Vibration at 45 to 55. When cold strong jerk in rear end area and sometimes on turn to right. Also comes in at times when going to passing gear. It is a differential issue more than a drive shaft issue. All u joints are tight. No imbalance in drive shaft. Have gone to special teflon gear oil. . . This appears to be design and possible safety issue.
Tl-the contact owns a 2004 Ford f150. The contact stated that while the driver drove out a parking area a loud noised emitted from under the vehicle. The contact inspected the vehicle and found the driveshaft had fractured in half and caused damaged to the fuel tank and muffler. The vehicle was towed to the contact home. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure and current mileage was 146,000. Li.
Waiting at stop light proceeded on green all of a sudden big banging noise underside of truck stopped in traffic by traffic light looked under truck to see drive shaft broke in half call 911 to help direct traffic called tow CO. To tow vehicle to repair shop head mechanic confirmed drive shaft broke in half due to rust. Drive shaft cracked in half at the middle and not at the u joints head mechanic confirmed to me and also the dealership where I bought the truck said its the first for them of the rust and breakage. My issue is that I had a hard time finding a drive shaft and was told nothing in stock they had to make one special. I had to pay the price also was glad I was not driving on the hwy with my grand kids. My issue is that I believe the drive shaft was faulty not a wear and tear issue like Ford customer service said. Further more they said they cannot do anything because my truck warranty expired.
Waiting at a stop light than proceeded to go when light turned green all of a sudden big banging and grinding noise coming from under truck looked under and sees drive shaft broke in half police were called to help direct traffic and called tow truck! mechanic of the repair shop told me why in his report that the drive shaft broke he said the drive shaft had rusted in the middle to cause it to break in half!! my safety issue is I bought the truck because its big I drive my grand kids in it now can you imagine what would happen on a highway at 55 mph!!! everyone I spoke told me they never heard of a drive shaft break and rust like that especially its only a 2004 model!! can you help me on this issue I have with Ford! thank you. . . . . . .
2004 Ford f150 with numerous problems. Now at 82000 miles the transmission is slipping badly. The transmission slips when accelerating and the engine revs until the transmission kicks in. I am afraid when it decides to jump in gear it is going to cause an accident. From what I have read on the internet many other f150 owners are experiencing the same problem with the transmission. Our truck was purchased new but has been in the shop repeatedly for brake problems (7 times), tire problems (2 times), rear end (2 times), broken drive shaft (2 times), electrical (1 time), electrical is starting to have problems now too. We replaced a 98 Mazda truck with this 04 f150 because we thought the f150 would be safe and reliable. The 98 Mazda, sold to my brother-in-law, is still running great. What a mistake!!!!.
Officially logging a well known problem with the 2004 f150 driveline. It has done this to the point of transmission replacement due to wear on the shaft. The driveshaft is not serviceable at all and was never lubed from the factory causing binding on the slip yokes which in turn causes swing bearing wear, u joint failure and to the point of transmission stub shaft wear ultimately causing failure. There seriously needs to be accountability for these due to the severity and liability. We owned the truck new and have driven with this problem until now. I hope to see a recall soon as tsbs are no help to the customer and most dealers do not even know that these parts are unserviceable. As a life long customer, thumbs down on Ford to allow this to go on.
2004 Ford f150 supercab 4x. Intermittent violent vibration in driveline. Dealership has replaced rear end, driveshaft, checked front end, tires, etc. Usually small vibration becomes violent at times. Can not duplicate at will. Dealership now says nothing wrong. When violent shake occurs must stop vehicle to stop shake. I feel that it is a safety issue. Has shaken violently 6 times in about 6000 miles.
Vehicle has drive train vibration & rear end howl sense I test drove it Aug 2004. I pointed out the drive train vibration to my salesman and he said it " probably lost a wheel balance weight". A friend went into the same dealership ( lindquist Ford) and was told the same thing after they have acknowledged there are tsbs on this problem and after my truck was in & out of their shop numerous times. So far the tires and wheels have been forced balance, drive shaft replaced, cab mounts replaced, transmission tail shaft end play checked & rear end replaced. None have resolved the issues. The service manager told me Ford has identified the automatic transmission as the problem. We preceeded to arrange replacement and I insisted on a new not a rebuilt one. He got back with me and said the new Ford rep he was dealing with doesnt replace transmissions ! mine suddenly. . . . . . . . . . You guessed it. . Its within specifications !! the dealership management wont return my calls. Ford wont be shamed into fixing these problems unless/ until the media gets involved.
The vehicle has been to the dealer 3 times. They didn't know what was wrong with it. There was bad vibration ,like a tie rod end going bad or the wheel coming off. They replaced all the tires , and put a new rim on the passenger's side, and put in a new driveshaft. This started around June 15, 2005. The vehicle was going back to the dealers for the fourth time. Haven't contacted the manufacturer but got information on the lemon law.

After several trips to the dealer about serious vibration problems in my vehicle, the dealer replaced the drive shaft. This corrected the problem. Others have had a similar problem. My concern is that vehicles which continue to be driven without replaced drive shafts may be subject drive shaft fatigue and failure in the future.
Been to dealer 4 times with complaints of vibration. Replaced tires, drive shaft, rotors & cluthes in rear end. Still had vibration & returned to dealer ony to hear "we can not duplicate the problem". The vibration occurs about every 500-1000 miles.
Bought my 2004 f 150 2wd from dealer in ok. 5800mi have a vibration @ 38-42mph and 58-62mph. Have taken to the dealer 4 times in which they have replaced the driveshaft, reclocked the driveshaft on second visit, rebalances and rotated the tires but still have the peroblem in which they mentioned will be acceptable. It isn't normal.
2004 F-150 vibration issue. This is a real and serious issue. I took my truck in for a daignosis on the vibration. The dealer said they narrowed it down to the driveshaft. I waited 3 weeks for a replacement due to the fact that the driveshaft was on back order. After replacement of the driveshaft, dealer informed me that it had not cured the problem. I was told that Ford was looking for a fix and they would get back to me when they figure it out. After picking up my truck from the dealer I took it on the freeway to test it out, took to about 55 mph and applied the brakes,I felt a serious vibration from the steering wheel. I called the dealer back and notified them of the unsafe handling of the truck. I was told that the truck was safe to drive. But no guarantees!!! I carry my children in this vehicle. Something has to be done about this issue. People's lives are at stake. Remember the explorer and the deaths due to rollover!!! thnk you for your time.
Had horrible vibration at highway speeds, after 6 or so visits they replaced the driveshaft. Now at idle warm or cold I have a constant shutter, and now a steering wheel nibble has developed. Completely dissappointed in this truck. This was my first new vehicle,a shame it turned out like this!.
Truck has rearend vibration @55-60 mph. Truck also has steering wheel shake at highway speed (above 45 mph). Ford states that they no they have a problem and are working on a fix.
Continuous vibrations in 2004 f150 after five times to dealer for repairs. Drive shaft has been replaced but still have vibrations. According to radar and gps the speedometer is incorrect up to 3 miles per hour clocking example. Operating at 55 mph speedometer showing 58 to 58 1/2 mph.
Consumer noticed that after the windshield wipers went off the front windshield became blurry. This caused poor visibility to the driver. Vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic replaced the windshield three times. However, the problem recurred. Consumer also had concern with vibration under the vehicle. Dealer found that the vibration is coming from the drivershaft, which was replaced by the dealer.
Developed differential chatter relatively soon after purchase. Carried back to dealer and complained. They replaced the drive shaft and universals, said problem was corrected. This did not last no more than 6-8 months before chatter came back, think they also replaced differential oil also. Carried back to dealer for repair, they claimed nothing was wrong. Disgruntled with dealer, stated I would never purchase another Ford truck again. Ten years have passed, to the day almost, chatter just as bad if not worse. Changed differential oil 2 times since, seems to help for a while. Do not pull a boat, pull a tractor, travel trailer or do any type of construction work with this truck. It is driven to work and back and occasionally taken on highway trips to beach and back, 500 mile round trip. Truck is pampered so that it will last, not driven hard well maintained, driven by adult male, basically in perfect shape other than differential. Do not understand why there has not been a recall with this problem. Have read about many others with the same issue. These are good trucks with one problem, the differential, that seems to me to be a factory issue. You would think Ford would step-up to the plate to fix this problem. Have been a Ford fan for many years, own a 2013 fusion now also. Would like to see action taken to remedy this problem. Dates and mileage approximate.
