers for the odometer when I when I bought the vehicle at a 177000 but everything is reading at a 169000. I also purchased the vehicle in June not July like the title says. Also one of the titles said plate's not allowed. When I looked it up I believe this is a fleet vehicle and it does not say that anywhere on my title or in my paperwork. It did come from canada. Is there any way you could possibly help me out with any of this? also I had broken fuses and missing fuses. I had the 4 dealership look at it and a mechanic look at it and they both told me it looked like someone messed around with the wiring in my car.
The electric power steering failed on my vehicle in 2022 while 12 hours from home. Had to drive 12 hours with no power steering. Some year models from the 2013 have been included in the recall but my VIN # was not so I had to pay out of pocket to have mine fixed. It went out again in 2023 and was fixed by a Ford dealer once again out of my pocket. The backup camera will constantly go out and reveal a contact dealer message. I have backed in to a pull behind trailer and edge of me barn before because the camera went out while backing up.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that while it was raining, water was leaking into the vehicle through the front windshield. While making a turn water entered the vehicle, and the front seat passenger became wet. The seat was damaged by the water. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact ordered a power window switch online. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 24v031000 (structure); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
Vehicle will continue to run after key is in off position and removed. Vehicle can be driven with no key in the ignition. Also said starting system fault after battery was disonnected and reconnected.
Vehicle had a faulty pscm along with the power assist steering rack. Car shop recommend I file a complaint because they have seen the same issue in these same exact vehicles.
I started my car after work (this is after a 12 hr sit time) and seen I had a fault on my dashboard, power steering assist and service advance faults. So in short, I do not have power steering, nor do I have my 4wd, and for some reason my turn signal does not work for steady on. The turn signal works for lane changes but not for steady on turning.
Water leaking from headliner onto the radio/cd player causing it to short out. Seats & floor rug gets flooded every time it rains. Is there a recall for water leaking into the car every time it rains. This 2013 Explorer doesn't have a sunroof by the way. It's parked in my driveway on flat surface when leaking when raining. I can't drive when raining because of water dripping on to the dash board right over the radio/cd player.
Rear camera keeps shutting off intermittently during reversing and will not come back on until you take it out of reverse and back this happens both at a stand still and in reverse motion.
My Explorer has been parked for a few days, after opening the passenger side, I noticed that there was a large puddle of water sitting there on the floor linear and on the flooring itself. I checked the moon roof, it was closed, no visible water so that is not possible. I checked the side door and seals, no issues. I noticed that water was from the top part of the passenger side inner footing area coming down so I checked the windshield area. And as assumed, water was creeping in from the windshield area due to bad caulking job/defective engineering causing water (rain/snow, etc) to creep in and soil the electrical area and the flooring.
Water is leaking through the top of vehicle. This is causing electrical issues and shorts. Am afraid car is putting me in a dangerous situation.
When shifting to reverse from park while stationary, the back-up camera does not always activate/come on screen. When such instances occur, after repeated re-shifts, a message displays to take the vehicle to the dealership. I consider this to be a safety issue.
Leaks from poor quality welds above rear tailgate. Creates mold in carpet abs spare tire insulation. Known problem on vehicle. Addition leaks in sunroof due to poor drainage causing motor to fail. Paint bubble fail on hood (known issue on Explorers and expeditions).
I lost communication with the climate controls it says, causing my heat to come on full blast and I can not turn it off. I live in florida and this is very unsafe.
The rear camera intermittently goes black and there is nothing on the screen except an error warning. We have experienced this problem for a couple years however it is becoming more frequent.
I have a check engine light on was told it was the fuel lid. It now chugs and seems like transmission . When it rains water gets in car. Which goes into our electricity system. Our usb doesnt work all the time. My controls for sun roof does not work the screen is stuck open. I am on medicein that I can not be exposed to light. Gas problem started right after oil change.
On 2 separate occasions the truck loses power while driving. This effects the engine, power steering basically anything that uses power. This has happened while driving 65mph and 35-40mph. One time it happened on a street, the other time was while driving on the highway. This is very dangerous.
Lights and passenger door ajar stay on. Lights don't turn off when backing up or until driving forward at a certain speed. Locks unlock by themselves. Lights will randomly turn on when no one is by the car. Have 3 little kids need a car that should be reliable to lock the door to s and stay locked or to safely back up with visibility but can't bc the lights stay on.
Both driver and passenger door lock/latch mechanisms failed showing car door is ajar when door is actually shut. Driver door lock actuator failed around 30,000 miles and passenger lock actuator failed around 135000 miles. When driving at night, the interior lights of car cannot be turned off until speed reaches approximately 10 mph. This leads to unsafe driving conditions and limits driver visibility outside of car due to glare.
It's an intermittent problem. The electric power steering goes on and off. It does so while still or even while driving.
After an all day event, I got into the car, started it as usual, but the power steering would not work. There was a warning on the dash, so I took it to a local mechanic. He hooked it up to the computer, and did a scan, which showed several codes related to power steering issue. I do recall on the drive to the event, my navigation went out, with a warning that sd nav card is not working, and my phone would not connect to the system via the cable. Mechanic reset the code to test it out. This has activated the power steering, radio, and even the back up camera. Yes, back up camera would only work periodically, so I thought it was camera itself. I'm worried power steering will go out during the normal drive. Is there any recall on power steering or electrical issues?.
The power steering fault assist button came on in the SUV. The steering wheel locked up on me while the vehicle was in motion. I was in another city other than where I live. This was by far one the scariest things that has ever happened to me. The wheel completely locked up. This is beyond unsafe for anyone to be steering a vehicle and the steering wheel locks up. The vehicle was towed to the mechanic shop. The steering rack had to be replaced. I was charged for the pet and labor. The total cost was $1,931. 18. There is a recall on the same model vehicle but because my VIN doesn't match I wouldn't qualify for the recall. This is not right! there is a recall on the vehicle for the same issue but not for my VIN. I will upload a copy of my receipt for parts and labor. This is so disappointing!.
Smell of smoke, and tapping noise prior to fire. Smoke came from near the center console between driver and passenger seat. Fire started. Made a complaint prior about smell of smoke and noise.

Frequent fume smells coming from the exhaust. I drive with my babies ages 3 and 4. I'm afraid this will have an effect on their health as well as mine. Sometimes we get headaches and I feel it's from being in this vehicle. Electric problems with the sunroof. Not working and unable to close.
The steering became so bad it was not safe to drive and could easily have caused a bad accident. I did not let my wife drive it. Local auto repair shop said it is an electrical issue in the steering so I drove it unsafely to Ford dealer who told us it is an issue with the steering gear. This should not happen in a 2013 vehicle with a little over 100k miles.
When I shift it to park. It doesn't recognize it and when you turn of the car. A sign comes up on the dash screen saying shit into park. And it drains your battery because the system is waiting for you to shift it. Also you can't use the factory remote start.
The back up camera just started working sometimes and sometimes when we go in reverse it will come on then go away and says to contact dealership. This issue just started.
This dealing with the my sync (myford touch) . The system will will cause the screen to go black,it also will cause the a/c & heater, navigation, and radio to stop working. This happens while the vehicle is moving. To restore the system you have to pull over and reboot the system by turning off the vehicle. I just recieved a customer satisfaction program alert for Ford on 5/25/2019. Dealer will not repair because they clam that the program has expired. But I can have the repair done for the cost $1200. 00.
The "door ajar" warning continues to appear after driver door is shut. Once the car is in motion and comes to a stop, the warning will audibly beep and display a message to shift to park, thus distracting the driver. The warning prevents the dome lights was shutting off until the car is in motion. All of which is a drain on the car battery. Issue appears to be a faulty car door sensor. I've cleaned it, but it only offered a temporary fix.
