general problems of the 2013 Ford F-150 - part 2

Truck speedometer goes to 0. Slows down abruptly. Rpm goes way up. Was going from 45 to less than 10mph in a matter of seconds. Feels like the transmission automatically downshifts to a lower gear. Very dangerous. Seems to be quite a few of these incidents on you tube. Truck only has 11600 miles on it.

I have had a problem with the transmission molded lead frame 19n01 it also shows a wrench when this problem occurs. This caused my vehicle to not show the speed limit of my vehicle. It also caused my vehicle not be able to accelerate. I then worried about this problem due to this incident was on the highway and almost caused a crash.

My 2013 f150 downshifted abruptly from 5th to 1st gear going 55. This caused me to stop dangerously and abruptly. It then got stuck in 1st gear. I turned off truck and restarted and it was stuck in 3rd gear. I did have a check engine light read which were codes: p0720/p0721/p0720 pointing to the output shaft speed sensor. I had Ford dealership TSB performed in 2020 to reprogram pcm to prevent this from happening, wrench icon showed a long with airbag light and dashboard quit working all except rpm gauge. The first time this abrupt downshift occurred was today February 21, 2024. Seems like a very dangerous safety issue and the dealership has no regards to it and said they are booked out and it would be $150 to look into it.

I was driving on the highway going 70mph in 6th gear. Myself, my wife, and my 6th month old son were on our way to a doctors appointment when in the middle lane on the highway my truck decided to completely downshift into 1st gear. With doing so my truck locked up and I lost control of the vehicle almost colliding with a semi. I was very lucky to not have wrecked and got onto the shoulder safely where I had no power to my vehicle. I got it towed to a dealership and after paying out of pocket for a diagnostic they found that my truck had a recall with the oss sensor on the transmission witch caused significant engine and transmission damage resulting in $18,000. 00 to fix. Apparently the warranty expires 10 years or 150k miles witch my truck has surpassed both. I wasn’t warned about any recall or found any recall there was no damage or signs of damage to the truck prior to this incident.

While in motion, the wrench on the dash lights up and the truck downshifts. It matches the description that goes with the recall for the speed sensor and the truck being reprogrammed. The symptoms, the truck info, the assembly plant and date all fit the recall but it's not on the recall list.

There's been a very dangerous situation with my truck without any warning, lose all info with it's gauges on the instrument panel and the truck losing power with speed and the transmission locking up or not shifting gears and this causes the vehicles rpm to rev up extremely high to a 4 then sometimes a hard shift can be felt at times . This is creating a very dangerous condition on the highway when speeds are at 75 when without any warning it does this and the truck has felt like it was going to flip due to these problems when they happen or other vehicles are also in danger when the truck slows drastically in front of them while behind me. There's been a recall previously I've noticed on this truck regarding a code that I've been able to get on it when it happens and its po720 . There was a recall on this truck in 2019 that calls for a replacement of the molded lead frame which describes everything I just mentioned to you above but, this recall excluded covering rental vehicles (due to their inventory of parts) and low and behold I've just found out that my truck had been a rental vehicle in its past and during this period of the recall. I've notified the lienholder and Ford motor company of my issues and have gotten no help as to how I feel they are responsible for this fix and I think that either they should be made to repair any vehicle ,rental or not, either way its a very bad situation which risks peoples lives. And if by some chance this truck did get the repair that was recalled back then , then I believe those parts are faulty as well and Ford needs to do another recall on this truck before an accident happens and someone gets badly injured or killed by it.

The vehicle randomly shifts to first gear while driving at 30-45 mph. The behavior is dangerous - in one case it caused me to lose control of my vehicle; in another, I was nearly rear ended. I was then forced to stop driving until I could have the car repaired. I paid to have the lead frame fixed. I’m told there was an extended warranty issued by Ford for this issue; however, because I drive my vehicle less frequently, I was months removed from the 10-year extended warranty threshold. For an issue as dangerous as this (and from my understanding is one that occurs somewhat frequently), I’m surprised a recall wasn’t issued!.

My truck will downshift on its own, I. E. , I’m doing 65 mph on the highway in 6th gear and it will suddenly downshift to 1st, 2nd or 3rd gear, causing my back tires to spin out, I almost lose control of the truck and I lose speed quickly when other vehicles all around me are still doing 65 mph or more. The truck has also failed to shift out of first gear at all, the speedometer needle does not move at all and the truck will not shift up when I’m trying to accelerate. This is a danger to me and to all drivers around me. Ford is aware of this problem, the issue is a faulty lead frame assembly and it needs to be replaced. They issued a recall that called for a pcm reprogramming - a reprogramming of the pcm module was supposedly going to fix the issue with a faulty lead frame assembly! crazy, it clearly did not as I had the pcm reprogrammed and the truck is still acting crazy due to the faulty lead frame assembly that Ford refuses to replace at their expense. It’s a $200 part!!.

My 2013 Ford F-150 recently began experiencing transmission shifting problems. As I accelerated from a dead stop, the transmission would not shift out of first gear. The only short term remedy was to pull over to the side of the road, turn off the ignition, wait for 60 seconds and restart the engine. This worked sometimes, sometimes not. I understand there had been a 2011 thru 2013 Ford F-150 transmission recall in 2019 for identical circumstances. I submitted my VIN to check on whether it had been recalled, only to find it was not among those listed, even though the faulty shifting circumstances were identical to descriptions in the 2019 recall matter. A visit to the local Ford dealership left me without an answer, as I was told they currently had no transmission mechanic. Out of an abundance of caution, I took the truck to a local transmission repair service with a description of my problem and request for an evaluation. The service request resulted in confirmation of a faulty speed sensor, which yielded a fault code of po722-00 (output shaft speed sensor circuit no signal). The lead frame was replaced as a result. Again, I believe my circumstances were identical to those being reported by other 2011 to 2013 Ford F-150 truck owners , on or before the 2019 recall, yet my VIN did not match the recall order. I'm sending along this description of my circumstance, requesting consideration for inclusion of my VIN as part of the 2019 recall of 2011-2013 Ford F-150 with this faulty speed sensor/ lead frame issue.

As you are driving the vehicle will randomly down shift into first gear, causing the vehicle to potentially slam into first while in mid drive almost as if you hit a wall, this causes the vehicle to lose any information on the dash including speedometer. There are no warning lamps on prior to incident. Took it to a dealer to have it diagnosed and diagnosis was recorded as transmission speed sensor which was common for recalls recently. Uncertain, how or when it started happening there was an elderly couple who owned the vehicle before me. This incident occurs frequently but not all the time.

Component or system failure or malfunction: delayed or no gear shifting. Transmission sudden downshift at low and high speeds, and failure to shift into lower or higher gear at takeoff, and/or while in motion. Safety risk: sudden downshift at high speed caused stability and control issue at highway speed. The problem has been reproduced by owner and discussed with dealer by phone. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others. No warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem appeared prior to the failure. A large wrench display appeared on dash at the moment of failure and reoccurs with each failure. Some dash displays zero out and/or disappear. The speedometer drops to zero and fails thereafter to register. Transmission shifting becomes random and sudden or fails entirely. Manuals shifting is sometimes possible and other times not possible. Manual shifting all the way to gear 3, followed by a mild acceleration occasionally causes the speedometer to resume function. Subsequent switching to automatic shift is then possible and automatic shifting functions initially or for varied lengths of time.  failure produces obd code p0720 related to workings and overall condition of the output speed sensor circuit.

I was traveling on the highway at a speed of 70 mph, when out of nowhere my truck downshifted to first gear; causing me to swerve to the side of the road. I had my vehicle towed to a shop where I was informed it was a module for the transmission and lead case which caused the malfunction. Upon doing the research I learned that it was a recall from the plant which my truck came from. Had repairs done at the tune of $5320. 00. Also was told by a consumer service representative that I qualified for reimbursement, but then was told that my vehicle was not part of the recall which specifically displayed the exact symptoms and malfunctions of said recall-24s37.

What’s driving and all the stiff on the instrument panel stop working and down shifted in to first gear got a six speed transmission in it was going 55 sometimes it goes faster by it’s self just started out of nowhere.

Driving normal and then sudden down shift while driving on the freeway had the software update and it’s still doing the same thing. Was told the lead frame needs replacement. Ford has so many issues with the parts they are back ordered and I am now moving past the extended 10 year / 150,000 mile warranty. I can’t drive and have no idea when or if parts will be available.

Problemas DE trasmicion.

Would be driving at about 55-60 mph on the interstate and the truck would drop into first gear slamming me forward almost causing an accident twice !!!! not including the whiplash it gives you!.

Complaint: speedometer is not working, loss of function of speedometer while driving and downshifting of the gear. The instrumental cluster showed a maintenance warning while driving in which will cause the speedometer to stop working. When trying to drive the vehicle on a stop position, there is a delay on the acceleration. Vehicle feels like it's on 2nd or 3rd gear. This may lead to loss of control on vehicle. I brought my vehicle to Ford service, I had them do a diagnose on my vehicle. The only issue they're able to find is the cooling system leak and rotor/brake pad replacement in which I ended up costing $3700. Knowing this would resolve the main issue. They had my truck for a month and after 24 hours of receiving my vehicle the main issue showed up and can't use it again due to safety issue. I believe the issue of my vehicle is part of 2013 Ford F-150 recall, but my vehicle has not received a recall. I believe this is the issue my vehicle experiencing below. Recall 19v433000 recall 19v075000 how come Ford service did not know about my vehicle issue when it is the 2013 Ford f150 recall problem. But they let me spend big bucks for nothing and still not to be able to use my vehicle until now.

Driving down the freeway, the vehicle lost response to the throttle and transmission resulting in no ability to safely move off the road and needing to coast to the shoulder. A wrench icon on the dash appeared along with an engine light which stayed illuminated and was reading a p0720 error code (output shaft speed sensor). This occurred twice while going freeway speeds, and once at city street pace. The issue was able to be reset by turning the vehicle on and off, but repeated a couple more times. This is available for inspection as the check engine light has stayed illuminated. A similar issue has occurred where the vehicle will have a wrench symbol on the dash, with the speedometer mileage not working in addition to not shifting below 3rd gear and above 5th gear.

We are having downshifting issues and the speed is randomly changing. The truck came to a stop while still driving. The speedometer doesn’t reflect accurate to the truck speed.

Lcd panel goes blank, when I shift it, it smacks hard and does not go into gear. Cuts out and speedometer fails. Have to shut off and restart.

The problem is when driving the vehicle losses power , service icon come on , but all the instruments go blank including speed , oil pressure, fuel . The vehicle accelaration does not work proper, it feels like it get stuck on high gear. Unable to accelerate rapidly. When checked for codes not codes indicated. Then when I turn the vehicle off and restart it , everything start to work proper.

My 2013 Ford f150 has been throwing wrench light while downshifting automatically. For months. Then I lose my speedometer and the airbag light illuminates. I also have had random downshifting that causes a lock up in the back end (basically giving the feeling of slamming on the breaks). I took my vehicle in to Ford dealership on 12/8/22 and they did states that it was part of the 19n01 lead frame recall. My truck was at around 104,000 miles. I have called multiple times with no luck on when part will be available. I have no other vehicle to drive and Ford has not offered any type of resolution. After having the rear end lock up multiple times I am concerned to continue driving the vehicle. I am also very concerned with what kind of other damage all this erratic downshifting is doing to my vehicle, especially the automatic transmission.

While operating this vehicle on 12/2/2022 at freeway speeds (55-60 mps) in morning rush hour traffic, the truck exhibited a sudden and immediate downshift of the transmission from 5th to 1st gear. This caused my back tires to lock up and begin to slide, which caused me to momentarily lose control of the vehicle. The issue appears to be loss of communication with the speed sensor that selects and moves the gears. This nearly caused an accident in morning rush hour traffic as I lost control of the vehicle. This issue appears to be related to Ford recall@ 19s07, and I reached out to my dealership on 12/2/2022 and was told that they would research and call me back. On 12/5/2022 I called the Ford recall/customer service line for more information. At that time, I was told it had already been serviced and they only stand behind the recall work for 12 months and to "keep my receipts since there was a pending NHTSA legal action" for potential reimbursement.

2013 Ford f150 in the past week has experienced sudden downshift with speedometer dropping to 0 with electronics failing in the vehicle while being operated. I started to research and there was not an official recall but instead treated as a customer satisfaction program 19n01. I have never received any emails thru the Ford app, although my email is registered, never had this brought to my attention by any of the Ford dealers while they were performing routine maintenance. I immediately took the truck to the dealer where it was purchased at preston Ford, denton MD. I have been advised that there was a warranty extension done until 10 tears or 150,000 miles. My vehicle currently has 155k miles. I was advised on 12/5 that they will not cover the normally $1200 repair because of the mileage, even though I wasn't provided an explanation why I was not notified. Then I was told due to supply chain issues, Ford is unable to get the lead frame, so they have to order a whole new valve body for $1900. 00 if I would like the truck to be repaired. This is my daily vehicle. How is it that an issue that causes a sudden stop, which could lead to collisions and has also been known to shift in reverse not an actual recall since lives are in danger? this should be a true recall and Ford needs to fix. This issue shouldn't have a mileage constraint on it. A serious driving hazard should be rectified regardless of how many miles a vehicle has.

When attempting to coast to a stop at slow speeds the throttle stays up and even causes the truck to accelerate at times. The truck will shift hard randomly. The truck appears to get stuck in a high gear and loses power to accelerate, at times. Driving at highway speeds the truck loses power. A mechanic shop pulled codes p0720 and p0722. The mechanic shop referred me to the dealer because the codes were under an extended warranty for a recall 16s19-supplement #1. The dealer reported that they did not pull any codes off the truck except finding erratic misfires. The dealer reported that the truck engine light has to come on for them to read a code. They reported they can not order the lead frame part until they pull a code off the truck. They also report the part is on back order with no eta. The trucks wrench light continues to come on but not engine light. An auto body shop was able to pull p0720 code off my truck without the engine light coming on. Ford has not returned my calls.

01 Apr 22, vehicle was received from penske Ford after coolant leak to include scheduled maintenance such as engine oil and filter change, engine air filter, transfer case fluid change, drive belt, front differential fluid change and lastly the transmission fluid and filter change. Mileage in was at 156877 and mileage out from the services was 156879. Approximately 6,000 miles added from the mileage counter, the vehicle experienced sudden downshift with speedometer dropping to zero and passenger airbag caution illuminated on the dashboard. Upon reading the code via the obd2 code reader, the following dtc were noted: p0720 output shaft speed sensor circuit; p0722 output shaft speed sensor circuit no signal; u0401:00-0b invalid data received from ecm/pcm a; b00a0:68-8b - occupant classification system; u0401:68-0b invalid data received from ecm/pcm a; u0401:00-0a. Safety risk was the sudden down shift while going at normal speed or flow of traffic. Sudden downshift can result into a rear end collision. The vehicle has not been inspected since the malfunction however, through research of TSB 19n01 and contacting the dealership, it was determined that the extended warranty did not apply due to the mileage exceeded the 150,000 therefore I ended up buying and fixing my own vehicle with current mileage of 163421. 4 at completion. This vehicle was also recalled for 19ns19 because of 6r80 transmission. I am unsure if this warrants another recall however, it is my belief that it should be looked at again.

The gears automatically changed while in motion driver at risk of loss of control of vehicle and pedestrians in residential area at risk of contact symptoms cannot be duplicated and verified by manufacturer vehicle has been inspected by local auto diagnostic repair buisness warning error displayed on driver console of 'open wrench' indication of random electrical or mechanical error.

Current recall of vehicle shifting up and down while driving down the road. Sometimes shifting all the way down to first gear while going down the highway at 45-50 miles per hour.

Vehicle will not shift properly into gear or switches gears randomly into the wrong gear for the speed. Apparently it is the software that controls the speed control sensor for the transmission.

When traveling on road and want to speed up to get on freeway, change lanes, or simple speed up I lose power shift and it goes from 6 to 4 or 3 in gears and I can't accelerate which has almost caused many accidents. The check engine signal will only blink right when it's happening and loose speed and the ac air flow will get warm until it corrects itself after I either slow down or shut truck off completely. But always happens when you accelerate at any time.

Speedometer shut off. Truck stayed in 6th gear and wouldn't down shift. Gears are erratic. Wrench shows on screen. Check engine light is on. Truck won't shift properly.

I’ve went though 8 wheel bearings in the last 6 months on the drivers side tire alone. I’ve had to replace brake hoses every few weeks and I’ve had to take it to two different dealerships. Also it keep downshift from 6 gear to first with no warning. I’m afraid it’s gonna cause me to wreck.

I was driving my truck in north georgia while towing a trailer under 5000 lbs. The truck was in cruis control at 68 mph and the truck suddenly down shifted from 5th to 1st. I got the truck off the interstate at a reduced speed since it wouldn't shift up. When this happened an orange wrench light came on. When I stopped I turned the truck off and the light went away. We fueled up and got on the road. Shortly after the truck did the same thing with dropping to first gear and felt like it lost power steering. We pulled over and detached the trailer. I then got back on the road and after getting off the interstate and to slower roads the truck did the same thing. Every time the truck did this it reset the lights on the dash. The truck then sat for 5 days with out being driven. On my way home the check engine light came on. On Sunday June 12th the truck was dropped off at banner Ford in mandeville louisiana. The mechanic advised that while the truck acted like the lead frame recall issues they will not do anything unless I can prove the truck did this. The proof is they need to have a code show up. However, every time it did this the wrench light went away when the truck was restarted. I was told by Ford that when this happens I need to drive the truck straight to dealer without turning it off. Since the dealer said they couldn't do anything I called the 1 866 Ford number. The cas # with Ford is attached to this. There has been poor communication with Ford toe through this. The dealer told Ford that I picked the truck up earlier this week but in reality I picked it up today because the dealer called me yesterday. The Ford apparently the dealer mechanic never communicated with Fords mechanic to resolve my issue and told them I got my truck sooner.

I'm not sure if it's the cruze control or just the the accelerator that is causing the problem. I'm driving along and then the truck kicks into high speed almost throwing me off the road. At times it's slow then it kicks in. Very scary.

May 18, 2022; vehicle has 140,650 miles. My truck drove fine all day until it seems the like the transmission failed, it just kicked out of gear. The check engine light came on, as did the air bag light. The truck had no power, no fuel control, and seemed no transmission control. The first time, I was able to coast to a safe area, stop, and put the truck into park. It would not shift back into gear to proceed. I shut the vehicle off, and in park. Restarted and proceeded to continue, then it drove fine for less than 1/2 mile, and the check engine light and air bag light both came on again. The same problem occurred as before, no power and no transmission. I was able to coast to safety again, and shut the truck off again. Placed into park and restarted. Put into gear, and drove to a parts store about 1 mile away, with no problems, but I could feel the transmission hesitating to change gears. The parts store was unable to get any malfunction codes from the truck. We were able to drive the truck home without any other problems yet, 13 miles.
