3 Tire Blowout problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2000

Reported problem to firestone dealer in austin, mn. They indicated the tire was not in the recall and they would do nothing for us, except price new tires. The tire blew up while one of our employees was driving on an interstate. We are extremely fortunate that no one was injured. We had to ask specifically to get the tire back from the firestone dealer. We feel other firestone wilderness tires should be considered for the recall. We are not after money, but these tires are dangerous. How man more lives have to be lost in order for firestone to take responsibility. Thank you. ( dot number: p235 tire size: 70r16 1045 ).

4 Tire Blowout problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2000

I replaced my firestone wilderness at tires on 7/28/00 because of cracks on the sidewalls (just prior to recall). I showed this to a service advisor at townsend MA. Ford on 9/25/98 but was advised Ford does not warranty tires. My brother-in-law w/same truck & tires blew out the sidewalls of two tires while traveling on dirt roads going to his camp in northern maine. We both believe there is a defect with the p235/70r16 series of firestone wilderness tires. Although they do not qualify for the current recall program, nor did they exhibit the reported tread separation problem, I am convinced the "cracked sidewall" issue should be investigated. I would like to be notified if a defect is verified. ( dot number: vn08ipu496 tire size: p235/70r16 ).

6 Tire Blowout problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2000

Single vehicle accident-just prior to the accident the vehicle started to shimmy then shook violently causing the vehicle to be uncontrollable on i37. The vehicle left the highway on the right side and slammed thru brush small trees, careened off a large oak tree on the passenger side rolled three time coming to a rest upside down. The vehicle was totalled and investigation by the state police revealed the right rear tread separated from the carcass of the tire causing a blowout plus a blowout on the right front tire due to the violent manuvers prior to leaving the highway. Thanks to god, seatbelts and airbages my wife and I were not killed but bruised pretty good. We still suffer neck pains and shoulder pains on the right side. (tiresize: 235/70rx16).

Driving along highway pulled off road as tire blew. General tire blew out (p23570r15).

17 Tire Blowout problem

Failure Date: 12/30/1996

First two incidents involved tire blowouts at 50-70 mph. Each blowout appears to start as a tear along the outter edge of the tread where it meets the belts and then tore to a point in the sidewall. Essentially tearing a triangular chunk out fo the side of the tire. In reading all about current recall, it seems these tires are experiencing a similar problem. I do prescribed regular maintainence (3k) as directed by Ford and almost all my miles are highway miles. Now I have a third tire exhibiting tire peal when not 2k miles ago I had firestone representative tell me I had at least 10k miles left on all my tires. I find it incredibly hard to believe such a highly rated product as firestone produces should fail 3 times on the same vehicle in the same fashion. If you need to see the tire that's peeling I still have it. But independent tire dealers have all said treadwear would indicate longer tire life but the tire is definetly peeling of the belts. ( dot number: tire size: p235-70r16 ).
