The power steering went completely out. Steering wheel locked up & the turn signal & wipers wouldn't work. At first , I could turn the vehicle off & it would reset but it started happening more often at a low speed or when I would put the vehicle in reverse. It went completely out in August 2019. My particular 2013 Ford explored didn't have a recall for this & it cost $2,300 to fix.
While driving down the highway the Explorer has suddenly shut down on two occasions. The first time (July 2019) I was driving about 50 mph. I was able to cruise off into a median. The second time (Aug 5, 2019) I was coming off an on ramp onto a busy highway at about 60 mph. Once again the car suddenly powered off. I was lucky to be in the far right lane and was able to cruise off into a wide grassy area. The traffic I was merging into was at 70 mph. In both instances the wrench light came on. This is very dangerous as the car loses power and you have practically no control over the steering or brakes. If I had not been able to cruise off and/or had been in the center lane of a major highway I could have been rear ended by vehicles at high speeds. In both instances, once I was off the road I turned the car off, waited a few seconds, and restarted. The car started back up normally and then seemed to work ok. It's like the electrical or software system requires a 'reset'. This is a serious safety issue as it occurs with no warning and the driver cannot control the car and must come to a stop to turn off the engine and restart.

I have a 2012 Ford Explorer that was included in the safety recall 14s06. The pscm was reprogrammed prior to me purchasing the vehicle. Associated to recall 14s06 is the extended coverage program 15n01, which is to remain open on the vehicles that were recalled in the event that any loss of steering assist dtcs are present. My Explorer has a complete loss of power steering and the dealer has noted that my entire steering gear assembly must be replaced. Ford refuses to acknowledge extended coverage 15n01. This coverage is supposed to last for 10 years and 150,000 miles. I am at 144,000 miles. Ford continues to repeat that my car is not included in the special coverage. However, publications from Ford indicate otherwise. Replacement of my steering gear is $2,200. All of which should be covered by Ford. My power steering and stabilitrak warnings go off and I lose power steering while driving. This is a safety issue that needs to be addressed correctly by Ford. Ford's customer care department is severely incapable of answering the most basic questions. They are also incapable of accurately documenting what you have called about making it impossible to reach any resolution or provide information beyond what you research on your own. I requested escalation and was told that they don't have bosses, won't escalate my request for additional information or provide original recall notifications for my VIN. I was told the only way to pursue the issue further was to write a letter.

-failure of electronic steering gear- I have a 2015 Ford Explorer sport with 50,000 miles on it. 2 weeks ago I had a "steering fault assist" light come on while driving the vehicle on the interstate. I did not experience an issue steering at the time. Once I pulled off the interstate I restarted the vehicle and the alert went away. 5 days later I was diving in the city and the "steering fault assist" light came on again followed by "advance trak warning. " I lost power steering immediately. I got to an area to pull off and restarted the vehicle. Both warnings immediately came back on. I was over 4 hours from home, so I had to drive over 250 miles without power steering. I called multiple Ford service locations in my area, only one would take it and look at it within the week. I found out today that following a diagnostic test, I am needing to replace the electronic steering gear as it failed internally. Ford quoted me $2000 + tax to fix it. After going online, I have found numerous complaints of the exact same thing happening with other Ford Explorer owners. I am completely disappointed in Ford!.
2016 Ford Explorer - the backup camera will come on while traveling down the highway at 55-60 mph. Will cause it to loose power, the rpm's drop right below 1000, the wrench symbol comes on, and it will barely move down the road. A screen will pop up on occasion saying hill assist is unavailable. You have to pullover, turn the car off, open the driver door to make sure the radio and all goes off, wait exactly one minute, and then you are able to crank the vehicle up to be able to move. I have taken to dealership, and all they say is it's a sensor inside the transmission, and all they can do is clear the code out. They say that it is saying my vehicle is trying to engage in reverse while going down the road. This sounds like a huge safety issue especially when I have had others say the same thing has happened to them as well. I have reached out to the dealership in regards to my warranty, but I have yet to hear back from them, and it has been over 2 weeks. I have also reached out to the sales representative several times, and I have yet to hear from him. I contacted them because while looking at the paperwork it said it had a limited power train warranty, but it was purchased as a pre-certified used vehicle with an unlimited power train warranty they were offering for vehicles with lest than 80,000 miles. I have not had it a year yet. I have an email from the sales rep himself stating that it is unlimited. It was purchase in September of 2018.

I stopped at traffic light, I heard a strange sound, and the airbag light came on. I press the gas gas to cross intersection and car would only go 3 miles an hour, I managed to turn into side street, and turned car off. When I restarted car and I was able to accelerate and proceeded to drive to my destination, when I stopped at another red light it happened again and then engine light came on. I then turned off car and restated to find all warning lights off. I then drove to auto nation Ford dealership. They diagnosed with a throttle problem. When checking the internet I see a lot of people have had this same problem, it could have bee a very dangerous situation since this happened st an intersection.
I was stuck at a standstill in traffic on a city highway with my family on father's day when the dash lit up with multiple warnings such as "steering loss stop safely," "service advancetrac," "stability control off," and "hill start assist not available. " I was not moving and could not understand what happened. No one was injured and the vehicle's power steering failed. The vehicle was not overheating. Roadside brought the vehicle to a nearby dealer. Eventually, two days later, the computer said we needed a new steering column (I thought a steering column should last the life of the vehicle. . . ). There were no warning signs, no leaks, and no strange noises. Of course, I was past my warranty. Pretty hefty bill. There is an new recall for a rear suspension problem that was issued just days earlier.

I was diving down the highway at approximately 55-60mph when my vehicle jerked twice then started decelerating rapidly. At that time pressing the gas pedal had no effect and I had to pull over on to the shoulder to avoid getting hit by oncoming traffic. A wrench light came on and my car began to shake and would not accelerate. I put the car in park and waited a few minutes but it did not stop shaking and the wrench light would not go off. I turned my car off halfway on the highway and half on the shoulder with oncoming traffic. After leaving the car off for approximately 3 minutes I turned it back on and the wrench light went off and my car operated normally. The same thing happened the next day. I called my local Ford dealership and was told that they could not take my car that day. I was leaving for vacation the next day and planned on going in my elxplorer but did not feel safe so I dropped it off at a local mechanic. I was told that the diagnostic test didn't show anything and that I would have to take the car in while the light was on, which is impossible because the car won't accelerate while the light is on. The same thing has happened two more times within a week. I'm am scared to death to drive this car with my children in it.
Power steering loss for the 2nd time, even after dealership inspection. Claimed to not be a apart of 2013 recall list.
Engine damage due to overheating. Regular and required oil changes are documented and implemented as scheduled. No other engine or vehicle malfunctions during the course of ownership, except regular oil changes and tire replacement. However, on may 15, 2019, vehicle sensor notified oil change needed. Five days later vehicle stalled at local motel due to decreased power, rocking motion of car and luckily we were able to slowly turn into local hotel to cut off engine and get to safety. After 2 hours of letting vehicle set and cool down, local mechanic, checked and said we had enough oil in vehicle and not sure what happened. Was able to drive vehicle home, with no sensors on dashboard alerting us to any further problems. Three days later, with no visible sensors flashing, car began to exhibit rocking motion not sputtering motion as I began to pull out in four-way intersection, and approaching traffic heading my way. Then suddenly, car regained power and was able to continue to proper lane as if nothing was wrong. After traveling another 1. 6 miles, car just starting losing power, check engine, low oil pressure light, temperature light warning all appeared suddenly. I was able to drift in middle lane in front of dealership where vehicle was purchased. I immediatedly turned vehicle off and walked to dealership to get help in moving vehicle off the road. After 3days of waiting, duncah dealership in christiansburg, va, notifed us that head gasget was cracked and over 7,000 repair bill was needed to fix engine repair. As noted before no major problems has ever been repaired or replaced regarding this vehicle. During the two incidents regarding the vehhicle losing power, without no visible vehicle sensor notifications is of great concern to us regarding our safety in driving our vehicle. Thankfully, we weren't on a major highway.

Steering is hard to steer. Feels like you have no power steering. Doesn't happen all the time just when you turn the steering wheel when driving slow. Also paint on the hood peeling off. Took to a garage for the steering and they say it's a known issue but no recall.
Power steering assist fault. . While operating a vehicle fault comes on steering gets hard hard to control causing my wife to almost get to an accident. It only comes on once in a great while to reset its you have to shut the car off and turn it back on it only happens in the morning when she's taking the kids to school it's rare but it's happened four times already.

I had a sync black screen the central processing unit and apim was no good so I had no control of anything like the heat defrost or anything that controlled with the touch screen including the rear camera and sensors to the car and from what I read that is a known problem with that car of that year.
Power steering assist came on as I was driving and lost steering. Very dangerous.
Power steering assist fault. Causing loss of power steering almost causing a accident was able to pull to side of road unable to steer the vehicle. Others have had this and some recalled but not all. This recall needs to be extended before someone dies. City street. I can't imagine being on a freeway in phoenix when this happened.
Steering wheel locks up when you start truck and have to turn off and restarts to go away.

Unavailable cmara , problems whit back door , engine light turning on.
Purchase vehicle 2 21 2019 and the two engine lights warning lights breaking decelerates which is very dangerous driving on the highways. Service light tracking light stays on and the vehicle does all this on it's on. I have contacted by chat the Ford corporation about this serious issue with this make and model. I was told their was no service bulletin so they could not help me. They refuse to address the dangerous matter this make and model has very dangerousand the lights are still on. Also with the engine lights staying on all the time the cruise control does not work.
Was driving down the interstate and the power steering went out advancetrac lights came on and the dash started flashing service power steering now and service advancetrac now.
Started vehicle to go to work and had no power steering. Power steering assist fault service required box popped up. Turned vehicle off and on, still faulted so I tried a few more times. Put vehicle in reverse, backed up, then went forward. Lost stabilatrac, went into menu and box was unchecked and I was unable to select it. Also at the same time a collision warning fault appeared. Looked down at the terrain management, there were no lights illuminated so I turned it. Instant terrain management fault appeared. So now I have 4 box faults on the left display and two yellow stabilatrac lights on to the right, one says off with the symbol and the other just the symbol. Tried unhooking battery, no luck. Called Ford dealership, made an appointment for 2 days later, the earliest. Started vehicle up next day, nothing cleared. Called tow company and told them to take it to the dealership and it can sit there. Talked to service manager and sounds like they already had an idea I was going to be getting a new steering rack. I'm just glad I wasnt driving at high speeds like a lot of the other posts and how are a few years on recall when it seems to be all years from 2011 on up. Vehicle is waiting for another day to get into the mechanics bay even though I already know it will be a 1500 to 2500 dollar repair. Vehicle has 76k miles. Dont get me started on the key fob. Oh and it was -38 degrees with winchill.
Like recall number 14s06, my Explorers power steering assist is intermittent and will sometimes will not work at all. I've checked with a local dealer and they say that it is not a recall under our VIN. This vehicle lost power steering while my wife was driving with both of our young children in the car.
I was driving my truck and one day it started acting weird. My stereo started shutting off and coming in by itself. A couple days later I was driving and my stereo and information center went out and came back on. My truck will only go about 30mps cause it won't shift either. Couple days ago it started back firing. What could be the problem.

While driving my vehicle at a slow speed my steering wheel locked up.
"takata recall" odor problem when accelerating. My child was diagnose being on the spectrum. Might be because of the carbon monoxide who knows. There is also a leak on both rear seat belts my kids always get dretched with water running down their car seat and clothes. Catching colds and pneumonia. So frustrating.
I was driving my 2014 Ford Explorer along the freeway doing about 70 mph and started smelling an odor when all of a sudden the steering wheel started violently shaking and a bell stated beeping. A message on the left blinked on steering failed park safely and steering traction lights came on . The car was hard to steer. I had to find a place to pull over quickly. I managed to get the car off the freeway. We sat there trying to figure out what happen and if we could possibly drive it home. But of course we couldn't as the steering wheel was completely locked. Nothing we could do but call a wrecker to tow the car home. If I had been driving in the far left lane, we would have been in a dangerous position to get hit as the car lost power all of a sudden. Last night while checking for recall information, I found this web site and learned that almost a hundred other people have had the exact same problem but could not find a recall number. I going to venture a guess that there has not been enough serious injuries or deaths yet. We were quoted over $1800 to repair our car. We cannot afford this. Someone needs to say enough, all these same problems on the same car has to be a manufacturer's failure. The consumers need help now. Is anyone listening to us?.
My vehicle keeps giving me a "shift to park" message after it's already in park. I purchased the vehicle in the summer of 2012 and it's a 2013. Within the first month of having it this issue began. I've mentioned it several times when I've taken my vehicle in for service. I even took it in just for that error message and was told because the issue couldn't be duplicated I would have to bring it back when it happens again and I still had to pay the diagnostic fee of $150 plus tax.
takata recal when my car has been sitting in the driveway for a full day without being driven or started. The following day you go to start the car. It starts no problem, once your in reverse the battery light will come on and as soon as you put it in drive I lose all power and function to steer. If I hit the gas petal it will regain power. The light will disappear only if I hit ok. This happens every time without fail. I also smell carbon dioxide or gas fumes from time to time.
I was driving my 2015 Ford Explorer with approximately 34,200 miles 55-60 mph on us 141 in northern WI when I suddenly lost power steering and traction control. I had an alarm triggered and a fault warning on the dash indicating a steering fault and cleared by pressing the ok on the dash, but had very heavy steering and an indication that the traction control was off. I was able to get to a Ford dealer but they were no able to look at the car for several hours. They suggested I restart the car to see what would reset. The systems did reset and I was able to continue on my trip home without incident. No codes were triggered and I now have an appointment with my dealer to check out the problem. In searching the internet on Explorer steering problems, I noticed that there was a recall on steering loss for 2011-2014 Explorers and yet there are still many complains of steering loss for model years 2015 forward. It seems that this very dangerous issue has not been resolved.
We were driving at about 45 miles an hour when advanc trac and power steering light came on. The steering got suddenly very hard to maneuver husband had both hand trying to keep it steady, he had to pull very hard to be able to pull in gas station to get out of traffic. Blinkers no longer worked, terrain knob turned off and didn't work. This could have been a fatal accident if we were going at higher speeds! this problem needs to be recalled so that no one gets killed.
