1 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 08/28/2025

Uncommand downshift of the transmission at 50mph causing the rear wheels to skid. This was accompanied by “blind spot system fault”, “cross traffic system fault”, “see manual” warnings and a loss of transmission position indications (ie. . P-r-n-d-m-2-1). This appears to be similar to NHTSA recal # 24s37 for 2014 F-150’s.

2 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2022 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 07/24/2025

I recently ought a 2022 Ford F-150 off of a private seller. It had a clean carfax when I bought it. About a month after I bought the truck, on July 24, 2025, the following warning lights appeared on my dash all on the same day. Blind spot assist not available, cross traffic assist not available, and reverse brake assist not available. Also, my drivers side window would not roll down, and my drivers side lock/unlock buttons would not work. There were not any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. So I took my truck into gary smith Ford in fort walton beach, FL. On July 25, 2025 and they came back with the file I have uploaded below with the diagnosis and estimate. Of course the warranty has just expired a few months ago. We tried to make a claim with our insurance company and that was denied. I have also reached out to Ford customer service and they refused to help in any way. We were also never offered a loaner vehicle and my truck has been at the dealership for three weeks now. I am currently active duty military and this is now effecting my ability to report for duty, and causing my leadership to question me. It is also effecting my family as we now only have one vehicle. As you can see in the link below, the estimate is quite high. And it is extremely frustrating that Ford has refused to help in any way, and will not provide any logical reason as to why except that the warranty is expired. Especially since this isn't my fault at all. Any help in rectifying this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

3 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 07/07/2025

I took my 2016 Ford F-150 lariat in for repairs. I was getting a dash light on blind spot warning and cross traffic warning. My service advisor called and told me I needed a battery junction box but that part was no longer available and that my truck will begin to break down. It only has 46,611 miles and otherwise in excellent condition. I can't believe Ford does not have access the this part to fix my truck. Any suggestions?.

4 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2024 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/15/2025

On [xxx], at approximately [xx], a deer unexpectedly ran out from the side of the road and struck the side of my vehicle. The deer ran out from a tree line that backs up to a neighborhood adjacent to [xxx] the deer was to the left, and the a-pillar blocked the view of the deer, which was traveling at relatively the same speed as the truck, which kept the deer in the blind spot until impact. Despite the impact, the crash avoidance system did not detect the animal, did not initiate braking, and did not provide any audible or visual alerts that an accident had occurred. The truck continued moving forward until I manually applied the brakes. The deer was relatively similar in size to a teenager, and all though the vehicle is not designed to detect animals, it is still concerning it did not even register the deer, did not do any evasive steering, did not apply brakes when the accident occurred, and did not even notify me of the accident before, during, or post crash event. With the advertised safety features on the truck, I worry that if this had been person, the truck would not have registered the person either. 5 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 05/29/2025

Just pick up son from day care on afternoon of [xxx]. We were heading out of pea ridge and it was raining that day so speed was approximately 52-55 mph when all the light for the traction system starting flashing followed by a metal squealing sound. Pulled over and noticed the brake was hot. So limped it home at 25 mph and scheduled it to be in the shop. Come to find out the rear axle had broke inside the housing, caliper had locked up. Had that axle broke off and slid out of the housing most likely would of been fatal to my [xxx] in his car seat and my self. There was no warning light or anything before it happened, and it happened all withing about 35 seconds to 1 minute. Truck was in accident 2 year priors and side swiped on left side, but geico claims that since it passed the alignment test that it wasnt related. Attached is pictures of the axle it self, and the copy of invoice from the mechanic shop information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

6 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 05/29/2025

On or around may 28, 2024. My husband and, I were going to a recital. He was already in the truck. I told him. Pick me up at the mailbox. ( I had mail to go in box). I started walking down the driveway(paved). The next thing, I was on the cement screaming. I had been hit, with the truck. My husband ran to help. He said, he didn’t see me. And, the beepers ( sensors)didn’t go off. Rescue was called, checked me out. Did not transport. But, I went to hospital later. Bruises and a broken right arm. Several weeks went by. I really didn’t believe the sensors, didn’t work. We were in a parking spot. But, the truck in reverse. Waited for people to go by. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn’t. We did see people on the camera. Recently, I was behind the truck again. The sensors did not go off! we are very cautious now. Aware of the problem. Why hasn’t this truck been in the recall lists?. The accident was visible on our ring. I have video. But could not figure out to download. I can sent by email.

7 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2019 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 02/03/2025

The apim becomes inoperative at random times for ~8 hours. When this happens the entire dashboard goes black and you can’t tell your speed, turn signals, rpm, engine temp, oil pressure, etc. You are driving with no indicators and have no idea what your speed is or any other critical indication. Apim stands for accessory protocol interface module, also known as the Ford sync computer. It's a key component of the sync system in Ford vehicles. Ford has equipped vehicles with the apim since its inception, but there have been complaints and recalls related to it.

8 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 11/03/2024

Power train failed and truck began to jerk and I lost control of the throttle. I had to throw myself (the truck) on the shoulder to avoid danger. Blinking lights on the dash board occurred. San leandro Ford diagnosed issue as bad transmission and replaced it in November 2024. Inspected on site by authorized dealer. Told me customer problem must pay to have it replaced!! when I tried contacting national Ford representative and bill brandt dealership in brentwood where purchased in oct. 2016, no one wanted to take responsibility.

9 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2022 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 10/29/2024

The main dashboard screen either works delayed after starting, and also unknowingly screen freezes. Have almost backed up into another vehicle not knowing screen was frozen, have been into shop 4 times for repair and not once has been repaired.

10 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 08/24/2024

While driving at approximately 35 mph, the blind spot warning and rear traffic warning system indicated that there was a failure to the system. I parked the truck and then tried to restart the vehicle. The truck would not start. When it was diagnosed at the dealer, they found a faulty lead frame in the transmission. This part was then replaced. I have checked with Ford and my vehicle is not being recalled at this time. I have seen other recalls involving lead frame in other Fords that have the same transmission as mine.

11 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2021 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 08/01/2024

I am writing to bring to your attention a critical safety issue affecting my 2021 Ford F-150, caused by a recent sync software update. On or around August 2024, Ford issued a software update that has resulted in significant malfunctions in multiple vehicle systems, including intermittent freezing and non-responsiveness shortly after vehicle startup. These issues persist for several minutes, severely impairing safety features—most notably the federally mandated backup camera that all vehicles sold after 2018 are required to have for driver and pedestrian safety. Following Ford's issuance of a recall number, I scheduled a service appointment with my local dealership and was later informed that Ford's specified service procedures would incur additional charges since my vehicle is now out of warranty. Ford has indicated that rolling back to a previous software version is not an option, as only Ford has access to the software. The company further requires an official diagnostic assessment at an estimated cost of $500 to $1,000 to even consider covering part of the repair costs. This approach is unreasonable, given that the malfunction originates from Ford’s own software update and directly impacts the safe operation of the vehicle. This is especially concerning as it compromises the backup camera and other critical driver-alert systems, which could lead to severe injury or even fatalities if the issue remains unaddressed. This issue is not isolated; a significant number of Ford F-150 owners are reporting similar problems on public forums, where Ford has acknowledged the software defect but has not offered a resolution without additional financial burden on affected customers. Given the safety risks posed by the non-functional backup camera and the importance of fully operational driver alert systems, I urge the NHTSA to investigate this matter. Ford’s reluctance to address this defect without cost to owners directly undermines the federally mandated safety standards that.

Rear back up camera does not work and says contact dealer. Goes from blue screen to camera is unavailable please contact dealership.

13 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2023 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 04/11/2024

14 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2021 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 03/21/2024

Tail lamp assembly both sides, allowing moisture within the lighting assembly potentially resulting in short circuit or fire if water comes in contact with electrical connections.

15 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2022 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 03/19/2024

This 2021 f150 is equipped with Ford bluecruise. More than one time the truck has tried to leave the road while engaged. It also has a very dangerous trait - when the bluecruise is active and the system wants the driver to take control, the amount of force it takes to take control of the steering wheel often causes the truck to swirve to another lane of traffic. This is a huge saftey concern and has caused many near miss accidents at high speed, for me.

16 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2017 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 03/07/2024

While driving, the rear window opened up by itself and would not close. Controls were dead. Found a wire bundle (not a harness) which runs from the body control module to several sensors, including the 110v power converter, were worn through shorting out. The wiring lies in a channel along the rocker panel on the interior of the vehicle. The wiring is not protected from abrasion which led to the abrasion of the wires shorting out. Since 110v is running along this same channel, the potential for a fire is high, plus shorting 110v ac with 12v DC.

17 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 02/29/2024

On 3/28/2024 while driving at interstate speed of 70 mph. Truck down shifted from 6th to 5th gear momentarily locking break brakes. Cross traffic light warning, blind spot warning, check engine light all illuminated at moment of downshift. The gear indicator light was no longer visible. The transmission position drive, neutral, reverse etc. Was no longer illuminated. Additionally, the climate controls loss lighting. The down shift was so violent, traffic had to swerver into the median to avoid rear end collision. After pulling to the shoulder, I turned the truck off. With the truck in the off position, I depressed the brake to efforts to restart the truck; however, the brake pedal was solid, and truck could not be restarted. You could only place truck into accessory mode. I disconnected the battery and waited 5 min and reconnected it. The truck then started and all dash alarms cleared. I cautiously drove home with no issue. On 3/29 I took the truck to Ford dealership joe cooper 600 w memorial rd, oklahoma city, ok 73114 (405) 475-9000. On the way to the Ford dealership the truck again down shifted unexpectedly. Knowing the truck would not restart I drove the truck in 5th gear at slow speed 25mph and the truck would not down shift lower that5th. The dealership was able to catch codes on a scan and told me it would be as early as 4/1 before they could investigate. The stated most of the time the reflash the system. This is unacceptable as a root cause. If the software is a fault and it can randomly become corrupt while drive at a random given date. This issue requires Ford to be held accountable. On 3/30 and I stood in shock when on cbs news a story came out that 2014 trucks are experiencing the same thing. I can prove my truck was in the shop and my story is documented from dealer prior to any news story. I hope my information drives further investigation and that it helps to save an accident or god forbid a death.

18 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2019 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 02/23/2024

The first item to malfunction was the transmission gear indicator on the dash, that started about a year after I bought the truck and would intermittently work. I had multiple oil changes in the truck at various dealers and brought it up but nothing ever came up from it since it was intermittent. Then in 2023 a warning popped up that the blind spot indicators were malfunctioning. I was planning to bring it in to be looked at but did not have time to with work and family. Then at 95,000 miles the transmission failed while towing a loaded trailer and began to shift erratically, sending the engine to extremely dangerous rpm levels while trying to downshift. Every gear began to clunk into place with a severe jerking motion and then eventually could only be operated with any sort of safety at low speeds. There were initially no warning lamps that popped up for the transmission failure either. It went out at night 2. 5hours away from my home so I spent 15minutes limping it to a gas station at low very low speeds. Only moving it around a bit the next day did it show any warning and it just said to see the dealer.

19 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 09/15/2023

Unknown called a Ford dealership and they stated 2 other vehicles of the same year/make/model had similar issues. They couldn't find the issue. The touch screen radio got super hot to the point of not being able to touch it. Can't control the radio or climate from main panel. Can't lock or unlock truck manually or with key. Can't roll down windows from drivers side or adjust mirrors. Blind spot warning came on and at the same time all the tire pressure sensors lit up on the dash as well as the parking aid warning and airbag light. Worried about the risk of airbag deploying without cause, or fire from the radio getting so hot.

20 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2022 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 09/15/2023

Tail lights with blis crack at the manufacturing seam of the light, causing critical safety features to not function. Additionally, water penetrates light and causes electrical shortage. Well known issue amongst truck enthusiasts.

21 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2020 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 09/01/2023

The plastic housing for the rear tail light cracked without any accident or stress and water intrusion occurred resulting in a blown sensor module that in turn caused massive issues with how the truck ran. Electrical components would not function including safety features like airbags and windows.

22 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2023 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 07/16/2023

Issue #1: rain sensing wiper function is completely inoperable. Wipers must be operated manually. Issue #2: blinker stalk becomes stuck in off and on positions. This malfunction has put myself and others at risk because the vehicle, at times, is unable to inform others on the road of the appropriate vehicle lane change. This risk has become heightened in periods of warm weather, where the stalk becomes "more stuck" than usual. The dealership has replicated the issue and attempted to resolve several times; after several months of waiting for a solution from Ford and recent near-misses on highway trips, I have decided to escalate with Ford as well as with NHTSA. The vehicle has no warning lights nor signals warning any user that an error with the blinker stalk may occur while driving. Issue #3: left side blind side monitor false readings when there is no vehicle on driver side blind side. Dealer unable to verify. False positives desensitize driver to true positives, therefore, this is an added risk.

23 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/30/2023

Vehicle has a catastrophic design flaw. If water enters the led bliss tail light assembly even in small amounts for anreason, including due to manufacturing defects, minor damage such as a crack, e treme wet weather, or wear and tear of seals, then numerous electrical failures occur of the entire warning system. This includes not only the tail lights, and blind spot backup and cross traffic systems, but catastrophic failure of all dashboard door and window controls. The vehicle cannot be easily unlocked including with remote, climate and accessories cannot be controlled. They vehicle can barely be operated and great expertise and expense required to return the vehicle to proper service. This has happened twice to this vehicle in 2022. Both times it was from minor damage to the taillight lens. Water entered the connectors for a network system which is critical to numerous vehicle safety and critical systems which are completely digital. The part required replacing is available only from a dealer as an oem part and cost $500 plus labor. Research shows this is a widespread confusing problem, which renders high end models nearly inoperable with uncontrollable systems other than basic engine functions and subjecting consumers to great inconvenience and expense. The manufacturer does not appear to have offered recall services and only will repair or replace if the item fails under warranty. Under any interpretation this problem is a gross failure in engineering and safety. What other vehicles with a minor taillight problem have failure of a majority of systems? so many codes are thrown that the average technician and consumer must bear great expense to repair for diagnosis, and then replacement with extremely expensive parts only available from dealer.

24 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 05/10/2023

Vehicle randomly shifts into 1st or 2nd gear while driving at highway speeds. The wheels lock up and skid, then enters into limp mode. After the incident, the vehicle displays a "check manual," "blind spot detection," and "cross-traffic sensor" light display. After a few minutes in limp mode, the vehicle will correct itself and begin driving normally. This happens 70% of the times I drive the vehicle. I have taken it to the Ford dealer 3 separate times. The warranty company won't fix it because when they drive it, it doesn't recreate the issue, and they tell me to keep driving it until the transmission goes out completely.

25 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 05/01/2023

Backup camera not working.

26 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2021 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 04/26/2023

In April 2023, while driving to work, at least a dozen error messages were displayed on the instrument cluster. When I arrived at work and was driving at a slower speed, I noticed some irregular feedback in the steering wheel and quickly realized the power steering was intermittently disabling itself. The truck had just rolled over 30k miles at this point and was well within the manufacturer's warranty period. I took the truck to the dealer for repair and got the truck back within a few days and was told it was repaired. The very next morning while driving to work again, the same problem ensued again with a dozen error messages and the power steering intermittently disabling itself. I took the truck bad to the dealer, contacted Ford customer care, and they got an engineering team to help work the problem. The service advisor also told me there were 3 other vehicles at their dealer with the same problem. After more than 30 days of being at the dealer for repair, the truck was returned to me again. Everything seemed to be fine for a couple months and then it returned again with many error messages and power steering failures. On Monday this week I started to pull out in traffic and the power steering disabled and caused me to cross the 2-lane road into oncoming traffic.

27 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 04/04/2023

While driving there is a hard "clunk" sound then blind spot system, cross traffic system fault and see manual alert comes on. Truck loses power and shifts out of d (acts as if in neutral). Has happened about 7 or 8 times now. Very scary situation and can be tragic if this situation happens at high speed. I have done some research and I know there have been recalls for transmission lead frames on older model F-150's. Sounds and feels to be the exact same situation for my 2015 F-150.

28 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 03/16/2023

While the vehicle was running, it spontaneous entered "limp mode". The wrench light came on the instrument cluster and warned that the blind spot and rear collision systems were offline. The gear selector indicator also disappeared. After the vehicle was shut off, it would not restart for numerous attempts. When it did, it was being driven to the dealership when the same series of events occurred at a red light. Afterwards, the truck struggles to accelerate. The dealership has diagnosed a lead frame failure, which was a recall on the previous generation f150s. Based off discussions online, it seems that this is common.

29 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2019 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 02/22/2023

Backup camera faulty shows blurry screen when putting truck in reverse also sometimes shows no picture and just different colors on screen. 2019 f150, 20k miles.

30 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2020 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 02/07/2023

The blindspot system, cross tragic system, airbags, and climate control all were disabled intermittently. Climate control disabled allowed my windows to fog up impairing visibility which posed immediate danger of collisions. I read an online forum and found that my tail light had water in it which created a short to all those systems.

31 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 02/06/2023

Sunroof / moonroof went to a 3rd party company in business for over 50 years and have had several Ford F-150 vehicles with same sunroof issues that come in weekly. Ford specialist was able to give me a description of the issue and due to pricing shopped around and found out I am not the only one having this sunroof issue with screws coming off and sun roof getting stuck all the time.

32 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2022 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 02/02/2023

Rear camera displaying a very cloudy picture. Almost can't see what is behind vehicle.

33 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2017 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 11/10/2022

I had a problem that would cause my transmission to randomly downshift or slip into neutral while in drive. When this happened it would also disengage cruise controll and would disengage the blind spot monitoring system. Took it to the dealership and they confirmed it was a faulty molded lead frame. I had them replace the part. But was doing research and saw where they have had similar recalls on previous years.

34 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2018 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 10/13/2022

I was driving on the highway at 65 mph. A warning light came on saying my driver's side blind spot warning was not working. Then immediately a warning light with a wrench came on and said that there was a problem with the transmission. Then my truck shut down completely. It is not able to start, and the Ford dealer says they have no idea why.

35 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 10/05/2022

While driving at speeds between 10 and 55 mph, I lose power and have to try to drift safely to the side of the road. Multiple dash lights come on (blindspot system fault, cross traffic system fault, see manual) and my drive indicator light strobes across all gears prndlm21 randomly. Some of the time the vehicle acts like it is in neutral. Other times it can inch forward at 5mph. My safety is put at risk because I lose all power control while in traffic! I have had it in the Ford dealer shop for more than 6 weeks. It's been in there twice for the same problem and they cannot find a specific problem. Prior to this happening, there were not any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms. I have had to be towed from the side of the road twice now. Approximately 10 other times, I was able to wait for a period ranging from 5 - 30 minutes and then the vehicle was able to move again.
