Power steering failed at highway speed while being driven by my wife, almost causing a serious crash. Ford has known about this problem for years and perhaps someone will be killed before a recall is initiated. An issue as dangerous as this should be addressed immediately, whether it is by Ford, voluntarily or mandated by the proper governing authority.
Pulling into a parking lot, just after traveling on the 65 mph highway, my steering wheel locked and kicked back hard injuring my left thumb. The steering wheel would not turn at all. The truck remained operational otherwise but the steering remained locked. A warning message appeared saying "power steering failure". Had to have the truck towed to the dealership. I have research the hundreds, if not more, complaints and safety issues with the F-150 steering and this needs to be addressed by Ford as this will, if not, cause serious bodily harm. This is the last Ford I will ever own, period. They do not stand by their inept electronic components and customers are paying the price.
Tl the contact owns a 2013 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 70 mph, the power steering failed to operate as needed with the power steering assistance fault and advanced track warning messages displayed on the instrument panel. Due to the failure, the contact pulled over and restarted the vehicle however, the same failure recurred less than two miles later. The contact drove to his destination and called crown Ford (256 swain st, fayetteville, nc 28303, (910) 600-6598) where an appointment was scheduled to have the vehicle repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 136,000.
While driving power steering shut off and got a warning on instrument panel stating power steering assist failure. Stopped vehicle turned off engine, restarted and problem went away. Later in day while on highway same issue occurred causing very difficult to steer and control vehicle. This vehicle equipped with electronic steering assist and not hydraulic.
An electrical problem in the epas unit has resulted in the loss of power steering in my 2013 Ford F-150. Vehicle has 63,000 miles and has no accidents and has not been subject to abnormal driving conditions. The problem presented itself when the weather became cold during the fall of 2019. When outside temperatures dropped below 65 degrees and I started my vehicle I received a "power steering assist failure" warning and the vehicle did not have power steering. Testing over a 4 week period as the outside temperature fluctuated between 40-80 degrees allowed me to see the connection to the power steering failure and the outside temperature. Additionally, when the outside temperature was close to, but did not exceed 65 degrees. I could start my vehicle and drive it around, the heat from the engine would warm the unit enough to allow it to work. All I needed to do was turn the vehicle off and then back on and the power steering would work. After reading about all the recalls Ford has issued related to their epas unit I believe there is systemic problem with the part. Additionally, this part cannot be serviced and requires a full replacement. Part cost is $1500 plus 2-3 hours of labor. Putting the total cost to repair at $1800 - $1900 in my area.
The message "power steering assist fail" message appeared on the instrument panel and was very hard to drive vehicle and to negotiate turns to get home from work on Friday evening, 6/7/2019. Had vehicle towed to the local Ford dealer on Saturday and have not heard back.
Service advancetrac, power steering failure, hill descent control fault lights all come on and power steering has stopped working. Previously these would come on as soon as the trucks started, lights come one, shut truck off, restarted truck and lights went off. This has happened twice. Third time lights came on while driving and power steering completely went out while traveling down interstate.
Intermittent power steering assist failure, results in a difficult to control, and potentially deadly situation. First happened at appx 20 mph while cornering, and momentary exit of lane into oncoming traffic until able to wrestle vehicle back into lane. I was on a curvy country road.
Steering is binding up during turns, both right and left. Feels like power steering has failed. Wheel does not return to center but must be steered back to center. No warning lights present.
Steering is binding up during turns, both right and left. Feels like power steering has failed. Wheel does not return to center but must be steered back to center. No warning lights present took to dealer told me steering gear assembly needs replaced and there has been alot of recalls for this but my truck has not got the recall on this problem this is very dangerous and Ford needs to fix this problem before someone gets hurt or killed do to it. . .
Wife made sharp left hand turn and power steering locked up! cleared and was fine ,for few days I was driving make left hand turn got, complete power steering assist failure! plus many other faults. Got to local shop was told was able to clear most faults, but not the assist fault! has to go to dealer being told it will cost over 2 thousand dollars . Called Ford was told out of warranty! wife could of been killed! Ford wont do anything!!.
Complete power assist steering failure: while driving along a city street, I experienced complete loss of power steering, causing the driver (myself) to virtually lose all directional control. . I could only control the vehicle steering and bring it to a stop by using extreme physical strength to manually steer the vehicle. . If my wife had been driving at the time of occurrence she "would not have been able to manually steer the vehicle" and, would have almost certainly lost steering control. . . I had the vehicle towed to a Ford dealership, who diagnosed that the steering rack needed to be replaced. . . . Upon researching this fault, I have found clear evidence that this is a known problem with the 2013 Ford f150 and subsequent years. . . Ford issued a recall on the 2014 f150 for this fault, but not for 2013 vehicles. . . Loss of power assist steering while driving this size of vehicle is an extremely dangerous condition to find yourself in and, may have already been the cause of accidents!! my opinion is that Ford are very much aware of this steering fault, due to the fact that they issued a partial recall and, they want all old steering racks that are replaced, sent back to them! I requested the old steering rack that was being replaced, be returned to me. . . However, Ford indicated a $400 core charge would be billed to me to for keeping the old part! Ford needs to issue a broader recall regarding this fault on f150's before more people are injured or killed! this is a serious safety issue.
61,000 miles power steering failed in motion fault on steering angle sensor not sold had to replace whole steering rack $2000. 00 now in motion transmission fault code p7031 first gear sync will not shift from second to first without bucking. Dealer says transmission needs to be taken apart thousands of dollars and 1500 miles out of warranty.
While driving my vehicle on a city street (speed limit 45mph), and while in a turn, my power steering abruptly failed causing me to almost crash. I was able to recover and continue steering using my body weight to assist in steering which was very difficult. The power steering would then begin to work again, however it would continue to fail intermittently, suddenly, and without warning. I was able to get an appointment at my local Ford dealership where they informed me that my power steering unit itself was fine, however it had a faulty sensor that was causing the unit to intermittently fail. I was told that the sensor was unreachable and that they were unable to replace it, so I would have to purchase and have them install a brand new power steering unit. This cost me around $2000 to replace a power steering unit that was designed with an irreplaceable sensor.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the power steering failed to function and the eps warning indicator flashed. The vehicle was not diagnosed by a dealer, but it was inspected by an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 73,000.
After starting from a stop sign, attempted to make a left turn. The power steering failed, a fail was annunciated on the instrument cluster, steering was extremely difficult, the engine remained running. Drove about 400 feet to a safe spot turned off the engine and parked the truck. When the tow truck arrived the driver started the engine and the power steering worked normally. Towed the truck to a garage to have it checked. 78, 700 miles on truck.
Today while driving my 2013 Ford f150 at 30mph on a county road, a warning popped up that said "hill descent control fault" as the power steering failed. Luckily I was driving straight ahead at a slowed rate of speed. After this I could barely turn the steering wheel making for very unsafe driving conditions. Also the turn signals quit working shortly afterwards. The vehicle has about 50,000 miles on it, and looking around on the internet would lead me to assume this is a very common problem that is a definite safety concern for any in or around one of these vehicles. I also noticed that the next model year of this vehicle received a recall on this very problem. My wife also drives a 2013 f150 and I'm afraid to let her drive it anymore, it took all I could do to steer it, I can't imagine she'll be able to do the same when hers fails.
On our 2013 f150 ecoboost, the power steering assist is an electric motor that is prone to failure. Ours failed at 27,000 miles. Losing power steering in a turn could be very dangerous as the vehicle is extremely difficult to control without it. Furthermore, the differential of effort would lead a person to believe their steering failed completely. There was no real warning that the power steering was about to fail aside from some cryptic warning messages on seemingly unrelated systems.
When I turn on and place the truck in drive, my steering wheel locks up to where I cant use steering wheel, I get a error on dash stating "assist power steering failure. I place truck in park and turn vehicle off, and restart and problem seems fine, until steering wheel locks up while driving and I get this same error. Ford dealer is charging me $2000 to fix this problem. This could cause a major crash. I believe Ford should have this recalled and pay for this.
I was driving down the road at 55 mph and without warning my steering wheel all of a sudden got very stiff and difficult to steer and immediately 2 messages came up on the dash reading "service advancetrac" and " electrical power assisted steering fault". As I panicked to changed lanes and get to the shoulder I was almost struck by another vehicle by the lag caused by the power steering failure. Turning became very exhausting and tedious just to change lanes or turn the tires. I tried starting and re-starting my truck, but to no avail. The day I got my truck towed home, I parked it and have not touched it since, for I fear my life will be in danger if I drive it in those conditions again. I am aware of other recalls of previous and later model years of my same vehicle from other owners with the same issues. If this hasnt been brought to the attention of Ford motor company, yet, I hope it does before some serious/fatal incidents occur, such as mine, becuase of this particular problem.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford F-150. While operating the vehicle, the traction control light would illuminate and the power steering would suddenly malfunction. The steering wheel became very difficult to turn. The power steering failures occurred on multiple occasions and eventually went out completely. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the electronic power assist assembly malfunctioned. The electronic power assist assembly was replaced and the failure was remedied. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 20,000.
