As I was driving to work one morning suddenly my headlights and all interior lights, such as the dashboard, suddenly went out without any warning and nothing electrical would work such as the radio and the windows and all the gauges in the dash dropped to zero or the needle fell all the way to the left. This has become an ongoing problem and I never know when it's going to go out or come back on for that matter and sometimes when it's acting crazy my speedometer will just jump all over the place. I believe this is a safety issue not only for myself but for other drivers on the road as my lights may suddenly go out as I am driving to work at 4:00 a. M. When it is dark. It is also a safety issue because when this happens I have no idea what speed I am driving or how much gas I have left or if my vehicle is starting to get hot. I have not taken the vehicle to the dealer or anywhere else for fear of it costing an arm and a leg to fix the problem, as every single Ford that I have ever owned seems to have had some type of electrical issue. I do have video of my gauges going crazy as I am driving on the highway; however looking ahead in this form it looks as if I can only submit photos and not a video.

I was driving and the lights on the vehicle went out I thought it was the bulbs but no lights were working I adjusted steering wheel to look to see fuse box and all lights came back on there is an electrical short somewhere then I went to start the truck and it made a funny sound and then I lost all power and truck wouldn't start then the alarm kept going off and I could turn off even with the remote or the chipped key. And the truck won't start. Also when you change gears the indicator to show what gear you are in dosent move . This truck has electrical issues and is not safe for drivers to lose all power like this and basically its something Ford should be responsible for fixing because it's a defect in the electrical system also the ac compressor dosent work.

Tl- the contact owns a 2008 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. The contact stated that while driving 15 mph on the sand in a beach area that there was a failure of which a strong burning odor started, excess heat was felt by the driver, front passenger and 3 rear passengers. The vehicle was pulled over as they exited the vehicle. Upon inspecting the vehicle, it was noticed that there was a small fire near the transmission area, fluid had leaked onto the catalytic converter as the fire progressed to destroying the vehicle with the fire becoming extensive which had errupted all the way to the fuel system to the fuel tank. The fire department had arrived and extinguished the remaining flames. The insurance company had not rendered any assistance to inspect the cause of the fire. A dealer had not diagnosed the cause of the fire yet. The vehicle was destroyed due to the internal failure resulting in a catastrophic fire. The manufacturer was notified of the failure to determine if they may be able to investigate the cause of the fire. The approximate failure mileage was 81,000. Dyd.

My 2005 Explorer Sport Trac had a check engine light come on and when it does, my instrument cluster stops working. My tachometer, speedometer, temp, and fuel gauges stop working. Here lately, my radio and power windows have stopped working. My daughter was driving and reported to me that the vehicle starts shaking and shuts off as well. Not really sure what is going on with it, but when everything stops working, I sit there and hit the dash to get the lights and windows to start working again. I used to be able to hit the dash with my hand and get the check engine light to go off and the gauges start working. When I called my local Ford store and talked to them in service, they quoted me like $400 for a part and just as much for labor, like they have been having these problems and they knew what it was to fix. I don't feel safe driving, but with the odometer not registering miles for the past 6 months, I now have a vehicle that is considered salvage title because it is unknown miles.
The driver seat back kept falling into the back seat while driving, now the seat back doesn't move. The passenger is doing the same just not as bad. The heated seats come on whenever they want, but the heated driver's seat has stopped working all together. The seat belts randomly lock and barely retract.
The contact owns a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. The contact stated that the vehicle randomly failed to start upon turning the key numerous times. The dealer (pegues-hurst Ford, 200 TX-63 spur, longview, TX 75601, (903) 758-6211) was contacted and indicated that they would need to determine if they could replicate and diagnose the failure. The contact was advised to schedule an appointment with the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer issued 12 technical service bulletins (tsbs) for the electrical system, 52 tsbs for the engine, and 3 tsbs for the fuel system gasoline, but the contact was uncertain as to which part caused the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 170,000.
Right rear directional light and hazard light are not working. Replaced bulb and socket 4 times within a year. The left directional/hazard light does illuminate.
Driving one day the od off light began flashing now it shifts hard and clinks and clacks going down road.

I purchased a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Tract I didn't get to test drive it because there were other vehical surrounding it. When I finally got to drive my truck home I noticed the transmission had a severe issue. When I turned a corner my tires rubbed badly on some other part to the trucks parts and the driver seat has a medal rod that jabs me in the back that's coming thru the fabric now my battery has leaked acid every where in the battery compartment and surrounding areas.
I have two 2007 Ford one is a freestyle and the other is a sport trac and they are having the same problem. The inside lights come on and off by themselves. They stay on for a few minutes then they click back off then back on and off again. The freestyle does not have a auto switch for the lights but the sport trac does. It happens all the while that you are driving which in the state of texas if the inside lights are on while driving you can get a ticket.
Dome light turns on and off intermittently when driving. Often occurs when driving over rough road or in turn. Will turn off if (any) door is opened and closed or if the key is "jiggled".
There was not warning lights on dash, truck slowed down then engine raced up all on its own turned I turned off road shifted to nutral and sat until the racing stopped continued on to auto part store where they plugged into engine it read strange codes. .
Driving the car it began to lose power, then get power, then it shut off. Restarted the car, started driving and it surged unexpectedly then began to lose power again, then it shut off. This scared my wife because she didn't know if it was going to surge or lose power. Took it to a mechanic and finally after a lot of diagnostics they determined it was the ecm or electronic power control module. I have researched this and a lot of people have had this problem. . Ford knows of the problem but will not replace the module. Others have written of this same problem. . Read more...
Ever since I got the truck about 4 months ago I have been having a problem with the rear breaks locking up. It happens after the vehicle has been sitting up for a few hours and it's raining or there's a good but of moisture in the air. When you first get in the truck the rear breaks will lock up on you only going forward for some reason. If you apply very little pressure it does it. After about 10 times locking it up it drives fine as long as its not parked for a while. On a good hot summer day with no moister or rain it does do it at all. A few weeks ago I backed out my drive way it was raining and it did it. So I decided to pull back into my driveway and take my fiance's car to town. When I was pulling up it locked up when I trying to stop and slid into the corner of my home. No major damage was done just cracked the front bumper. I have taking it to 3 local macnics. None know how to fix. They looked at the breaks, rotors and hubs. All was fine. One macanic told me this was the 3 time he has seen this on the same exact kind of truck. I do like the truck. But I'm terrified to drive it. I thought about selling it, but now I'm in a situation where if someone gets hurt in it I would feel horrible. I sure hope someone on here can help me out with this problem.

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. The contact stated while driving approximately 70 mph, the engine stalled without warning. The contact was unable to activate the hazard lights because the entire electrical system had failed. The contact managed to merge over to the emergency lane. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for a diagnosis. The technician was able to restart the vehicle but was unable to diagnose the problem. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had not been notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
My gas gauge needle started going beyond full then intermittently would be on e when I just filled it. Each time I would start the truck the gas gauge would show different needle readings. After a month or so it the gas needle quit moving or reading at all. I assumed it was in the fuel tank. I took it in to shop and after taking off the fuel tank there was no problem found. I had to replace the entire cluster panel. Cost almost $1000. There are quite a few comments on the gas gauge not working correctly.
The speedometer gets stuck at different speed and the rpm gauge does the same. This is very dangerous, you could be driving faster than you think. The engine check light also comes on. I can sometime reset using the trip counter reset button. This problem seem to be getting worst. My speedometer seem to be getting stuck more often now and it seem to be getting harder to reset.
Truck cut off 4 times in middle traffic would not stay on. No warning light change tried to pull off truck just kept cutting off.
Rusting wires on the drivers side step plate.
Rusting wires under the drivers side step plate.
Stopped to get fuel and truck would not start. Engine would turn over, but would not start. I had vehicle towed to the Ford dealership. Told by the Ford service manager that it was the fuel control module located by the rear spare tire and they have replaced many of them. The Ford dealership confirmed it and replaced the fuel control module. My cost $386. 93. We had purchased a extended motor vehicle service agreement (national protection plan, inc. ) from capital Ford in madison, WI. We were told when we purchased the policy it was a bumper to bumper and the company will not stand behind policy.
Parked vehicle. Turned off ignition. Key would not release from the ignition. Cycled the auto shift lever to make sure in park. At this point noted that I could shift out of park without my foot being on the brake. Very dangerous. I was able to remove the key by pulling the ignition fuse. I pulled the fuse and removed the key. Reinstalled the fuse. Was still able to shift out of park without my foot on the brake. I left the car sitting for a while and noted that the battery had completely drained down. I was able to jump the car off to start it. If I leave the ignition fuse in, the battery will completely drain down again.
The contact owns a 2003 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. While driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle abnormally decelerated to 40 mph. In addition, there was smoke coming from the front end of the vehicle. The contact was informed by another driver that sparks were coming from under the vehicle. The contact maneuvered the vehicle to the shoulder and discovered that there were flames under the driver’s side of the vehicle. The fire department was called and a fire report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard and was not repaired. The vehicle was destroyed. The approximate failure mileage was 182,000.
I come to realize in the automotive industry vehicles do not a transmission gauge. Transmission sensory light to let you know when your transmission fluid is getting low. This is a problem for me and many more americans. My Ford explorer sport trac do not have a transmission sensory light or a gauge. The transmission is slipping and not shipping out gears right. Someone is responsible for this problem. We have all other fluid gauges except a transmission gauge.
Water/moisture in sunroof motor assembly causing at first a short enabling sunroof to operate own it's own power, then upon removing assembly an oily water mixture began dripping out causing full breakdown. Rust was on mechanical wheel & white ( dry) spots on computer board. Excessive metal shavings on metal rods that operate sunroof. No sign of water / moisture entry into assembly, unit was excessively hot to touch from direct sun on roof of vehicle. Pictures are available.
Sitting at a stop sign vehicle went into acceleration gas peddle went to floor. Foot was on the brake. Checked no carpet stuck under the gas peddle. Foot was not touching gas peddle. It was almost like the cruise control was pressing the gas peddle. Cruise control was off. Shut vehicle off then back on issue went away. This has happened other times to myself and my wife. Sometimes while pushing the gas the gas peddle leaves your foot and continues to the floor on its own, pressing the brake and turning vehicle off seems to resolve the issue. This issue happens so in frequently that it is hard to reproduce for service shop.

We became the owners a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac through a family member, and found that the signal blinkers do not work when the steering column is adjusted. The family member never knew she could adjust the steering column (she is 74 years old). I contacted Ford and they declined this was a safety issue. The blinkers work fine as long as the steering column remains in the top upright unadjusted position. I researched this problem on the internet and several owners have complained with the same problem in other Ford trucks as well such as the Ford 150 pickup truck. Yet, Ford claims this is not a safety issue. Our Ford dealer has closed locally. I am interested in finding out if this problem has been identified as a safety issue.
