104 problems related to engine and engine cooling have been reported for the 2021 Ford F-150. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2021 Ford F-150 based on all problems reported for the 2021 F-150.
I’ve had the transmission replaced along with the torque converter when both failed less than a year ago. The transmission and the torque converter are now doing the same thing it was doing prior to the replacement. The transmission slips in 4th, 7th and 8th gears. The torque converter whines loudly. Ford will not fix the issues with these transmissions without a hefty out of pocket fee. It’s become very well known that all of these 10r80 engines/transmissions are a major problem that Ford is not remedying. If this transmission gives out when I’m on the interstate it’s going to cause a major wreck. I live in the mountains, so a bad transmission can quickly turn into a deadly accident. These transmissions need a permanent fix, not for us owners to continue paying thousands of dollars for replacements or rebuilds. This is Fords problem.
Vehicle information 2021 Ford F-150 powerboost VIN: [xxx] complaint description while driving approximately 70 mph on a highway, my 2021 Ford F-150 powerboost suddenly displayed a “stop safely now” message and immediately lost propulsion. The engine shut down without warning while I was in active traffic. After the shutdown, the vehicle automatically shifted into park and would not allow me to shift into neutral. This left me unable to move the vehicle out of a live traffic lane. I was forced to shut the vehicle off while still in a dangerous roadway position. This incident created a serious safety hazard, as I was traveling at highway speed and could have been rear-ended due to the sudden loss of power and inability to move the vehicle. This issue appears to match Ford technical service bulletin (TSB) 23-2317, which describes “stop safely now” warnings, no-start conditions, and gateway module (gwm) software faults. This indicates a known defect that can cause sudden loss of propulsion. A claim has already been opened with Ford motor company under case number [xxx], and the vehicle is currently at a Ford dealership for diagnosis. At this time, the issue has not been resolved. This failure occurred without warning and presents a significant risk to driver safety and others on the road. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
We have already filed a report regarding multiple unresolved warranty defects that Ford motor company has refused to address for over a year. Among these is a recurring fuel pump failure—an issue that has now occurred multiple times. The most recent incident happened just a couple of weeks ago in the twin cities after being told by our dealer that there was not an issue or fix for the fuel pump issue, where the truck stalled in active traffic, creating a situation that could have resulted in serious injury or worse, death! despite repeated attempts to resolve this matter, Ford’s latest response is unacceptable and has directly led to this additional complaint. We have been told that no action will be taken unless we personally drive this unsafe vehicle to a dealership for inspection. When we made it clear that doing so would put us at risk, we were dismissively told to have it towed if we were unwilling to drive it. Let us be absolutely clear: we will not endanger our lives to accommodate Ford’s refusal to honor its warranty obligations. We are being asked to operate a vehicle with known, unresolved defects that have already proven dangerous. This is not only irresponsible—it is indefensible. If this matter is not addressed immediately and appropriately, we will have no choice but to escalate further.
Excessive oil consumption. Consumes more than 1 quart of oil every 5k miles.
The vehicle is experiencing a chronic, documented loss of engine coolant with no external leaks identified, accompanied by a persistent odor of burning coolant. Despite nine months of notification and two separate Ford authorized dealerships attempting repairs, the defect remains unresolved. To date, dealerships have performed only 'surface-level' pressure and dye tests. They have refused to perform thorough diagnostics despite the clear evidence of consumption. This creates a severe safety hazard: coolant loss on this engine platform is a known precursor to sudden engine stall and potential engine fire. By failing to identify the internal leak path, Ford is requiring me to operate a vehicle with an unpredictable mechanical deficit. The absence of a warning lamp (cel) does not mitigate the risk; it confirms a mechanical failure that the current onboard diagnostics are failing to capture before a catastrophic event occurs.
The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated with an abnormal rattling sound coming from the engine compartment. The Ford app indicated a timing failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact believed that the failure was associated with an undisclosed recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 58,000.
Due to waiting for a recall fix for ( NHTSA #-25v455 ) my f150 raptor has been having all listed failing issues, miss fire at idle or when fuel is hot, issue starting on a handful of times. I have been driving it after 4 -5k miles of this and I was alerted today after replacing ( all injectors, coils, spark plugs, etc ) that I may need a new engine. This could have caused a crash and is now costing me an entire engine due to no fix or parts availability. Thousands of dollars for a new engine out of my pocket due to fuel starvation. Cylinder 4 miss fire's at idle. They appeared once I returned home from the mountains back to texas with hot weather.
My son is a mechanic and realized there was an issue. He found this issue: the engine loss compression on number four-cylinder severe power loss inspected; found damage to top of number four piston, most likely due to valve failure. He took to Ford dealership in tuscaloosa, al. They agreed with the assessment. Ford motor CO. Would not repair, stating this issue was not caused by recall.
Guessing the date below truck shuts off when trying to take off and go. This has happened a few times and even pulling onto a main highway. This is a very dangerous situation, and I have contacted Ford and they have stated there is no fix for this. I have contacted carvana which is where I recently purchased the truck within the past month and they state the recall was listed and there's nothing they can do it's up to Ford to fix a recall. They will not take the truck back and now we are stuck paying for over $30,000 on this truck and it keeps stalling on us. We cannot afford for it to just sit in our yard and pay for it if it's not running. We need help to get this fixed. We have no idea what's causing it but assuming it could have everything to do with the open recall or the battery. That battery is over $4000 if we have to replace it. Another thing we noticed is the led lights on the headlights went out randomly and haven't come back on. Another very expensive fix for a truck we just purchased less than a month ago. We took the truck in the shop within the first few days of owning it due to a few issues we felt were not right like pulling to one side, feeling as if it were going over rutted areas on the roadways with a bump and jerk to it as well like it was a transmission issue. The insurance company with carvana choose the place to take it to and we dropped it off and the next day they called and stated nothing was found to be wrong with it and carvana knew we were out of return in time to replace it when they had us drop it off it was like another day.
I started smelling gas in the cabin of the truck when I came to a stop. As I was driving on the freeway I noticed my gas gauge going down rapidly. Within minutes I ran out of gas. Got the truck towed to Ford dealer. After diagnosing the issue I was made aware by Ford service department that one of the high pressure fuel injector cracked and was spraying gas out which caused me to run out of gas. With gas spraying in the engine I was at severe risk of a fire. No warning lights or messages appeared when this happened. After investigating I noticed Ford has a recall for this issue for other vehicles but not the F-150.
Vehicle lost all power and stalled while driving. Vehicle also stalled at idle when waiting at an intersection, and another time while waiting at a stop sign. No longer starts. Appears to not be receiving fuel and is returning code p0627 "fuel pump a control circuit / open" and will crank but not start. Required towing back to my residence. Fordpass sent a "service engine soon warning" stating "the powertrain control system has detected an electrical fault with the fuel pump and its associated wiring". The symptoms match those in 25v455 but this VIN number is not listed in the affected group.
24e08 for catalytic converter. Ford has a customer service program for other vins. This is not included. This is a widespread failure based on forms I have read across various year. I have 95k miles and have owned for 4. 5 years. They also stated the pcm software needs to be updated related to the catalytic converter. This is about a 3k repair. 24e04 covers this exact issue, but my VIN was on included.
I have a safety recall notice 24s55 / NHTSA recall 24v635 on my F-150. Ford requires 2-3 days to diagnose the problem due to current workload. During this diagnostic period, Ford refuses to provide a rental or loaner, leaving me without transportation. I use the truck for work, so I do not have a way to take the truck in for the recall without coming out of pocket for a replacement vehicle. My understanding is that this is a gray area, as Ford has not issued instructions to stop driving, so are not legally required to provide a rental vehicle during the diagnostic period. The fact remains I would have to take a financial loss to bring my vehicle in for this recall due to the diagnostic time. A simple solution would be for Ford to provide a replacement vehicle during this time. I discussed this with the dealership and the corporate number, to no avail.
I had driven the car about 15 residential miles to home depot and back. As I was driving into my driveway I smelled smoke and looked forward to see a puff of smoke coming out from the front, driver's side wheel well. I put the car in park and pulled the hook release control under the steering wheel. Suddenly flames were coming out the sides of the hood, about 12" high. I pulled the car quickly away from the house and trees. Put the car in park, as the flames were now engulfing the entire hood. I quickly got away from the car and called 911. The fire department is close to my house, yet by the time they arrived the car, including interior cabin, was fully engulfed in flames.
Power steering rack failure, while driving though a puddle less than 6 inches deep. Cost over $1900 to replace. My wife's 2014 Volkswagen passat is able to drive though deeper water. . On 8/13 I was unable to move over on a road that had some puddles due to oncoming traffic. After driving though the small puddle my power steering went out. Took to the mechanic and he said its a known issue due to how Ford did not seal their wiring well under the trucks and it hangs lower allowing the water to seep into the cables and cause the powering steering rack to fail. . This is unacceptable its a truck a puddle should not cause a truck to loose power steering.
The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-150. The contact stated that three months after purchasing the vehicle, while her husband was driving, the vehicle was driving roughly, and the transmission unexpectedly downshifted. The contact was unaware whether any warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and it was determined that there was a misfire in cylinders #1, #3, #4, and #6. The spark plugs were replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, a month after the repair, there was an abnormal sound coming from the steering wheel. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the wheel bearing and axle had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle remained at the dealer unrepaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 56,000.
My truck completely shut down while leaving the shop and I was only going about 6-10mph. The dash alert stated "fuel accessory" or something in orange, sorry, I panicked a little:) I took it to bradley Ford the next day and they couldn't fix it as they didn't know the issue. This happened a second time, but didn't shut off completely, it just felt like I was running out gas (full tank). I do live in lake havasu city, az and it's hot here so I don't let my truck go below 1/2 tank hoping this will help avoid a major accident. Thank you! julie burns 928-208-2867.
See attached document for complaint.
My f150 has 47k miles and it’s been serviced every time it was supposed to and the engine failed. Oil leaking into the engine destroyed it. I looked up 2021 f150 v8 coyote engine and it’s a known issue.
I was turning left from a side street onto a divided highway and stopped in the middle to wait for an opening in traffic. When one came I hit the gas and nothing happened. Pressed it again, to the floor and nothing happened. I then put the truck into reverse to back out of the way of traffic because the truck rolled forward a bit when I attempted to accelerate. I then waited for a very large opening and attempted to accelerate again. Pushed the pedal and again nothing. I then pressed it to the floor and held it there. The truck very slowly began to accelerate and then after about 20 seconds accelerated like normal. The truck seemed normal the rest of the way home.
The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, there was an abnormal knocking or ticking sound coming from the engine compartment. The contact stated that while depressing the accelerator pedal, the sound became louder. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The contact had the vehicle towed to a local dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that a connecting rod had failed, and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact had not informed the manufacturer of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 24v635000 (engine and engine cooling); however, the recall only covered 2. 7l and 3. 0l nano ecoboost engines. The contact stated that the engine size of his was a 3. 5l ecoboost engine. The failure mileage was approximately 99,000.
My truck falls in the recall for the valve failures and they finally have parts to do the test but there is tons of documents and articles saying Ford agreed with NHTSA to provide a 10 year 150k warranty to people who fall in this recall. Per you guys investigation ea23007 under 24n12. When I talked to Ford and the dealer they say that's not a number. Just on principle this is crazy. I bought my truck thinking well atleast Ford is taking care of people on this. After reading the states summary saying Ford would provide that.
While stopped at a traffic light or in an intersection preparing to make a turn, the vehicle’s engine will randomly shut off. Simultaneously, a pre-collision warning appears on the display. This causes the vehicle to become temporarily disabled, even as oncoming traffic approaches. To recover, the driver must shift the vehicle into park, restart the engine, and quickly accelerate out of the way to avoid a potential collision.
The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60-65 mph, there was fluid leaking from the vehicle, and the engine was overheating. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact checked the Ford pass app and became aware that the transmission had been serviced four times. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
Received safety recall October 2024 stating vehicle may crash - have not received any further notice about repairs.
Harsh shifting, abrupt or hard shifts. Hesitation and delays when accelerating feels unsafe, especially at highway speeds. This is an ongoing issue and has been going on for quite some time. Cannot pinpoint a specific date.
Failure to remedy engine valve recall. Was informed that a remedy would be ready by q1 of 2025. That deadline has passed and nobody at Ford has any information.
My engine failed. They recalled this engine but mine wasn't recalled. My engine did the same thing as the recalled engine did. Excessive oil consumption. When I first took it to Ford dealership it was under 60k. I have had problems with my truck since easter have taken it to them a few times. The problem was never fixed and now Ford will only cover 4,950. The engine is 12k. I feel since the engine in my truck was a recall on alot of engines. Mine should be covered under recall or warranty up to 60,000 miles. I have nothing but problems since I bought the truck. I started taking the truck to have it looked at since March to other places they couldn't help me so they told me to take it to the dealership. They keep fixing something on the truck but never the part that was broken. They told me it would be ok to drive it and so now I am over the mileage for my warranty. I don't think I should have to pay to replace my engine when it only has 61k miles on it. So they told me to drive it and then it started knocking and the engine failed. The service manger told me it was a failed bearing. Certanily no lack of maintenance so why am I stuck paying for this when it wasn't my fault. They found some damge on one of the rod bearings on the bottom. 2021 Ford F-150 v8 that engine had a recall on it. Not sure why mine wasn't recalled. Can you please help me. My truck is at larry h miller Ford in draper utah. It has been there for 5 weeks this time. Still no engine in it.
Multiple times now while driving at low speed and usually making a right hand turn, the throttle becomes totally unresponsible to driver input. Pressing the throttle does not increase ice rpm and does not accelerate the vehicle. This has occured while entering active roadways and has created a dangerous situation multiple times. Someone will be injured with these vehicles, it is only a matter of time if this failure to accelerate issue is not recalled and fixed. The date below is only the last incident. I now have over 120k miles and it has done this well over 50 times.
Whining or whistling noise at idle. Bangs when shifts to lowest gear.
Vehicle has completely unresponsive gas pedal for 3-5 seconds. Gas pedal is completely dead. This occurs randomly but mostly in a stop and start accelerating situation. Once the 3-5 seconds passes gas pedal responds normally. No codes generated during incident.
The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 45 mph, the vehicle stalled. While at a stoplight, the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to move or respond as needed. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, who informed the contact that the failure might be battery related. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and confirmed that there was no warranty coverage on the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.
My truck has a 2. 7 eco boost engine than has failed around 134,000 miles. The truck had a couple of misfires over the last couple of months, but otherwise no issues. I drove the truck one Saturday, did not drive Sunday, and on Monday I am told the engine is completely seized and I am responsible for replacing the engine. Ford will not attempt to determine if the recall for the valve intake stem has caused the issue and now I am spending over $12,000 to replace a 4 year old engine with no other issues.
The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-150. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 24v635000 (engine and engine cooling); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
When turning right there was a complete loss of power with no response from the throttle it was just stuck coasting at 20klm hr. For 20 seconds or so then throttle kicked in and normal operation again. This has happened twice now in the past week. Very dangerous especially when turning into traffic.
