I have had two window regulators fail and the windows come crashing down unexpected while driving at high speed in Ford f150 and not touching the window controls. The windows will not go back up and have had to be fixed. I live in northern climate with bad weather and the conditions are dangerous to drive in with a window down and children in the back seat.
Power windows devices & controls - window regulator failure my wife and I drove my 2005 Ford f150 to pick up my son up from kindergarten and while driving home, going approximately 25 mph during a severe florida thunder storm we heard a loud pop, then crackle which sounded like it came from the drivers side of the truck. I pulled over in the storm to see if anything struck the door. Since I saw nothing I pulled back onto the road and continued to drive home, then all of a sudden the front drivers side window abruptly flew down into the door and dissappeared. My 5 year old son who was sitting directly behind me on the driver's side in his car seat, was terrified, crying and wet from rain flying in the window, we were 5 minutes from home and pulled into the garage. My son and I were soaked and all three of us were shaken. I have recently found out the issue was caused by a window regulator failure. This could have caused an accident and is highly dangerous, especially with a small child in the car. When researching the issue further I found that there are numerous complaints from consumers, however Ford has not responded, nor addressed this extremely hazardous issue. Currently my window is taped with a bag to cover the window hole as we don't have the funds to fix this issue since both wife and I were laid off recently. This issue is not just about the cost it's a safety concern that needs to be reviewed. Is it a faulty part on the manufacturer's side, is it a Ford engineering problem? what does it take for a recall? do individuals need to be hurt or worse die in order for a recall. Shame on Ford for letting an issue like this receive multiple consumer complaints with no action or resolution. This is not normal wear and tear.
2005 Ford F-150 had left and right side window regulators fail while vehicle was traveling. The right side failed first then the left side failed a few days later. The window dropped completely when the regulators failed.
My complaint is in regards to the window regulators of my 2005 Ford f150 supercrew 4x4. I have now had the front driver and rear right regulators fail due to no fault of my own. The rear right failure occurred last fall (August 2009) while going through a car wash with my family in the vehicle. Without any warning, my daughter started screaming as her window fell inside the door. Thankfully, there were no injuries, but I did have wet children and wet interior. Of course, the carwash denied any wrongdoing and suggested I contact Ford. In doing so, Ford stated that NHTSA did not issue a recall, so they were not required to fix/repair at their own cost. Not having the funds available, I tore the door panel open, slid the window back up in the track, and wedged a piece of pvc pipe to keep the glass in place. Not a great solution. . . But much better than what Ford offered to do. The most recent incident occurred Saturday, July 11, 2010, mid-afternoon. My family and I were traveling to a community function. While driving, I heard what sounded like a shotgun go off next to my ear. Our initial thought was we hit something on the road or an animal ran into us. I stopped and got out of the truck, but did not see any damage. At that point I didn't know what to think. We continued on to our function without any further issues. When we arrived back at the vehicle later in the afternoon, I started to roll down the windows while the a/c coiled off and thud. . . The front driver window fell down. I knew exactly what happened. Tore into the door when we got home and found that the window regulator pulley failed in this window also. So, I pushed the glass back up and wedged another piece of pvc pipe. Aside from the ringing in my ear the remainder of the afternoon from the "gunshot", there were no injuries. From my research on the internet, this appears to be a very common problem that Ford refuses to address. I would appreciate your help and research in this matter.
2005 Ford F-150 window regulator failure - driving down the interstate heard a loud pop on the driver side I thought something hit my truck, the window fell into to the door. Estimated cost to fix $420. 00 + tax. After seeing the thousands of complaints on the internet something needs to be done. Recall!! recall!!.
Driver window regulator failed and window dropped into the door. No way to get window closed without removal of door panel. Very unsafe to drive with no window during inclimate weather. There needs to be a complete review of all the fails of this single part.
While driving my 2005 Ford F-150 the passenger side window suddenly and loudly slammed down into the door panel causing extreme distraction to the driver. The power window regulator had an internal failure and failed to be able to support the window any longer. The power window regulator required replacement.
I own a 2005 Ford f150 supercrew pickup. While driving I tried to lower the driver-side front window. As soon as I touched the power window switch the window fell all the way down into the door and became inoperable. After taking the inner door panel off I could see a mess of snarled cable inside the door. The local Ford dealer wants over $400 to fix this problem. The service tech at the dealer admitted this was a problem he sees regularly and from what I have read on the internet I should expect to see the other 3 window regulators fail as well. This could be a safety issue as the window drops quickly and unexpectedly. The window could break or startle the driver enough to cause and accident.
2005 F-150 window regulator fails without warning. Had one replaced under manufacturer's warranty and another failed at 48k miles. Seems to be a common trend amongst Ford vehicles. I understand that this problem is not just limited to the 2005 models. Also appears in expeditions. This is a serious risk for theft, as well as a danger to the occupants. Most recent failure occurred while driving. It was raining when the window fell, making it difficult to drive. Could have easily resulted in an accident.
Within the last four months (shortly after the 3 year warranty expiration) three of four power window regulators have failed in my F-150. The dealer indicates that this is one of the most common repair actions for F-150's. This is clearly a well documented and complained about product deficiency that is also a major safety hazard because when the failures occur the window drops into the door panel. My most recent failure which occurred last week was during a serious rain storm with my child sitting at the rear passenger window when it failed and fell into the door panel.
Both front power window regulators failed within 60k miles without any input. The loud bang when they fail could cause driver distraction.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford f150. The contact stated that the window regulators failed and caused the window to spontaneously fall into the door. He took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the regulator needed to be replaced at the cost of $300. In addition, the technician replaced the failed component with a new regulator of the same design. The vehicle is currently being repaired. The contact called the manufacturer and they acknowledged the failure; however, they would not assume responsibility since there was no recall. The failure mileage was 38,000 and current mileage was 46,000.
