10r80 transmission flares from 1st gear to 2nd gear along with downshifting from 4th gear to 1st gear when lightly accelerating.
Harsh and erratic shifting, unintended down shift and sometimes never wants to shift and task meter sounds like it’s floor but don’t go no where. Close accident when at intersection vehicle would go on our green light and another car thought we were letting him go then our truck gear caught and we almost hit them my husband and I had a lifetime power train warranty and dealership will not honor because I missed 2 oil changes by mileage (379 miles and 1200 miles another time). No hope from Ford as know this transmission 10r80 is crap.
10r80 transmission failure erratic and harsh shifting transmission has been evaluated and rebuilt by independent service center. Noticed roughly 2 weeks of harsh shifting before the shifting became erratic.
While driving at a low speed, when pressing the accelerator, the auto initially didn't respond, but then accelerated sharply after a delay (when the accelerator wasn't engaged). The transmission seemed to abrubtly shift up by 2 or 3 gears without warning requiring me to immediately depress the brake to avoid hitting the vehicle in front of me.
Ford has a known issue with the 2019 f150 eco boost cam phaser rattling. They replaced once and it failed again. They now refuse to repair the fix that should have corrected the initial cam phaser issue. They continue to use faulty parts.
I bought this truck about 2 years ago at 130,000 miles ago. I knew the people I bought it from and it's been well maintained through its entire life. It started shifting really hard from 3rd gear to 6th gear and from 7th to 8th gear and took it to Ford to find out what was going on with it. I ended up getting the software update on it which only slightly helped the issue. It went back to the same hard shifting it was doing before about 5 months later but thought nothing of it since it seemed to be normal at this point. I've now learned this hard shift has been a problem for lots of people owning this truck not just me. Around the time the hard shifting came back, my rear differential went out requiring a $4,500 replacement. A little while after getting the rear differential replaced my transmission's hard shift got worse and took it to the shop to get a transmission service done on it. Now after getting the transmission service I had a transmission failure 2 days later (June 12, 2026). Now I'm getting quoted for a $8,500 fix on a truck I've already had to toss over $6,000 into over the span of 2 years. That's absolutely ridiculous especially with how many people seem to be having issues with this 10 speed transmission.
Transmission does not shift or grab gears and would make me be stuck in the middle of the road.
Transmission is acting up causing vehicle to jerk in traffic and makes a loud clunking sound in 3-4 and 8 gear. I’m afraid it’s gonna fail one day and cause an accident. I hear from other Ford f150 owners this is a widespread issue with these vehicles.
On a day trip I experienced transmission issues where my truck attempted to shift from 10th gear to 1st gear on the interstate. After getting off an exit it attempted to shift from 6th to 1st gear going 50mph. Ford knows the cdf drum on the 10r80 transmissions are bad from the factory. They have even revised the part to accommodate for the issue. They refuse to recall this transmission or cover the cost. This could have caused a wreck while traveling on the interstate and endangered my life. I have the 6th to 1st gear shift on video.
Initially; I thought someone rear ended my truck, but it turned out to be a severe shifting problem when accelerating. I took the truck to a Ford authorized service dealer and they told me about the well documented "10r80 mechanical hardware defect (cdf drum migration)" transmission problem for Ford model years 2017-2022. There were no warning messages or symptoms that I remember. The truck has 142,000 miles.
My 2019 F-150 has only 25,000 miles. The dealership has confirmed transmission failure requiring a $9,000 replacement. A transmission is expected to last significantly longer than 25,000 miles. I have maintained the vehicle. This is an extraordinary premature failure on a critical part of the vehicle and it poses a massive safety liability.
Excessive oil consumption. I have to check and refill every single week since I drive over 100 miles/day, it is ridiculous how much oil burns. Transmission at high speed acts very erratic, when downshifting is like it doesn't know what do do and when it finally decides to down shift, it kicks so hard that feels like it's going to brake in pieces, even at low speed the shifting is very hard, not smooth at all. Radio carplay is useless, every time I try carplay, it works but I am not able to use the volume, so I have the feature but can't use it.
Transmission downshifted without notice.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that during cold starts, after shifting into gear, the vehicle unintendedly shifted into neutral(n). There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic; however, the failure could not be duplicated. The contact stated that the vehicle operated as intended while the transmission temperature was normal. The dealer was notified of the failure, and an appointment was scheduled for a diagnostic test. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 79,000.
Our 2019 f150 four-wheel-drive began jerking, hesitating, and gear slipped from 1st to 3rd to 3rd and fifth when we attempted to cross an intersection, our car would not shift at all, and we had to coast across the intersection and it finally caught and began moving forward. The vehicle also displayed a warning light in the dashboard, but it said our trailer was disconnected. We didn’t have a trailerwe brought the vehicle home called the dealership. The next day the vehicle was on a tow truck going to the dealers. I thought we were going to get hit my car’s not paying attention in front of us behind us and coming through the intersection. This was a very scary moment for me. I was afraid the power train was gonna lock up while we were driving 45 miles an hour home. The dealership said the train. The powertrain was shot and needed to be repaired but offered no assistance no help and I’m fighting with the dealership who offered us a lifetime warranty on our powertrain as long as we own the vehicle and will not honor the free powertrain replacement. This makes me believe that Ford has known all along that they have a very huge safety issue both my husband and myself have to drive on the interstate to get to work and we spend about an hour in traffic each way I would hate to see what would happen if the wheels did lock up or the gears would just strip out I believe more than just a powertrain could possibly be wrong with this vehicle as well.
The transmission shift is abrupt. It’s sometimes lethargic and does not transition smooth at all. There’s a clear issue and seems to get worse.
Hard shifting causing my truck to downshift violently. Jerked my neck. Severe neck pain.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle experienced hard shifts and the transmission was shuddering. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 25e070000 (power train); however, the contact was informed that the recall repair could not be completed because the transmission had exceeded 8,000 miles. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 109,000.
My 2019 f150 3. 5 ecooboost with the (10r80) transmission is unsafe to drive. The vehicle only has 66,000 miles and it is experiencing very serious transmission problems. I will lead off with the most dangerous safety issue. The 10r80 transmission will shift unexpectedly while traveling around 50 mph from 9th gear to 1st gear without actually engaging 1st gear, but simply becoming unresponsive on a highway at high speed. I was afraid I would be rear ended by another driver because I wasn't engaging any brake lights. A few other hazardous examples would be hard shifting such as from first gear to third gear and skipping second gear when gradually accelerating, downshifting hard when approaching a stop sign or red traffic light and shifting from sixth gear to seventh gear and simply not knowing which gear it wants to be in. The transmission is dangerously erratic. Recently the vehicle had a small (wrench) warning light illuminate. I referred to the manual and it indicates a powertrain malfunction. I brought my vehicle in for service and they did a software update. This did absolutely nothing and the transmission simply got worse. It was more erratic than ever. I scheduled another appointment for service and the dealership subsequently told me I need a new transmission. My truck has 66,000 miles on it. This is crazy. And a delicate 66,000 miles at that as I am meticulous with all maintenance intervals. The transmission is so erratic that I will not drive it. It is simply too unsafe and I do not want to cause any further damage. So in conclusion, I now have a 2019 f150 with 66,000 delicate miles on it, sitting in my driveway.
While proceeding onto a busy highway the truck automatically shifted from 1st gear to 7th gear rendering it so sluggish it wouldnt barley move forward leaving in the middle of oncoming traffic. This has occured more than once and im now not using the truck.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? the transmission is failing. Yes, it is available. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? my safety was put at risk by the vehicle losing forward motion while traveling through an intersection. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? yes I have a diagnosis for transmission rebuild or replace by both a dealer and an independent service center. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? no. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? symptoms of slight gear slippage occurred prior to the incident.
2019 Ford F-150 4wd super crew 10 speed automatic with 51,330 miles. The transmission upon acceleration will slip, slow to shift, disengage, then slam into gear. I was afraid that the transmission would lock-up disengage causing an accident. There was a warning icon of a wrenchon dash display. I took to Ford dealer where they confirmed a cylinder bushing had slipped. They recommended to replace the transmission.
1. Unexpected downshift into second gear while driving - like the engine is falling - causes severe jerk and sometimes truck revs/ goes into neutral - just revs. 2. Frozen tailgate latches and door latch defects 3. Additionally the transmission harsh shifting when cold (safety/drivability defect): when the vehicle is cold, the 10?speed transmission shifts harshly, hesitates, clunks, and delays engagement. This matches Ford’s transmission tsbs for calibration and adaptive learning issues. The dealership acknowledged the shifting issue but did not perform the required calibration or TSB procedures. The dealership refuses to document my reported symptoms or perform the TSB repairs unless the failure is happening in front of them. This prevents known defects from being repaired and leaves the vehicle in an unsafe condition. Ford customer service confirmed the shifting issue exists but the dealership still did not perform the calibration. Ford corp customer service didnt understand and manager didn’t even know what a TSB is:/ so no help at corporate. As chuck the manager stated he didn’t know what document I was referring to and I told him the number as well ? I contacted Ford customer service and a case was opened. A customer service manager named chuck returned my call. He stated that the TSB is “not a warranty” and that the dealership “has to duplicate the condition” before Ford will authorize the repair. I explained that the tailgate freezing issue cannot be duplicated on demand because it only occurs in cold overnight temperatures, not during daytime service hours. Despite this, Ford insisted the dealer must reproduce the failure, even though Ford’s own tsbs describe this exact cold?weather condition.
2019 f150 with approx 62,000 miles on the odometer. Primary concern is the transmission was unable to shift gears normally. The truck was unable to accelerate or maintain speed normally while the automatic transmission attempted to change gears. This failure occurred without warning. The failure of the transmission was verify by the dealership and an independent mechanic. After the initial failure the "service vehicle" and "check engine" lights came on. After the initial failure the truck was unable to shift into gears 7-10 and had delayed shifting in lower gears. I am lucky the initial failure happened on a residential street at speeds less than 35 mph. If this had happened at a different part of my commute I could have caused an accident turning into an intersection where cross traffic doesn't have a stop sign.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at 65 mph, the vehicle came to a sudden stop and swung the to the left side of the road. The contact was able to get the vehicle in control and moved into the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to the residence, and later taken to a independent mechanic and was diagnosed to need a full transmission replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed, however the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. In addition, the vehicle lost motive power. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 52,150.
This is related to the incident report number xxx I filed previously. Before, between, and after that incident and this one reported today. The vehicle performs mostly normal, the severe issues are completely random and unpredictable. On 4/28/26 I started my truck and left to take my daughter to her [xxx] pediatrician appointment. I left my neighborhood and turned left into traffic. I didn’t speed up much, as the red light on the street stopped me about 100 yards down the road. Then, when green light hit I attempted to accelerate. The vehicle appeared to be stuck in 6th gear and would only rev up the rpms to about 4000 and barely move forward. I managed to drive about 50ft and get the vehicle off onto the grass shoulder infront of someone’s house. I shifted the vehicle from park to drive and turned it on and off multiple times. This did not resolve the issue and I eventually put the truck in 4x4 in an attempt to make more power and drive forward. This entire time I’m on the shoulder of morning 55mph traffic, hazard lights on, with my infant in the back seat. I managed to get the vehicle to shift into 2nd gear and drive up the road. Once it came up to operating temperature it would shift into higher gears and we made it to the pediatrician. The truck stalled out similarly at two other stopped intersections and on the parking deck before we arrived at our destination. I called my wife and had her drive our daughter home after the appointment. I drove the truck home, on the same route, and it acted as if nothing was wrong. It shifted hard between 1-3rd but otherwise performed well enough. I have scheduled a transmission rebuild with a non-Ford service center for 5/4/26. It is extremely concerning that these issues are happening to myself and others with the 10r80 10-speed and Ford isn’t being forced to recall these vehicles. My truck is a 2019 with 86000 miles now. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
There is a known issue with the Ford 10 speed manual transmissions they put in their trucks. They have issued a recall for some but I don't believe it covers all the vehicles affected. I own a 2019 Ford f150 3. 5 ecoboost with the 10 speed automatic transmission. It has ~104,000 miles and now needs a transmission. Ford motor company needs to stand by their product and help those affected by these faulty transmissions.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, while attempting to depress the accelerator pedal, the vehicle hesitated and lost automotive power. The contact stated that seconds later, the vehicle started operating as intended. An independent mechanic was contacted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 99,000.
Dangerous down shifting and jumping gears while driving while staying in lip mode .
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the transmission independently downshifted. The contact stated that the vehicle jerked forward. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a cdf drum failure. The contact was informed that the cdf drum needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to a second independent mechanic for a second opinion, where it was diagnosed with a failed cdf drum. The contact was informed that the cdf drum needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was informed that the failure was a known failure of the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 47,130.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while pressing the brake pedal a grinding noise was present coming from the frontend of the vehicle. While inspecting the vehicle the husband discovered that the brake vacuum line was damaged. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who replaced the four wheel drive vacuum hose. After retrieving the vehicle the failure reoccurred and the vehicle was taken back to the local dealer who installed a vacuum tube and actuator assembly but the failure continued to occur. The manufacturer was not yet contact regarding the failure. The failure mileage was 86,000.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle hesitated with the transmission slipping. The contact stated that the vehicle felt like it was being driven over a rumble strip. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer to be diagnosed, and it was determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 100,000.
I am the owner of a 2019 Ford F-150 lariat equipped with a 10-sp transmission. In late 2021, early 2022 - whiled the vehicle still had warranty - I reported to a Ford dealership that the transmission was experiencing harsh shifting and jerking. At that time, I was informed that no issue could be identified. I complained of this each time I took the vehicle into the dealer for an oil change. After the warranty expired on this vehicle in 2023, the condition worsened. By 2024, the transmission began intermittently shifting into neutral while the vehicle was in motion. This occurred both when accelerating through lower gears (notably between 3rd, 4th, and 8th,9th) and while driving at highway speeds. These incidents created serious safety risks. On multiple occasions, the vehicle unexpectedly shifted into neutral while changing lanes on the interstate highway. The vehicle rpms spiked and I was unable to regain power and had to maneuver to the shoulder while a semi-truck traveling at high speed approached from behind. This placed me in a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation. On another occassion, the vehicle unexpectedly shifted into neutral while I was proceeding through intersections after a green light, leaving me without power, and unable to shift back into drive in active traffic. There were no service, or warning lights on prior to these failures. The issues occurred suddenly without notice, creating unpredictable and hazardous conditions. Warning indicators only appeared after the condition progressed where the vehicle became un-driveable. Two dealers have since inspected the vehicle and confirmed that the internal transmission components have failed. I was advised that a full transmission replacement is necessary. The issue has occurred multiple times and has progressively worsened since it was first reported under warranty. There was failure to identify and address safety risks sooner and this is extremely concerning. This is a known issue!.
Just bought this truck 3 weeks ago, and was very excited. Now I have noticed transmission noises during the drop in rpm's during the upshift from 3-5, 3-4, 5-6, and 9-10. Sent it in for diagnostics and they are certain it is the clutch drum bushing failure.
