Engine Exhaust System problems of the 2001 Ford F-250

Seven problems related to engine exhaust system have been reported for the 2001 Ford F-250. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Engine Exhaust System problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2011

I am an owner of a 2001 F-250 super duty, I have had the problem with spark plug ejection from the heads of my motor. The first time this happened was with the oem plugs still in the motor, the second time I had the blow out repaired already and all plugs were replaced but yet again a little over a year later the plug in another hole blew out. This time I had all holes patched with a stainless steel insert. Both times I had to pay well over $50. 00 for towing and the last repair bill was in excess of $800. 00. I am a full time student and single father I do not have the resources to pay for constant repairs because of an engineering problem with oem equipment, from what I have seen on the internet and told by my mechanics this is happening to almost every vehicle with these types of motors. Thank you for your time and effort in looking into this matter.

3 Engine Exhaust System problem

Failure Date: 03/16/2010

My 2001 f 250 super duty pick up with a 5. 4 motor spit out the number 3 spark plug. It caused me to have my vehicle towed, the # 3 coil pact replaced along with all the spark plugs and the coil pact boots. I heard a loud pop which caused me to pull over immediately , it sounded like a real bad exhaust leak. I have never had anything like this happen to me in 28 years of driving and working on vehicles. The dealer have to put in a heli coil and replace parts as stated.

4 Engine Exhaust System problem

Failure Date: 11/23/2009

I own a 2001 Ford f250 super duty with a 5. 4l triton v-8 engine, automatic transmission, 2wd, 137 inch wheelbase, standard emission, with no aftermarket modifications and approximately 114,000 miles. I was driving at approximately 60mph when I heard a loud bang from under the hood, the engine lost power and sounded like the exhaust had come off the engine. Upon inspection, I discovered that the number 8 spark plug had blown completely out of the engine and damaged the ignition coil. The threads where the spark plug screw into the head were damaged, but repairable. I replaced the spark plug and coil. Even though there was no fire or injury in my particular case, the possibility for such is likely if this problem is systemic. When the spark plug blows out of the cylinder head, it can be done with a lot of force, which could cause injury/death, depending upon the proximity of people at the time. Also, when a spark plug comes out of the cylinder head, gas fumes released may become ignited by sparks from the coil or spark plug wires, resulting in a engine compartment fire. The old parts are available for inspection if necessary.

5 Engine Exhaust System problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2008

My Ford truck started making a clicking noise from the engine compartment. Then approximately 2 weeks later while driving down the highway at 65mph there was a loud pop and then a loud exhaust sound. The engine threw the number 3 spark plug on the passenger side. It was fixed with an insert but blew the insert out a month later. Has not been fixed yet after the second one.

6 Engine Exhaust System problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2008

On Sunday, August 14, 2008 I was driving my 2001 Ford F-250 with a 5. 4 liter engine and I heard a loud pop which was followed by a loss of power and a noise that sounded like a large exhaust leak. When I opened the hood I noticed one of the spark plugs had blown out of the head and had broken the coil, ripped the spark plug boot and stripped the head. This is the second time in 1 1/2 years that I have had a spark plug blow out of the head. (these were two different spark plugs). This is a costly repair and many others have had the same problem. I contacted Ford and they told me there was nothing they could do to help me and then tried to sell me a new vehicle instead of fixing the one I have.

7 Engine Exhaust System problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2006

- the contact has a blown head gaske, and white smoke was coming from exhaust system. Temperature gauge was up due to mixture of antifreeze in oil. The contact noticed smoke coming out while driving at normal speed and weather conditions. Van has been serviced on several occasions and problem still exist.
