Accelerator Pedal Problems of Ford Explorer Sport

Driving when he felt gas pedal went down, it began to accelerate all on its own in busy traffic. He was pressing brake at the same time in effort to stop. Could smell something as if burning. Jammed ignition into park and pulled keys out. Vehicle stopped. Called triple a and the cops, vehicle was towed. No accident. No repairs yet. While driving at 55 mph consumer felt vibration in the gas pedal. The gas pedal went to the floor and vehicle accelerated to near 100 mph. Consumer had to veer off the road, and put the gear shift into park to stop the vehicle. There was a recall for this vehicle but consumer's vehicle was not a part of the recall due to VIN.

Contact states she previously owned a 2002 Ford Explorer Sport that was in an accident due to the sudden acceleration of the vehicle. When the consumer placed the vehicle in reverse there was sudden acceleration, causing vehicle to hit a telephone pole. The consumer then placed the vehicle into drive, and it stayed in full throttle, causing the contact's vehicle to hit another vehicle. The day that the accident occurred it was slightly raining. The consumer no longer has the vehicle, so she does not have any information about the vehicle available.
