1 Tire problem

2 Tire problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2011

Vehicle had factory original full size spare general ameri550 as with less than 400 total miles driven had tread separation, virtually all the tread came off and tire stayed inflated while driving at highway speeds. This tire had never been driven on previously and was in as new condition when I installed it just two weeks ago rim and all when I had a flat in my regular tire. After recovering the tread I found that the rubber appeared more brittle and had suffered severe wear in less than 400 miles, there were bits and pieces of rubber missing from the tread from driving on my gravel road, the other tires of different brand remain in great shape after thousands of miles. I could have lost control easily. Vehicle is a 98 f150 2wd.

3 Tire problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2009

I was traveling down the freeway when I was cutoff by another car entering from an on ramp. I hit the brakes and skidded for approximately 2-3 seconds. My mastercraft courser a/t2 235/75/16 lost large chunks of rubber from the tread. I purchased these new in fall of 2008. I believe a skid for any longer period of time may have resulted in tire deflation or unraveling of the tire at 70mph. Due to the damage of my tire I could not catch the vehicle to report it to the police.

4 Tire problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2009

I have pep boys (cooper tires) on my 1998 F-150 Ford. Futura adventure h/t p265-70r17 and with 55 thousand miles on them the radial belt has slipped on 2 of the tores and is causing a very ruff bumpy ride. The tires have plenty of tread left and should have lasted 70 thousand miles. What a shame they have not been recall for being defective. I bought the truck from a Ford dealer and they put on the new tires. I do not have a receipt. The design number is 9351 another number I took off the tire is 29122-1 and 1135.

5 Tire problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2008

Traveling on highway, front-end begin to shim. Shim became so hard speed was reduced to 45 mph. Loud pop followed by huge piece of trend coming off & being left on highway. Slowly pulled over thinking a blow-out & found front-left driver's side tire had top layer of trend gone, but no air lost.

6 Tire problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2003

While driving at 50 mph and no warning right rear tire tread separated, consumer had to pull over. Firestone, wilderness at, size p235/70r16, dot#unknown. Manufacturer had been notified.

7 Tire problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2001

While traveling at the speed limit on I-295 in jacksonville florida a bridgestone tire mounted on the left rear of my vehicle suffered a blow out. While blow outs do occur, in this instance the tread came completely of the tire prior to a very violent explosion of the tire. This caused extensive damage to my vehicle and loss of control. I have contacted bridgestone regarding this, and they have chosen to deny, and ignore the problem. The tire had plenty of tread and appeared in good condition. It was being operated at the correct pressure of 44lbs cold. I am extremely worried that bridgestone may be hideing a problem that good possably cost someone there life. (dot number: 7b73pua189 tiresize: p265/75r16).

8 Tire problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2001

Partial tread separation and subsequent blowout. (tiresize: 235/70/r16).

9 Tire problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2001

I was driving on a local highway at 70 mph and luckily my sister was driving behind me and noticed my passenger side rear tire going low. I began to merge my truck over to the emergency lane when the tire completely failed and the rear of the truck began to swerve. Once I pulled over and looked at the tire I saw a six inch gash roughly one inch from the raised firestone letering running horizontal with the seam of the tread. Another gash was observed in the same location smaller in size but on the same seam roughly twelve inches from the six inch gash. Although my tire is not on recall I would like to have my tire inspected by the NHTSA so that if there is a defect in this particular tire a warning can be submitted before other accidents or injuries occur. Thank you for your concern, jason kominoth. (dot number: w2081pt238 tiresize: p235/70r16).

10 Tire problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2001

Heading in to work on Tuesday, July 17th, I experienced a blowout on the left-rear tire of my Ford F-150 pickup truck. I was the only person in the vehicle at this particular time. I didn't think much of this event until I heard the news today about these tires being investigated by NHTSA. From my observation, this occurrence was due to a vertical rip in the side wall and not directly related tread separation. I'm looking to purchase a replacement set tires this coming weekend for the vehicle. I would like to be updated on the latest investigation status of this model tire and if I should preceed with my current purchase. A timely response would be appreciated. Thank you! (tiresize: p235/70r16).

11 Tire problem

Failure Date: 07/09/2001

I was traveling at posted speed limit of 65 mph on south-bound freeway near ashlan avenue in fresno when the problem occurred. Initially, I thought I had hit something in road and it got caught in the undercarriage. There was a violent vibration for approximately 200 feet. I immediately slowed and got in the center lane making my way off the freeway and 3-miles to my place of employment. I got out of the truck, checked for damage and found there was no tread on the tire and my left rear fender was thrashed. I can provide digital photos of the damage caused by the complete separation of the tread from the tire. (dot number: a308443367 tiresize: p235/70r16).

Consumer had a 1998, Ford, f150 pickup with orginal tires, size p235/70r16, approximate 29,000 miles. Vehicle hasn't hauled any heavy loads. Firestone was contacted, and they stated they had no obligation to replace tires.

16 Tire problem

Failure Date: 03/18/2001

I live in the florida keys where it is pretty warm but where the maximum speed limit is 55mph and mostly much less. There are few high speed (highway) miles on my tires. Having said that, I drove to port orange (daytona beach), florida to see my father who recently had surgery and on the way home (only 8 miles into the return trip) I suddenly got a vibration in the ride. I was doing the speed limit of 70mph on the interstate I-95. I pulled over and checked my tires and didn't see anything and so assumed the problem was the road. I then drove a short distance and changed lanes but the vibration didn't go away so I kept to a lower speed (around 50) and took the next exit where I pulled into a parking lot and did a detailed examination of my tires. What I found was a raised area on the tread of the front left (driver's side) tire. It was approximately 12 inches long and 2 1/2 to 3 inches wide. It was difficult to detect visually because it was not raised very high but was easy to detect by running my hands around the tread of the entire wheel. I checked all other tires and didn't notice a problem so I located (with the telephonic assistance from my parents) a firestone dealer back in port orange where I had just come from and drove there. At first the guy in charge told me I would have a 2 hour wait since he had lots of paying customers in front of me but after explaining (rather forcefully) that this was an emergency problem due to a defective product and that I had an 8 hour drive ahead of me that his product had already delayed by at least 1 1/2 hours he finally told me he would get me in the bay in an hour. At first, he was only going to replace the one tire. I insisted they inspect all the tires and it was a good thing I did. . . They found the tread on the right front was also separating and that it was also dangerous and would need to be replaced which they did. I want the remaining two replaced. (tiresize: p235/70r16).

17 Tire problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2001

Left rear tire had a split around the rim, aftermarket equipment installed at 49000 miles, tires were bridgestone fueler 684, size p265/75r16, sears replaced tires.

18 Tire problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2001

While driving on highway front left tire went flat, and then consumer replaced tire with spare. About 50 miles later, tire came completly off vehicle. Vehicle crashed in the side of road, and did some damage to vehicle. Contacted dealer, and the dealer said that they could not do anything for him. The spare wheel that was used during replacing flat tire came off due to defective coating that the vehicle manufacturer had recalled for coating breakdown and causing the lug nuts to come loose and spin off. ( the tire make and model was not given).

21 Tire problem

Failure Date: 09/04/2000

My 1 tire had started to separate exactly like the 15" wilderness at tires that have been recalled. I've waited to see if my tires would be recalled. I replaced my tires w/new goodyear tires the very next day, but I kept the old tires which the other 3 show significant deteriation. I also took pictures of all 4 tires showing the cracks along with the 1 that seperated. I feel the public should be made aware of this & that the 15" tires are not the only ones that could seperate & cost innocent people their lives. I feel alot of consumers have a false sense of security & this is should be of the upmost urgency!! sincerely, ann c rickenbach. (dot number: w208 1pt tiresize: p235/70r16).

22 Tire problem

Failure Date: 08/24/2000

During a rutine service on my f150 pickup it was indicated that the tire was spliting. I have contacted firestone for a replacement tire and they will not replace at full cost, the notified me that I will inquire the cost after being prorated. I feel this is the same thing that is happening to the recalled tire's and I feel that this also need to be recalled before someone is injuried or killed. Please notify me of the resultes of the inquire. Thank you very much, john land( dot number: tire size: p235-70r16 ).

Tread separated from steel belts and blew out causing vehicle to run into ditch( dot number: w 208 tire size: p235/70r16 ).

24 Tire problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2000

Tire had thumping sound. Took car to les schwab to look at. Said nothing wrong was found. On vacation, sound worsened. Took vehicle to Ford dealer, told me that I should go to goodyear dealer. Goodyear said that tires were "cupping" which means the cords are separating. They would not replace, tire, made me buy new ones. Said because I didn't rotate tires every 3k miles, that I voided warranty. I checked with Ford, and the tire rotation isn't a warranty must, only a reccommendation. Should not void warranty. I called goodyear and they told me they could do nothing. I just want the warranty to be honored. ( dot number: tire size: p235/15 ).

25 Tire problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2000

Firestone dealer told me that my size tire was not included in recall. The dealer replaced a tire before the recall because it was defect in the same way as the recalled size. I can assure you that the problem exists in the p235/70r-16 because I saw it. Please contact me if you want further information. The recall should include p235/70r16 and possibly other sizes( dot number: tire size: 235/70r-16 ).

30 Tire problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2000

At 15,000 miles all the tires are worn down past 2/32th". Warranty states that there warrantied to 6 years, 60,000 before the tread would wear down that bad. Ive been to numerous Ford and firestone dealers but none would honor the warranty. Ive also located cracks in the treads. I still have all 4 tires in my possession since ive replaced the originals. At 15,000 miles the vehicle was only 1 year and 9 months old. Ford and firestone admitted that there "might" be a problem but pawned it off on each other. (dot number: vn08 tiresize: p235/70r16).

31 Tire problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2000

Tires vibrate at highway speeds after a 25 mile trip or more . I had the truck to the dealer and they found no trouble with the truck . They said it was the tires I had the truck at a firestone store and all I got was a run around. ( dot number: tire size: p2357016 ).

32 Tire problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2000

The tread area of the tire was like foamrubber. I told the manager at the firestone store the tire was defective and he laughed and said I did something wrong ,and they weren,t having any problems. I asked for a discount he said no way. Like a fool I ennt and bought 2 more of the same tire. I e mailed firestone and told them I thought they had defective tires , they told me to go to a firestone store , and talk to a manager. Hell I did that, it didn,t do me any good, they knew they had a poor product and just blew me out the door. ( dot number: tire size: p23570r16 ).

33 Tire problem

Failure Date: 10/24/1999

The first incident with an occurence date of 10/9/99 was when I located a lump in the left side front tire. While driving at slow speeds the steering wheel would move side to side as the lump or raised portion of the wheel would come into contact with the road. At higher speeds it felt like the tire was out of balance. I finally located the lump and had the tire replaced. I was informed at the time the belts had seperated. The tire was replaced but only after the price had been prorated according to the manufacturers warranty. The second incident was much more serious. While returning home from the northern part of the state the tread completely seperated on the right front tire. I was travelling on a highway known as the cimmaron turnpike. The speed limit on the turnpike is 75 mph. I noticed a vibration and then the whole tire let go. The tread stripprd off and tore up the whole inside of the fender as it continued to go around. It tore out the inner fender well liner . It looked exactly like the tires being shown on the news reports concerning firestone. After these two incidents these tires were replaced under the manufacturers warranty but only after they had been prorated. I replaced the two rear tires in April of 2000 prior to taking a trip because I thougt they might do the same thing. ( dot number: tire size: 235/70sr16 ).

34 Tire problem

Failure Date: 08/15/1999

My question is about safety for myself and any person with me in regards to these tires, although they have not failed as some have holding tire pressure and having to switch them more than any other tire I have owned to avoid thumping and uneven tire wear . It comes back to this , uncertain about safety and what possibly could happen has prompted this query. The latest report from NHTSA is to replace them and wait for a decision , I don't have the moneyto do this , your answer will be appreciated . Thank you--- herbert e summers( dot number: 104 s tire size: p235/70r16 ).

35 Tire problem

Failure Date: 06/14/1999

It was about 8:00 am and I had driven less than 10 miles on a paved 2-lane road. The tire didn't seem to blow out, it just disentigrated. I did not have anything in tha back of the truck and the tires were inflated at 35psi. I haven't trusted them since. (tiresize: 235/70r16).
