36 Electrical System problem of the 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

Failure Date: 02/21/2008

Left rear blinker and brake light quit working. Bulbs and fuses were changed but did not correct the problem. Problem was found in tilt steering column. A wire pulled itself free of the wire connection harness due to usage of the tilt steering feature. This problem could have led to a very serious traffic accident since drivers behind the vehicle had no idea the vehicle was preparing to make an left hand turn and it compounded the problem because only one brake light worked. My husband took the steering column off and reinserted the wire into the harness and applied epoxy to secure it.

37 Electrical System problem of the 2004 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

Failure Date: 01/03/2008

Cruise control has failed and needed to be repaired 3 times in the past year and a half. The dealer tells me that the switch in the steering wheel is defective, but I do not believe him. How can the same switch fail and be replaced 3 times. It is something deeper in the system, however changing the switch out alleviates the problem for a while. Now that the truck is out of warranty, it will become a major headache.

39 Electrical System problem of the 2007 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

Failure Date: 10/22/2007

Pulling into traffic traction control engages in dry conditions, taking all acceleration power away. Traction indicator on dash lights up, unable to disengage with traction button. Vehicle does not stall, however there is little to no power to accelerate to appropriate driving speed. Brakes also engage anti-lock. There is no warning, except when you commit to accelerating, both instances occurred from a stop sign, about 4 minutes after starting to drive the vehicle. . Vehicle drives fine for roughly 4 minutes, then at a stop light it starts this problem and continues for several seconds, or minutes before going away. In both instances traction control was not needed, both times I would call the traction on the road excellent, meaning I couldn't spin the tires if I tried to. . I was not accelerating heavily, light to moderate acceleration from a stop sign. While it was acting up I would try both, light, heavy and even tap the brakes to try and get the car out of thinking that there is no traction. Very close to having a side impact accident because the vehicle did not give me the power to cross traffic from a stop. Imagine driving on ice, except there is no ice, and are half way in an intersection trying to limp out of the way. Bad feeling. I've lost all confidence crossing traffic at stop signs. Second time incident has happened. After 2-4 minutes car drives normal.

40 Electrical System problem of the 2003 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

Failure Date: 09/15/2007

Vehicle engine stop while driving on the road. Driving as normal, approx 30 mph when vehicle just stops. Extremely difficult to steer or brake. Perfect weather, no environmental issues--normal temperature, etc. Incident occurred twice, approx one year apart. Took into repair shop to diagnose, no code left on computer.

41 Electrical System problem of the 2007 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

Failure Date: 08/17/2007

Initial complaint was gas mileage. 12 mpg in town and 12 mpg on the highway. Dealer found no problem. Mileage continued to deteriorate, down to 7 in town and 12 on highway. This is a v6 2 wheel drive auto. Then the transmission would not shift out of park, this happened several times and I took the car in again and complained about the gas mileage and transmission problems. Dealer called and said I had 2 bad sensors on the car and could get it the next day. Customer service called 2 days later and told my wife that they had " fried" the cpu in the car. It's been almost 10 days in the shop and no repairs. Dealer says they have to have a new computer made for the car and that all cpu are " special" , not something they can get everyday. This unit controls everything on this car, if it was "fried" what did it do to the sensors on the car?.

45 Electrical System problem of the 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

Failure Date: 01/07/2004

I purchased my 2002 Explorer Sport Trac in March last year(2003). I had to wait and extra week to pick up my vehicle due to electrical problem that they swore to me was taken care of. In January 2004 my check engine light came on so I called my closest Ford dealership and they told me it would take 2 weeks for me to get an appointment to have my truck checked. Three days later my transmission blew. I called Ford customer relations and they said that it was not a problem and that I would have to pay to have my truck fixed. Three weeks and $2600. 00 later I got my truck back. Now the check engine light is still on and my 4 wheel drive does not work. I called aamco(the place Ford referred me too), and they told me that it was not the transmission but now an electrical problem that I would need to take to the dealership to have fixed but I would have to pay to have that fixed as well. My truck had 39,000 miles and was less than 2 years old and Ford is stating that they are refusing to fix anything for free. I have seen all kinds of reports of electrical and engine problems with this year and model truck and I do not agree with this.

46 Electrical System problem of the 2003 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

Failure Date: 07/28/2003

On July 28 while my wife was driving our new Explorer Sport Trac it just stop running. She started it up and it ran for about 1min then cut off again stranding her in the middle of a highway in a turn lane we reported it to Ford it took over 2 hrs for them to get a tow truck to tow the truck to the dealer it also happened on the 27th. Also the owners manual pages are not right when you look at about how to change a tire it give you a page number and it shows something else like how to change oil.
