36 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/19/2021

I was driving down the highway at approximately 65 mph and my left front wheel began to shake violently, wobble, and bounce out of control. I tried to apply my brakes and the condition got worse. I ended up in the oncoming lane's ditch by the time I was able to stop. Fortunately there was no oncoming traffic because during this event I was unable to steer until the vehicle came to a complete stop. I've heard from other people that Ford super duty's frequently have what is a called a "death wobble" and I would certainly consider this event to be the same.

37 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/18/2021

At speeds over 50 mph severe shaking occurs and the truck becomes uncontrollable until speed is reduced to below 45 mph. The truck's steering does not respond and cannot control the truck. At this point I can only drive the truck at speeds at or below 45 mph. The issue occurred on a highway during the day. Ambient temperature was 52 degrees and there was no rain. The road area I was traveling through was known for uneven road surface and could cause some shaking in this truck and in other vehicles I've driven but never to this extreme. The severe shaking started while the truck was at 65 mph (70 mph zone) and braking also became difficult. I had to keep off the gas and let the truck slow itself to a stable speed then I exited the highway. The truck is a 2014 Ford F-250 with approximately 109400 miles on it. The auto shop I will take it to tomorrow said that this is a common problem with these trucks and that I should report it.

38 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2021

When I hit a smal bump in road travel 60 mph front end of vehicle vibrated violently as well as steering wheel out of control. Could barely keep control of steering wheel. Was on interstate highway had to come to complete stop.

39 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/31/2020

While driving, I experience a severe and horrifying death wobble in my steering wheel, at which time the entire front end of my truck violently shakes. It becomes difficult to control it and forces me to apply my brakes in order to regain control. This has been happening for about 8 months and happens often. It happens at various speeds. Nobody appears to know how to fix it.

40 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2020

While accelerating on the entrance ramp to get on the highway, my 2014 Ford F-250 superduty with 142,000 miles began to violently shake uncontrollably. I had barely reached 45-50 miles per hour when it happened. The shake was strong enough to throw my hands off the steering wheel. I was able to safely slowdown and pull the truck off the road thereafter. I am concerned about the drivability of this truck and have raised a concern with Ford and the dealer that sold me the truck.

41 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/24/2020

Vehicle will have violent shaking at highway speeds know as a "death wobble". Death wobble happened at different speeds and on different road terrains. This issues also happened when at highway speeds and braking around curves.

Driving at 70 miles per hour on a state hwy my front end started shaking violently. It almost caused me to crash ,I applied the brakes but made it worse. Finally was able to regain control and stopped.

44 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2020

My 2014 f250 has since around 80k miles had an uncontrollable wobble when at low highway speeds hitting even the smallest bump in the road. After multiple alignments and tire changes my dealer admitted that its known as "death wobble" and I need to do thousands of dollars in repairs that are very common. I am at 140k now and they finally admited that its a systemic problem.

45 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/17/2020

When driving approximately 58mph on city roads or interstate a slight vibration starts and turns into an uncontrollable wobble in front tires and steering wheel. No way to power thru the vibration you have to come to almost a complete stop at times for wobble to stop.

46 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/04/2020

I was accelerating up the on-ramp onto a freeway when I encountered some rough pavement on the overpass. The front of the truck began to shake violently. I had difficulty holding onto the steering wheel and the truck began heading toward the right side grassy median. I was able to slow by letting off the accelerator. I was afraid that braking might cause me to lose control altogether. At reduced speed the shaking stopped. Looking in my mirror I could tell that the driver behind me saw what was happening and had backed off some distance from me. I have felt the shaking several times since the original occurrence but it has not been as violent as the first time.

47 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/30/2020

At approximately 181,000 this vehicle exhibited "sustained steering wheel oscillation" (aka death wobble). The vehicle was taken to a non-Ford ase certified mechanic and repaired per Ford TSB 18-2268, but did not correct the problem. Ford has claimed this vehicle is not on their list of vehicles subject to correction or mitigation. The only suspension modifications were aftermarket brakes and shocks (I. E. High quality components). The vehicle now has approximately 184,000 miles and still exhibits severe oscillations when traveling over a bump or rough surface, causing hazardous driving conditions and danger to other vehicles when a sudden slow-down or stop is needed to regain control of the vehicle.

48 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2020

Death wobble while driving on highway front end shakes uncontrollable.

49 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2020

My truck suffers from the death wobble that is usually triggered by hitting a bump, pothole or dip in the road. Usually occurs when going full speed (50-75 mph). The only way to stop it is to slow down and pull off the road, nearly to a stop. This has happened about a dozen times. I note it happens more often when tires have more wear on them. Rarely happens with new tires.

50 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2020

Multiple times before the occurrence yesterday , I would hit a bump and it would seem like the front of the truck would skip a little, replaced shocked and steering damper , 6 months later I hit a little bump going about 70 mph and the steering wheel started to shake vigorously and I almost lost control of the vehicle . This is very dangerous and needs to be addressed by Ford especially since the infamous death roll has been affecting these vehicles for over a decade .

51 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2019

2014 f250 diesel experiences multiple death wobbles while driving on highway at speeds over 60mph and passing over expansion joint on bridge or other like crevices. Felt like the front end was falling apart with violent front end shaking, had to slow down to 35 mph to regain control of the vehicle. Took truck to dealer and had to pay $150. 00 for diagnosis. Ford claims all front end suspension parts need replacing as well as a front end alignment. The truck has just over 100k miles on it and is mostly highway miles. It's just out of an extended warranty and Ford estimates the repairs at over $1,300. 00 with no guarantees that this will solve the problem. This is a design flaw by Ford. I've owned Ford trucks for many many years and have never experienced this in any of the past super duty's that I owned.

52 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2019

Driving at highway speed 65-70 mph on CA-99 on 11-30-2019 between bakersfield and fresno I experienced several "death wobbles. " this vehicle was repaired for this problem at future Ford in sacramento, CA. On 03oct19 by replacing steering damper and track bar. Also an alignment was done. Evidently the problem still persists on certain occasions.

53 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2019

2014 Ford f250 VIN # [xxx]. The death wobble occurred 1st time on 11/3/19 with my son driving around 10:00 a. M. On 11/09/19 approximately 11:00 p. M with myself driving home. Went over a bridge that was just replaced this summer about 3 miles from home on st, rt. 729, sabina, ohio 45169. About 1/2 from burristown rd. Which I turned to the right. I was slowing down for my turnoff and complete shaking of the truck. It has had a shake over bumps and bridges but nothing like the whole truck violently shaking. I have an appointment with bedford Ford in washington c. H. , 43160 on Wednesday 11/13/19 to replace all 4 tires and to look at the front end. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

54 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2019

2014 f 250 superduty. On highway 75 mph came off over overpass at expansion joint to asphalt and truck stated shaking violently. Let off of gas pedal and managed to get over to slow lane, problem straightened itself out on its own when I slow to about 25-30 mph. Had tires checked and rebalanced. Has happened a few more times, again same circumstances. From what I have seen online it's called the Ford death wobble. Taking to shop hopefully can make it safe again.

55 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2019

When in motion at highway speeds (60mph +) my truck will violently shake and wobble if a small bump is hit. It looses steering control and is not even close to safe. You have to come to a stop to get the shaking and out of control wobble to stop.

56 Steering problem

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Ford F-250. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph and after driving over a bump in the road the front end began to shake, vibrate and wobble causing the driver to lose control of the steering and crash into a ditch. During the incident no injuries were reported. The contact was able to continue driving the vehicle. The failure had also occurred on several other occasions. The failure mileage was 140,000. The VIN was unavailable.

57 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2019

I have experienced the Ford death wobble on my 1997 f350 and my 2014 f250. At 45 mph plus, hitting sometimes imperceptible bumps can cause the suspension and steering to develop a very violent vibration. I almost lose control and have to brake very hard to get it to stop. I am afraid I am going to crash or be hit from behind when braking. Ford made some suspension repairs under my extended warranty, but these repairs made the problem much worse. I took the truck back and they blamed my tires, saying they are almost worn out. I complained that I should have several thousand more miles on these tires and there was either a design problem or something broken. They refuse to accept responsibility and told me there is no other choice but to change my tires. I put new tires on for $1,300 and I still have the problem. It is less severe and happens less frequently, but it is still definitely there. I am afraid to drive my truck but have no choice.

58 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2019

When driving at 40mph and above, the pickup sometimes goes into a violent steering shake or "death wobble" as I've seen it refered to. A quick internet search reveals that this is a common problem among Ford superduty pickups, and Ford apparently has no remedy for the problem.

59 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/16/2019

I experienced death wobble at 70 mph going over a bridge expansion joint. Had to hold the wheel with both hands and get down to 25 mph before I could regain control. My 2014 has 75,500 miles. Just ordered new tires and got exact replacements as I don't want to give Ford an excuse. This is my 12th Ford and now have a vehicle my family is not allowed in for $45k. I have had many steering and suspension parts wear out and get loose in other Fords, but never has any wear forced my off the road and not allow my family in the vehicle. If Ford doesn't fix this problem I will have a new GMC in a couple weeks. I have calls out to the owner of my local dealer, but no response ye.

60 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2019

Death wabel.

61 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/20/2019

2014 Ford F-250 6. 7l lariat super duty - 73,000 miles I purchased it about 55,000 miles. 100% stock, no lift or anything like that. It started a shimmer in the front end of the vehicle when going over small bumps in the road going over 55mph. I now get a tremendous shake, ie probably the "death wobble" and have to slow down to 20mph for it to stop shaking before it takes me off the road. I lose full control until it stops. I rotate my tires with each oil change and always make sure it is properly aligned. Once it happened when hauling my 40ft 5th wheel but luckily I had a quiet interstate and was able to hold on for dear life until I got it all slowed down, this happened going 65mph driving straight. This has now happened 5 times in the last 9 months / 10,000 miles. Most miles are put on going under 55mph so I'm sure it would happen more if I was driving at higher speeds. This issue is definitely not normal and needs to be addressed by Ford before someone gets hurt.

62 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/25/2019

Death wobble started at higher speed. Has progressively gotten worse. Everything is tight in the front end. Changed ball joints both wheel bearings track bar and bushing and steering dampener and nothing has helped. Happened on 2 sets of tires.

63 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2019

I bought this vehicle in Dec. 2017 with 17,000 miles on it, and it now has 30,000 miles on it. On Feb 11,12 while driving in akron ohio at around 65 mph I hit a bump and the front end started shaking so fiercely I could hardly control the truck. My wife was with me and was terrified. If she was driving it she would have never been able to control it and would probably been involved in a horrible and most likely a fatal accident. My problem is that I'm finding out that this has been a problem for a while now and Ford isn't doing anything about or as my dealership service department said when I dropped it of this morning, doesn't think it's a safety issue. This truck has done this numerous times in the 13,000 miles since I've owned it. I've had it looked at each and the place I took it to can't find anything loose, however the one time they replace the steering damper and that seemed to help for a little while. Something needs to be done, this cannot simply be a tire inflation issue which by the way I'm pretty religious about checking on a regular basis. Thank you joseph hennessey.

65 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2018

This problem start in 12/2018. When driving on the highway, the vehicle will all of a sudden start shaking uncontrollable. The only way to rectify the problem is to slow down and pullover in the breakdown lane and stop. This option is sometimes not available and the situation is extremely dangerous. After spending a great deal of money this problem has not been fixed. Over the last several months, this situation has happened many, many times. I have read online about this problem, and it seems to be a issue that Ford is well aware of. Mulitple people have referred to it as the "death wobble". As recently as the past week I was experiencing this issue. I brought the truck in on Monday, Aug 26th picked up Tuesday, Aug 27th, drove off the lot, got on the highway and the "death wobble" happened again. This issue is very dangerous and I feel someone could get seriously hurt or even killed. I have spent $5,758. 87 in repairs since December and problem still not fixed. Tried downloading receipts, do not think I was able to download off of them.

66 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/11/2018

My Ford truck typically experiences the death wobble when traveling more than 50 mph and at least one of the tires hits a groove or bump in the road. The only way I know to control the violent shaking is by quickly reducing speed, which is very dangerous in traffic.

67 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2018

At high speeds hitting pot holes or bridge decks, front end wobbles uncontrollably. It's referred to as (death wobble) need to hit the brakes hard to stop it. Very dangerous. Ford knows about the problem and is turning a blind eye. Crashing on the freeway at those speeds could be catastrophic. Some vehicles have as little as 20000 miles on them, mine has 51000. Just put new tires, front shots and steering stabilizer on it. Still have the problem. Please google (2014 Ford f250 super duty front end issues). Us consumers are paying big, big money for these vehicles. $700000 in some cases. I paid 40000 and I'm afraid to drive it. All I want is for Ford to face the fact's and fix it. Before some gets killed! I wrote to william Ford at Ford motor company a week ago but have not heard back. I can't stress to you enough what a dangerous issue this is. I would love to take my truck to the Ford motor company and have jim hackett drive it, then I would be fixed. Just a side note, there was a consumer in silsbe texas that noted the service writer at silsbe Ford said that she doesn't know why Ford doesn't fix this because it is such a big problem. In closing please, please, please look into this issue and hold Fords feet to the fire. Thank you.

68 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2018

The contact owns a 2014 Ford F-250. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the front-end of the vehicle was shaking violently. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact called the local dealer but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

69 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2018

Violent steering wheel wobble and cab vibration when hitting uneven surface driving at highway speeds (55-70mph. ) when the wobble occurs, it is impossible to steer and the only remedy is to slow as quickly as possible to around 40mph for the wobble to go away and regain control. The mileage when it started was approximately 40k and has progressively gotten worse. Now with 67k I have actually been forced off the road as I couldn't steer it away from the median. As soon as my speed dipped to approximately 40mph I regained control and was able to get back onto the freeway and proceed to the next exit for inspection. Initial diagnosis is bad ball joints on both front end sides. Be prepared to slow to 40mph quickly on a busy freeway if this ever occurs to you.

70 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2018

My truck at around 15000 miles had some wobble after hitting bumps on highway. I took it in for its 25000 mile check up and stated this as well as poor economy or 1 or so. They said nothing was wrong. . . Well at 27000 miles it was shaking so violent I demanded it be brought in for service it was going to kill someone! groove Ford looked it over (who bought it from) and said the entire front end was worn out and was not covered because now it was 40 day past the 3 year. Even thought they told me to wait, and it was 9000miles under the millage!! I finally got Ford to pay for 2000 and the groove Ford paid nothing I paid 700. They very day I got it back I was then hearing a noise turning sharply left on steering wheel rotation. I was told that another $700 and nothing to do with what they did. They sold me a after market warranty that they never intended to honor and did not cover my problems. Which should be fraud. Every ones always gone or on vacation. Still no refund on it and now I look to trade in the problem.
