I was driving from santa barbara to lompoc along highway 1 around 6:30 p. M. When I first smelled smoke thinking there was a brush fire, but quickly it started to smell like electrical burning. Looking around the truck for the smell while driving I looked out the side mirror to make sure no one was behind me, only to see sparks or small embers flying from my truck onto the highway. Pulling over to the side I jumped out of the truck and pulled my tool box away from the bed to see if something in the back bed was on fire. I could only see flames underneath between the bed and the cab. Fearing explosion I ran to call 911 from my cell phone. Within minutes my truck was engulfed in flames. Nothing left but a big pile of metal. Tools, and golf clubs, gone.

I am experiencing a serious surge problem with my vehicle. I have experienced the surge 5 times since I first purchase the vehicle over 18 months ago, and I have experienced it twice in the past two months. I most recently was nearly involved in a rear-end collision and I am worried about the consequences shall this surge occur during any extremely hypothetical situation, such as striking a pedestrian. I am a member of a Ford enthusiast website and there are many other individuals with the same vehicle who are also experiencing the same defect. I own a 2001 Ford f150 harley davidson and I am concerned for my safety and the safety of those who I share the road with. Please help me get Ford to address this concern.

The truck continued to accelerate uncontrollably after I got it back from dealer. I brought it back to the dealer on Feb 22nd. The dealership determined that there was a problem with the thottle body. Although, they will not fix it because "Ford doesn't know how to fix it" according to tom glansman at saxon Ford. This problem is extremely dangerous, the brake fail to stop the truck when it has this problem. Only turning off the engine can stop the truck, which compromises the brake and steering systems.
