The contact owns a 2023 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 35 mph and making a right turn and coming to a stop, the check engine and forward collision avoidance warning light deactivated, and the traction control warning light and other system failure warning lights were illuminated. The contact attempted to depress the brake pedal; however, the brakes failed to respond as needed. The contact coasted down the street and drifted and parked the vehicle. The contact attempted to accelerate; however, after depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle failed to stop as needed. The contact drifted and stopped and turned off the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who diagnosed that the electronic brake booster had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer contacted the manufacturer and opened a case. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and a case was opened. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 22,075.

2 Forward Collision Avoidance problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2025

The contact owns a 2023 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving various speeds, the forward collision avoidance system unintendedly activated. During the failure there were no other vehicles or large objects nearby. The "collision alert" message was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 38,000.

3 Forward Collision Avoidance problem

Failure Date: 01/29/2024

The contact owns a 2023 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 mph, the forward collision avoidance warning light illuminated. The vehicle was moving but the warning light remained illuminated. The contact stated that the failure occurred at various speeds. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that there was no failure found. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 10,000.

4 Forward Collision Avoidance problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2023

The contact owns a 2023 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 75 mph, the forward collision avoidance system engaged while there was no other vehicle nearby. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle turned off temporarily while driving on the same day. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the cause of the failure could not be determined. The dealer performed several software updates: however, the failure reoccurred. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the forward collision avoidance system engaged while there was no vehicle nearby. The contact stated that the vehicle turned off temporarily later that day. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was filed. The manufacturer advised the contact to take the vehicle back to the dealer, and to contact the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000.

5 Forward Collision Avoidance problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2023

The contact owns a 2023 Ford F-150 hybrid. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the forward collision avoidance system warning light illuminated. While driving in the sun at various speeds, the vehicle drifted towards the ditch while there are no other vehicles nearby. The radio was inoperable. The trailer disconnected message was displayed without a trailer being connected to the vehicle. After it rained or after the vehicle was washed, the vehicle was slow to start and went into accessory mode. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who informed the contact that they were unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was taken back to the local dealer again; the failure was due to the camera system and the sun. The contact stated that water and sunlight were causing the failure, and water was entering the connectors, but the mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer contacted the Ford engineer in his state, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The dealer called the manufacturer’s engineers at headquarters, who were unable to determine the cause of the failure and informed the dealer to replace unknown parts. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 2,000.
