The contact owns a 2010 Ford F-150. While driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle started to vibrate. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road, shut off, and restarted; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was driven to the dealer (brandon Ford, 9090 e adamo dr, tampa, FL 33619) where it was diagnosed that the torque converter was faulty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 186,000.
Ford f150 4. 6lt stx lost all power at 45mph. Limped the truck home with the fear of getting run over. Truck is less then 5yrs old with 63k miles on it. If my wife would have been driving I'm sure she would have been hit from behind as I had to take action to keep from being in an accident. Dealership said the transmission failed. I had the vehicle to two different dealers for a stalling issue. To me it felt as if the torque converter was staying locked up stalling the engine. Both dealers were unable to diagnose the problem. This problem has been going on since new in 2010. Now that the transmission has failed 3k miles outside the warranty Ford will not do a thing to help but offer a little money towards a 4600$ repair. This in my opinion is a safety issue. If I was not a technician for over 15yrs and a techline adviser for another car company for over 7 I might not have known what was going on. Ford will not stand by their product and rectify this issue and is passing on this failure to me. This is something that needs to be addressed as my wife since it stalled on her will no longer drive the truck even if I get it repaired. Lack of customer service and loyalty by Ford motor company!.
In addition to the 2013 Ford f150 transmission recall, I have a 2010 f150 that had the same transmission problem where the transmission shifts to first gear at speed. I was going 70 mph with my wife and daughter on a virginia interstate highway when mine dropped from 6th to 1st gear in August 2011. Fortunately I was able to shift into neutral and safely get it off the road, but this transmission problem has been going on longer than the current recall reports. I feel this is a safety issue that Ford should address, since my transmission still has a hard shift from time to time, so I don't feel the issue is resolved. They have replaced the megatronics unit (twice), and the torque converter, but it is still the same transmission and drive train which I still feel is not 100% fixed. I see now that the recall might be expanded to include 2011 and 2012 f150s, but I feel it should be expanded to include those 2010 models too, since I had the same issue with my 2010 f150.
Transmission or torque converter causes the truck to shakes and shudder. It also down shifts and is a kicking feeling. At times feeling like someone has rear ended ya. Throws head back it's so violent. The shaking and shuddering typically starts at around 38-54 mph. Then for no reason at different speeds up to 80 mph. Anytime there is a uphill grade it constantly downshifts and shakes even more. The shudders are so violent the mirrors can't be used to see anything. I can feel it in my teeth. This happens on city streets and on the highway. Have taken in several times for this problem since it was new. Even when talking on bluetooth phone- others have said they could hear it over the phone. Ford has refused and never fixed this problem and told me this is normal for the transmission to protect itself. What bs. I've never had a vehicle that did this on purpose. There are thousands of complaints about this from before 2010. Why isn't my year model truck covered and those before mine?? now there's a recall for this very thing for 2011-2013 year models. My truck is dangerous and a pain in the butt to drive. Ford needs to fix all of the vehicles produced with this problem not just 3 years. 🤬 I'm doing this on my phone. I have records and if needed you can come drive with me and see for yourself. Sure hope me or one of my family members doesn't get hurt driving this truck because of this crap. Sorry, really pissed that Ford is going to continue to get away with screwing folks over. Happens from 2010- to present. (2019).
At apx 10,00 miles on my 2010 f150 I started getting a clunk/bump in the driveline when stopping and starting. Sometimes it was worse when turning. I am a 20 year vetran mechanic with prior Ford dealer expierience. I have not been able to get this issue resolved by the local servicing Ford dealer vanbortel Ford. It has been in many many times for the same complaint. In the life of this vehicle it has had an engine replaced at 20,00 the torque convertor at 25,000 the driveshaft at apx 35,000 the rear springs at 37,000 and the issue still persist's. It is in now on 12/26/2012 for a trans leak, poor engine/trans performance and reduced ecomomy from reflashing the trans several times as well as the same clunk/bump when starting and stopping. My concern is that the unkown defect causing clunk/bump could cause a safety issue by locking up or failing at speed.
2010 Ford F-150 supercrew develops a significant shutter/vibration in the transmission when the vehicle is at 1100 rpm and speed is 30 - 36 mph. Ford dealership replaced the torque converter at 8000 miles, vehicle now has 16,000 miles and the same issue is occurring. Dealer verified that torque converter is the issue. Dealer contacted Ford, and Ford states," do not replace the torque converter and that at the current time they are aware of the problem and attempting to come up with an engineering solution. ".
