1 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2023

Pulled out of driveway and made it 50 feet and whole truck shut down right on the road. Could not make the vehical restart no click or anything dead right where it stopped. Could of caused an accident. Had to have truck taken to a shop they took a week to find out that the electrical fuel system harness had a dead short in it. So no fuel going to the feul injectors or to the key to start the vehical. Still have head lights and breaks and radio. Just no way to restart the vehical. They checked thw wires and after unplugging many wires to the fuel system and retesting it started. Left with the truck a day later the same thing happen but this time I had to jump a curb to avoid an accident and coasted into a parking lot. I got out and wiggled a few of the wires and the truck started back up. I made it back to where I was staying only 2 blocks up the road and it died in the parking lot in a stall. That has been over 3 weeks and cant find the parts to fix it even by talking to Ford shops. There not able to get this harness due to they have been discontinued. . . Truck has low miles on it and now I dont know what to do. This is my daily driver for work. This shouldnt of happened with the wires being wrapped even the mechanic who has his own shop but also works for Ford as a mechanic he has seen this before and now having problems getting parts. I hope you can help with this matter. Due to its very disturbing to myself when its in good shape and was taken care of and now cant get parts. .

2 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2019

Transmission clunks. Truck stalls in traffic because of throttle body problems. It has been an on going problem over the past several years.

3 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2018

Have owned this truck bought new, 2005. Have used sparingly only 15k + miles. Over the years I have experianced a number of occasions when it tried to accellerate when I went to brake. First thought it a quirk or floor mats. Recently nearly trashed a parked car while backing ito a parking space. Continued to accellerate dispite standing on brake. There is no longer any doubt that this is a problem with sua, sudden unintended accelleration, that Ford has never admitted. I have made sure I am off the gas pedal and the floor mat has been removed. This happens when the vehicle is moving and when trying to brake!.

4 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2018

Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph the exhaust pipe had broke off the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who discovered that the entire sub frame of the vehicle had rusted and corroded including the damaged exhaust pipe. The exhaust pipe was repaired but the sub frame was not. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but the local dealer was not. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 70,000. Jft.

5 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/17/2018

Vehicle stalls and or surges and has dead spots. After many attempts to solve the issue it still persists. Looking on line it is a common problem with this vehicle. 2005 -2008 f 150 5. 4. It is especially dangerous when towing a trailer my wife has almost got into accidents a couple of times while towing a horse trailer and is now afraid to drive the truck. Spoke to Ford but no real response. I think this issue needs to be looked at further especially when considering people do tow with their trucks and it amplifies this issue. Thanks mario .

6 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/07/2017

Upon accelerating while moving the vehicle jumps. Sometimes once, sometimes several times before kicking in.

7 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 08/11/2017

Purchased Ford f150 from old saybrook Ford, Feb. 16. The truck has the 5. 4 engine which has numerous complaints of engine failure. Driving on route 1 when truck eccelorates or loses power. When we bought the truck the chain guide was broke and eating through the case. Spark plugs get stuck in engine or propel them selves through the truck hood. Dangerous engine to have on road. I owe 8000. 00 on a truck that now needs 4-6000 worth of work.

8 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2017

The contact owns a 2005 Ford F-150. While driving various speeds, the vehicle lost power and misfired, and smoke could be seen coming from the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who initially diagnosed a fuel leak from the exhaust. Upon further investigation, the mechanic stated that injector number 7 was not closing correctly and causing the fuel to enter the cylinder. As a result, the motor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The dealer stated that the VIN was excluded from a recall on the injectors. The recall details were not provided. The failure mileage was approximately 76,000.

9 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2016

While driving 75 on a toll road the engine went into engine fail safe mode, I lost all power and almost wrecked into oncoming traffic trying to get to the shoulder, I went to a mechanic and they replaced the throttle body, 3 days later same thing, I was told this is a common problem on this motor 5. 4, why is there not a recall on this ??.

10 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2016

Truck began ticking very loudly, then began a knocking noise, and now the engine shakes the truck when idling. Cam phasers broke apart causing damage to the timing chain. Sudden loss of power to the engine as well as inability to maintain speed while ascending an incline is frequent. The loss of speed and power has caused us several close-call accidents. Truck will simply not accelerate while pressing the gas pedal. Additionally, it also feels like the truck cannot catch gears while in motion.

11 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2016

Known issue with fuel injectors caused premature engine failure at 45k mi. Too much fuel when compressed and ignited blew the piston apart. Ford replaced engine. 80k miles later similar problems and recommendation is another engine. Two 5. 4l engines with less than 130k overall miles is absolutely unacceptable. Web searches say there is current litigation in progress over these 5. 4l engines. I'm making a formal complaint that the basis of the lawsuit has merit. Ford has already settled a suit over the spark plugs for these 5. 4l but the problems with these engines goes much deeper. I'm thankful my engine failures happened without any additional incident.

12 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2015

The contact owns a 2005 Ford F-150. The contact stated that a strong fuel odor was present in the vehicle occasionally. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 124,000.

13 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2015

I purchased my 2005 f150 with a 5. 4l trinitron engine used in 2010. I completed all regular scheduled maintenance using the recommended products, most of it done in Ford dealerships. This 5. 4l engine is a poor design and should be recalled. It has numerous problems. I had a safety inspection done at a Ford dealership and it passed even though it had a ticking sound in the engine and I had hesitation and loss of power. Replace spark plugs, I had already replaced the transmission at 98,000 miles! this engine is a piece of junk! Ford needs to stand behind its' "built Ford tough" trucks and make this right. I cant enjoy my truck!!!.

14 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/09/2015

I purchased my 2005 Ford F-150 right out of the show in 2005 and first began have jerking issues 6 month later a mechanic then told me that it was related to the fuel injectors. Since that time I had to replace the transmission twice in 2008, a timing chain and bent rods in 2014 and currently another timing bent rods and debri from the oil pan. All caused from the initial faulty fuel injector issues continuing from less than one year after the original purchase in 2005. I've sent over $9500 in mechanic cost to date.

15 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/13/2012

My fuel control module shorted out which caused my pcm to be erased. It seems to be a common problem after researching it, but no recall has been issued. My pregnant wife was driving my truck and lost all power. This resulted in a near accident due to having no power steering and less brake control. If this is such a common problem with the placement of the control module why has this not been recalled. $1000 later I hope this doesn't happen again.

16 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2010

I own a 2005 Ford F-150 which I received a letter from Ford stating that my fuel injectors were given a defect only extended warranty to 150,000 miles. I have had a few injectors replaced since the letter because of defect. . I. E white smoke from exhaust and stutter of engine while driving. Right after my last replacement of a fuel injector my cadillitic converter was giving a bad odor. . Afterwards I had a diagnostic checked and the outcome was a bad converter. After several forums I have read I have noticed that several. . . . Several. . People have cadillitic converter problems after the replacement of fuel injectors. . Some even having two or three replaced within just a few thousand miles and after having another fuel injector replaced. Is the fuel injector problem a problem for the converter. . Its a big coinsidence that so many have had the same problems after replacing defective fuel injectors. .

17 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2010

As I was driving down a major highway in south carolina, I felt like my transmission might be slipping in my 2005 Ford F-150. I took it immediately to a local and reputable mechanic who tested the transmission and subsequently informed me that it was the engine, specifically the spark plugs. In their investigation it was determined that 4 of my 8 spark plugs were broken. They had to use a special tool, developed by Ford just for this "problem", in order to extract the broken plugs. The mechanic stated that Ford should have to recall these or forced to reimburse consumers for the expensive repairs due to a design error. Upon researching on-line, I was totally amazed at how many and how much a problem people have had with these plugs and the consumer is paying for their defect. This is not right. The total cost for this repair for me was $358. 55. Tell me how many other cars or trucks require this type of repair to replace spark plugs? I would l like for your agency to investigate the number of repairs consumers have had to make because of this defect. [xxx] SC drivers license no. [xxx] VIN [xxx] thank you for investigating this defect. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

18 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2006

The coil packs and plugs have been changed on different times and the vehicle still has the same problems. Ford has to find a better solution to fix these ongoing issues so the customer does not have to keep paying all this money for the same problems over and over again. Engine lost power on several occasions and shakes when idling. Paint on front of vehicle started peeling off. All service work has been conducted a t a Ford dealership since the vehicle was purchased except for today with (2) more coil packs had to be installed at a local garage. This is apparently a big problem and something has to be done about it or Ford will find good customers going to other vehicle brands.
