*vehicle makes popping noise *jerks, loss of power when going down the road, hard to steer, push on gas and will not go. Engine light and wrench come on. Called dealer when first happened was told to turn off back on to reset. Have worked with dealer and manufacture. This is dangerous and I'm terrified to drive the vehicle. This will be at least the fourth time back in the shop for repairs. In addition to several calls.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed and attempting to make a left turn, the steering wheel failed to respond. The contact shifted to park(p) and then shifted back into drive(d). The vehicle then regained steering functionality. The contact was able to continue driving however, the failure recurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer on three occasions; however, the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure and the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 30,676.
The car sways when changing lanes on parkway.
My steering wheel would become very sticky. I would make a turn and then when I would go to turn the wheel back, it would stick. It almost threw me into a tractor trailer yesterday. I noticed it more at high speeds and most times it was something I could deal with, planning ahead when turning, slowing my speed, accounting for over correcting the wheel, but yesterday was very scary. I felt like I had to make constant little turns with my wheel even though I was going perfectly straight. I pulled off and turned my car off and then turned it back on and it was as noticeably not as bad. I took it straight to the dealership because I've had it for less than two months and they informed me I need a new steering gear box. I was constantly afraid of over correcting my wheel to accommodate for the stickiness of it and ending up in the other lane or off the side of the road.
The eps unit suddenly failed without warning and almost caused us to get into an accident. From doing a little research I have discovered that this has been an issue since Ford created the epas system. We were traveling on the highway at the time it failed. Restarting the car did not temporarily fix our issue. This issue has been documented by multiple people for quite a few years now without result. This is a serious safety issue.
Slowing down hard shift @ 40 and @20. Steering feels like it wants to pull when driving on a curve or when turning.
When going low speeds under 50 the car will jerk to the right and it's like someone else has control of the wheel then you have to jerk it back on the road. It has happened several times while I was driving and once when my husband drove. We thought we were going straight in a ditch. Help this is not safe.
Power steering just stops working and almost can not turn the wheel and tracking controls stop working. This is police vehicle on a city street just before a turn.
As I was driving the Explorer the cross traffic alert sensors went hayware, then the navigator, radio, hvac, and everything else froze did commands on its own. The part assist mode came on it own, steering wheel controls would not work and car started to take control. Very scary as the car was taking commands I could not control. Took it to the local Ford dealer where it was determined to be the accessory protocol interface module (apim). My vehicle is just out of warranty and Ford motor company would not help. Very dangerous, cost me $1,200. Ford had this same problem on earlier models and recalled, but not on mine. This failure need to be addressed and if not fixed could lead to a serious accident. Ford needs to issue a recall. Ford was no help to me, very disappoint in Ford and their neglect to mine and my families stafey.
We bougth the car on August 2019 with 4700 miles. In November 2019 the car started occasionally (3 times during 3 month period) to sound the reverse alarm sensor while driving. Then car didn't start, so we changed the battery. In mid March, after taking my 3 kids (our daughter 6 and the twins were 2) to the park, the car will start but the steering wheel was not turning. It was just stock and hard to move. We are so grateful that this didn't happen while driving. We couldn't take it to the dealer because of the pandemic (we didn't wanted to exposed ourselves to any other people). Finally in September, the car was towed to the dealer. They called the following day and explained that to repair will cost us $ 1790. Plus other regular items that needed to be done for a total of $2098. While I do understand that manufacturing errors do happen, still I can't comprehend the fact that the car is 50519 miles and already needs these expensive repairs that could have cause a very dangerous accident to my family. This is our family car! I drive my kids to school and to the park every day. How come something this serious is not put on a test before putting a car into the market (?). But, more than being very disappointed and shocked from what happened and I find the situation very irritating. New cars simply don't do that. I would like to please help me understand what happened to our family car and I would like for you to ensure this wont happen again, I am scared of driving my family in the car and expose them to something like what happened. Is there a recall for this? shall we give warning to other car owners? this is very dangerous!.
Steering tightens up on curves or straight a-ways. Dealer ran test on computer and found no problems, and a test drive did not reveal any problem at the time. Dealer stated that it was electric steering. Steering is still a problem. . . .
Vehicle loses acceleration, stalls and shakes when at a stop. Jerks when backing up. Vehicle has been to Ford two times. First time replaced throttle, and second time unable to duplicate error. Currently will be picking up vehichle from sheehy Ford ashland in va. This is extremely unsafe.
Paint on the hood is bubbling, steering feels lose, and the instrument panel cracked do to cold temp. . . . Contacted Ford they dia ot help or did not car.
Driving one day in the neighborhood and power steering locked up briefly intermittently, with the error message. Turned car off and on again and was fine, later on in the day power steering locked up for good and the error message is always there.
Rear suspension toe link recall: driving approximately 50 miles/hr with my husband behind the wheel and myself and our 3 children in this family vehicle, this rear suspension broke. We live in rural saline county and drive gravel daily. The incident happened while entering a bridge on a highway. We lost almost complete control of steering requiring the driver to completely turn the wheel as quickly as possible in one direction and turn back as quickly as possible in the other swerving and forcefully circling back and forth on a bridge until the vehicle finally came to a stop further down the road. God' grace alone saved us from going over the bridge, or hitting oncoming traffic or having injuries, potentially fatal at this rate of speed and location. I am dissatisfied in the notification of recall information from the dealer and NHTSA. I only found out what must have happened after googling 'Ford Explorer' and seeing a news post 2 days earlier. The notification of the recall will come much too late in the mail in the next couple weeks. Too late! there has got to be a better, fast way of notifying driver so the recall parts more timely. We have the technology. Put your family in this situation and say this way of notifying the consumer is adequate!.
The cruise control at my speed of 65 mph stopped alone cause the car to break making me loose control, 2nd the voice command don't work or responding, to help navigation or phone perpouse ( don't use cell while driving) around December 2018 bring tothe attention of the dealer at service and the miss. Kenya after I pick the car she mansion that the reset to the manufacture day was relased , but the problem continue as today 10/07/2019 on June the battery exploded, and thank god how no body get injury. Refuse to repaire the issues, claim the car is mile coverage is over, but the problem strat before plus all this it's manufature issues, please help me.
Vehicle has an NHTSA recall notice#:19v435 and a Ford issued recall#:19s17 which indicates as follows: recall description: rear suspension toe link replacement. Risk to safety: a fracture of a rear toe link significantly diminishes steering control, increasing the risk of a crash! I have contacted 3 different deals in my area (ecino, CA, 91316) all said that the replacement parts are currently unavailable. In addition, on Thursday, June 27th, 2019 I have contacted Ford motor company to see if the issue can be resolved but I got the same answer. They said I have to wait until the parts are available and they are currently back ordered with no estimated time for the issue with the vehicle can be resolved. They have asked me if I would like Ford motor company to "lemon" the vehicle and buy it back, I replied: "absolutely yes". They have opened a case#:cas21920919 I am seriously worried for my life when driving the Ford Explorer. I suffer from understeering whenever I attempt a left or right turn. At speed over 40 mph, the vehicle will start shaking giving me a sense of almost no grip to the road. In addition, I constantly have the "front airbag" light on (see picture attached) the dashboard, both when vehicle is in motion & stationary. This issue happened before and I took the car to a Ford dealer to resolve the issue (the service tech said that the sensor was malfunctioned and in a case of an accident, "front airbag" might not deploy!!! this is absolutely absurd. I here by certifie that my vehicle is serviced on time (see picture attached) and currently has 29,492 miles on it (see picture attached). I am not sure what is NHTSA part in all of this, but if you can help me deal with Ford motor company in resolving these issues and get rid of this vehicle, l will be very pleased and appreciative. Respectfully, zion yosef (818)854-2898 yosefmeister@gmail. Com.

Tires that came with vehicle have chunks of tread peeling off /cutting from normal driving of 9100 miles and 11 months. This presents several hazards such as vehicle stability, traction and potential blowout / rollovers other sizes these same hankook ventus s1 noble2 have already been recalled due to similar failures. These are 255/50 r 20 size.
Making a left turn in the snow and my power steering locked up and I hit the curb, thr dealer is telling me there's no way this can happen and has never happened before. Won't warranty anything and I'm stuck with a vehicle I believe to be unsafe for my wife and children to ride in.
While driving at slow speeds (25 to 40 mph) the steering will feel like it is "binding up" slightly when turning. This will not happen every time so the dealer was unable to duplicate it. Also after driving on the freeway in a straight line for a long period of time, when you turn the wheel slightly I will feel that same binding. If you push through if it gives way and then acts normally. Feels like the cars steering gear box has a gear loose or a gear in miss aligning internally. We bought the care with 15k miles on it. We noticed the problem at around 20k and immediately took it to the dealership where they were not able to recreate the problem. The car now has 30k miles on it and the problem is getting worst.
