Front Seat Belt Buckle Assembly problems of the 2002 Ford F-250

The contact owns a 2002 Ford F-250. The contact stated while driving ata any speed, the driver side seat belt detached independently. The contact stated that if the seat belt were to detach during a crash, it could cause life threatening injuries. The contact located a recall for the seat belts (NHTSA camping id number: 01v227001 seat belts:front:buckle assembly ) but the recall was for the 2001 model and not the 2002 model. The contact stated that the vehicle should have been included in the recall because the consumer experienced the exact same consequence as stated in the recall for the 2001 model F-250. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 120,000. Updated 03/11/11.

Driver's side safety belt intermittently releases and retracts automatically. I have had the problem since I purchased the vehicle new from the dealer. At first I assumed that I had not properly seated the male end into the female end. Eventually, I developed a habit of seating the buckle and then tugging firmly on the belt to ensure that it was securely connected. The problem has persisted and upon bringing the vehicle in for repair, I have found that the warrantee is expired and I will have to pay for a new seat belt from the same company that sold me a faulty one in the first place. I believe that this is a safety issue and Ford is apparently not concerned about the safety of their vehicles in this case. I have had the truck for three and a half years and have under 70000 miles on it. I have never had a vehicle that had this problem, nor have I heard of seat belt latching mechanisms wearing out.
