1 Engine Crank/camshaft Position Sensor problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2024

The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The power train failure warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle decelerated from 60 mph to approximately 40–50 mph. The contact stated that when the accelerator was depressed, the vehicle failed to respond as needed. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle jerked and hesitated to accelerate, but eventually started to accelerate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with a cam shaft sensor failure. The contact was informed that the cam shaft sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact heard an abnormal sound coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was driven to the shoulder of the road. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with complete differential failure. The contact was informed that the differential needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.

2 Engine Crank/camshaft Position Sensor problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2024

The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, there was an abnormal rattling sound coming from under the hood. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed that 4 cam shaft phasers had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to customer satisfaction program: 21n03; however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.

3 Engine Crank/camshaft Position Sensor problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2023

The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, the contact observed a rattling sound coming from the engine compartment. The contact stated that once the oil pressure had built up the sound coming from the engine compartment ceased. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the variable timing chain and four camshaft phasers needed to be replaced. The vehicle was currently being repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 96,500.
