Lift gate causes the body frame to split.
Crack in liftgate that occurred spontaneously when weather became winter--rear wipers were used and crack occurred. Recall was done at this area dealer summer 2005 prior to correct liftgate recall. . . . . We inquired about possible over tightening during recall service and it was denied. We have had this car since the summer of 2002 and have had it in cold weather before and up until the recall fix it never cracked. Concerned about glass falling out since the tailgate is cracked from top to bottom. The dealer asserted that it was a known problem with cracks in liftgate. . . Since we are not under warranty we had to pay $600 to get this fixed. Mileage on the car is only 23000!!!!! it is the safety issue of glass falling out while driving or falling into the car upon my children that concerns me. Many internet websites I have been to discuss other such cracks occurring in the tailgate I don't understand why some dealers are willing to help and others don't. The prices vary too which amazes me.
Structure, body, hatchback/liftgate,hinge and attachments. I was closing my hatch on my 2003 Ford Explorer VIN#1fmzu73k732b54248 when the left hinge broke free from the body of the vehicle.

While driving down the road, the liftgate (glass portion) of my 2005 Explorer will pop open. There are no patterns (I. E. Hitting a bump) to when it will open. My fear is I will be hauling something - the back will come open and everything will fall out onto the raod. My dogs travel back there to and from dog shows. I took it to the dealer, they adjusted the strike plate. It stopped for a while but now it is happening again. The dealer can't define the problem so they refuse to work on it.

Back door latch on my Ford Explorer 2005 has come open twice while I was driving.
On several occasions, the liftback on the vehicle unlatched itself. In all but one occurance, this was not noticed until after the vehicle was in a parked position. The most recent occurence was March 9, 2004.
On three separate occasions the gate lift of my Explorer opened on it's own. This happened when the vehicle was quite new. I reported it to Ford and they could not find the problem. They said that unless it malfunctioned while they were in possession of it, they could not remedy the problem. I now tie down the gate when carrying precious cargo, my dogs.
My 2002 Ford Explorer had it's rear glass fall off when I attempted to open it 2 days ago. I called Ford and they sounded surprised. I called them back with the information about the 50,000+ vehicles recalled for this and they remain unimpressed. I'm looking for some help. I called winchester Ford, (winchester va) 540 667 4434. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks very much, ben.
The rear tail gate will not open, when the doors are locked the glass is still unlocked. The rear wiper will not work either. When the glass is open the door ajar light doesn't come on. Since I can't tell weather it is latched securely or not, I am afraid that if ever in an accident it may open on its own. The dealers want a large payment just to see what is wrong with it and then more to fix it. Ford hasn't given me any guess as to what the issue is or what caused it. It just happened one day I went to open the gate and it will not open.
