19 problems related to steering wheel vibrate have been reported for the 2018 Ford F-250. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2020

While driving the vehicle on the highway traveling approximately 60 mph the steering wheel began shaking violently and was difficult to control. The shaking stopped once decelerated to approximately 40 mph. It lasted about 15 seconds. The truck seems to steer normal now.

2 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2020

My 2018 f250 king ranch has started the death wobble at just over 55,000 miles. It has done it at least 5 times now going 60-75mph if I hit a bump or pothole. When it starts, the steering wheel shakes back and forth and the vehicle can not be controlled until I slow to almost a complete stop. The most recent time, I almost hit a guard rail. I have taken the truck back to my local Ford dealership and they agreed to replace the steering damper, but told me the part was on backorder. I ended up getting one from napa and replaced it on my own, I do not feel safe driving this truck. Ford has a problem and refuses to acknowledge it.

3 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2020

I am experiencing the death wobble with this truck. I purchased it used in January, 2020. It has approximately 48,000 miles now. While driving, when hitting bumps, the steering wheel shakes violently. No crash, but can be scary at higher speeds.

4 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 03/07/2020

While driving on interstate highway at 65 mph, we hit an expansion joint and the steering wheel began shaking so bad we almost hit the truck next to us. The highway was so crowded all I could do was brake and hang on. Finally when the speed was at 25 it quit violently shaking. Checked the truck out at the next exit and found nothing obvious. On the way home, it did the same thing again with the same result. I have not driven on the highway since because I am scared that we could cause an accident. We live in a rural area with the closest dealer 75 miles away, I will get it there in the near future but my question is, is Ford aware of the problem? the truck has less than 15000 miles, and should not be doing this. We are in our late 60's and I can only hope I can hang on if it happens again. Thank you jeffrey phelps.

5 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2020

While driving on interstate highway 70 in the middle of denver, we hit a small expansion joint. The steering wheel was shaking so violently I couldn?t hardly keep a hold of it to steer. I began braking and when I got down to 25 mph it stopped. My speed wasn?t excessive, I was doing the 65 mph limit. It has done this ? death wobble ? twice since then, and now I am apprehensive to drive it on the interstate. I will make an appointment with our local Ford dealer soon to look it over, but honestly I don?t have any hopes to a remedy. I was hoping to report this, and hopefully with the many others that are having the same issue, Ford may have to recall these trucks. Unfortunately, someone will have to perish to get any action from Ford. Thank you, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

7 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 01/26/2020

Driving down the highway at highway speeds. . . The steering wheel starts shaking uncontrollably. Research shows this to be what is called the death wobble. Been at Ford 3 times and it is still doing it. Extremely dangerous.

8 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2020

My 2018 f250 4x4 crew cab has 25,500 miles on it and has been in and out of the Ford dealer several times due to the "death wobble" issue. I almost lost control of the vehicle when it happened after hitting a small separating in the concrete on 1-75. The front end and steering wheel began to shake uncontrollably and the truck immediately begin to pull to the right. Luckily there was not a car in the right lane because there would have been an accident. As a result of this incident, I was immediately forced to pull off the road and stop the vehicle to access the situation. I got out to inspect all four tires thinking that I might have a flat tire. That was not the case. Ford should not be selling this vehicle at all until there is a design change to the front suspension. If my wife was driving when this happened I fear that she could of lost control and ended up in a major accident.

9 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 01/11/2020

Truck has a death wobble . . . Steering wheel shakes to the point of being uncontrollable. Happens when hitting a bump or ruff spot in road, train tracks, bumps on bridges. Can see where losing control would be very easy . God help if you had a loaded trailer hooked to it. . .

10 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2020

I was driving down us 1 north at approximately 70 mph, when I traveled across an uneven (rough patch) in my lane and my steering wheel along with what felt like the whole truck started violently shaking. I let go of the steering wheel slightly and quickly dropped my speed and then steered my truck to the shoulder of the highway. Once I composed myself, I recalled that the steering returned to normal once my speed was decreased to approximately 40mph. I made several notes immediately about what, when and where this happened. I immediately started calling my dealership to relay what had just happened and to make an appointment. After several appointments and 2nd opinions, no one has been able to resolve the problem. I have been told conflicting stories from Ford about the problem and it seems like this has happened to numerous people across the country. My wife refuses to drive this truck any longer. I've had every part of the steering (damper, linkage, caster, etc) checked and been told there is nothing wrong. I have spent lots of money trying to replace parts I thought could be the culprit. During this time, I have experienced this issue two more times. I was driving my stock ( no modifications) in normal conditions when this exact problem occurred again. The second time was while I was traveling down us1 south and crossed a bridge expansion joint traveling approximately 70mph, when my steering wheel started shaking so violently, I had to let go and just quickly apply the brakes to reduce the speed so I could again grasp the steering wheel and drive to the shoulder if the road. After 4 different mechanic shops and getting the "run around" from Ford, nothing has happened. I am currently putting a over $300 steering stabilizer on to help mask the problem if this happens once again.

11 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 12/31/2019

At speeds of 65mph and above, when hitting bumps in the road the vehicle begins to shake uncontrollably until you slow down to around 25mph or even stop completely. When this is happening, the steering wheel shakes so much that it is hard to hold on and bring the vehicle to a stop. It is very dangerous when traveling on an interstate and this begins to happen, as you are required to reduce your speed significantly which could absolutely cause a wreck as your trying to make it over to the shoulder safely. This has happened multiple times and is a complete surprise as to when it is going to happen. I now know what it is like to have the death wobble in the front end as I truly fear for my life when it happens. I have not been able to get video of the death wobble occurring, as I haven't had a second person with me when it has happened. Even when traveling at lower speeds (35mph-55mph) and going across bumps in the road, I still experience a wobble in the steering wheel however it does not go into the death wobble scenario where the whole truck begins to shake. I am however fearful that someday it will begin to start the death wobble at these lower speeds.

12 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 12/04/2019

Vehicle was being driven down the highway at approximately 70 mph when the front wheels and steering wheel started shaking violently. Brakes were applied and vehicle was pulled over to the shoulder. In the course of the event, all electrical power was lost. Vehicle was not able to be started until after a few minutes. Vehicle was taken to local Ford dealership where they found a defective steering stabilizer. Parts are not available through Ford for replacement and lead time is unknown at time of this posting.

13 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 11/25/2019

Vehicle steering wheel shakes violently at speeds over 65 when hitting a bump or uneven pavement, example that happened to me, was traveling on i80 going 70 mph went over a bridge on a slight curve and steering wheel started to shake violently and almost threw the truck out of control until I got the truck slowed down to 50 mph. Never experienced anything like this in my life. This is referred to death wobble on the internet and looks like many other f250 owners are having the same issues. Cannot believe there isn't a recall on this.

14 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 11/09/2019

This submission is the second notice of "death wobble' on my 2018 Ford F-250 truck. The truck had less then 14,000 miles on it. It occurred on November 9, 2019. I was merging into traffic on an interstate highway at about 65-70 mph and crossed a bridge joint which caused the front wheels and steering wheel to shake violently. I slowed the vehicle and was almost rear-ended by a 18 wheel semi-truck that couldn't maneuver as it was being passed by a second truck on one side and another merging car on the other. I knew what the had caused the issue as this was the second occurrence in one year. I contacted the Ford dealership on November 11th, 2019. They indicated they are aware of the dampener problem. I had them inspect the truck on November 16th at which time they ordered the parts to repair it. The same wobble occurred on November 15th while my wife was driving on a ramp from one expressway to another moving at approximately 55 mph. I returned to the dealership on 11/29/19 and they still didn't have the part. Two weeks later they notified me that they had the part. It was repaired on 12/16/19. They replaced the steering damper assembly, part no. Spo hc3z 3e651 f. They indicated the dampener is part of TSB 19-2274 and due to large number of vehicles with the same issue, the part is hard to obtain. My wife is now leery about driving the vehicle.

15 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2019

Truck has 16,000 miles on it. Purchased new from dealer. Within 1,000 miles experienced random front end shake, was occasional on rough road. Recently it occurred in one weekend 6 times. All on different interstate roads between pennsylvania and new jersey. Shook so hard and violently both fog lights cracked on the truck including one of the fog light mounts. Happens on any road. Happens any speed above 45mph. Concrete roads are the worst and bridge joints. Truck now looses grip when driving over bumps. Feels like on ice. Ciocca Ford will not warranty broken parts such as fog lights and one mount. They will not correct alignment issue due to steering stability issue aka death wobble. Truck now pulls to the right. Truck does not feel safe to drive with my children in it, especially in the snow season knowing any bump could set it off. I have tried all different air pressures still get death wobble. Still breaks truck traction on bumps. This wobble occurs even on secondary roads. The wobble causes steering wheel to shake back and forth 3-4 inches. The entire front of the truck vibrates and shakes. The wobble won't stop until speed is dropped below 35mph. This shake will cause loss of steering and control in any weather condition. When it occurs you have all you can do to hold the steering wheel, there is no turning ability when this occurs. The steering stabilizer is often quoted as the issue for this. I believe from my experience and research the shocks are also not adequate from the loss of traction steering. Steering linkage is also weak. Ford has a reengineered solution, however unknown availability. This truck is now a safety hazard to myself and others, and ciocca Ford is not offering a solution for the safety concern.

16 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2019

While driving at 65 mph I encountered a pot-hole and my steering wheel begin to shake violently! I was unable to steer the truck and crossed three lanes before I could get stopped. Fortunately I did not hit another vehicle or the barrier in the median. I reported the issue to west point Ford, in west point va, and took the truck to them. They returned the truck to me a few days later claiming that they could not find anything wrong. I had a second incident when I struck a patch of asphalt used to repair a pothole, and again the steering wheel started to shake uncontrollably and I was forced to stop in the middle of the road. I returned the truck to west point Ford where it stayed for over a week. They claimed to have made a repair to the steering dampener and told me that the problem was fixed. I had a third incident yesterday evening. I will be returning the truck to a Ford dealer once again.

18 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 01/31/2019

Experienced steering wheel oscillation (death wobble) this has occured while driving on the interstate after driving over an uneven pavement at speeds of 55, 65 and 70mph. The steering wheel shakes violently and lost steering and braking capabilities during the event. It stopped after I decelerated to about 40mph forth until I slowed to approximately 35mph. Ford does have a TSB out on the issue but they are only replacing parts that have worn out, not the hidden issue that is causing heavy duty suspension parts to wear out so quickly.

19 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2018

My 2018 Ford F-250 has the "death wobble". I purchased the truck in February 2018 and by December 2018 had driven less than 8,000 miles. While driving at 70 to 75 mph on an interstate highway, I crossed an expansion joint on a bridge and the front-end started bouncing uncontrollably and the steering wheel shaking violently. The shaking stopped after slowing to under 45 mph. I pulled to the side of the road and checked to see if a I had flat tire or other issue causing the problem. I called the Ford dealership, from which I purchased it, for resolution of the problem. They indicated it that they believe the problem was the steering dampener. I brought it to the dealership for repair on 12/30/18 and they kept it for a week. They indicated the "damper" would be replaced under TSB 18-2268. They kept the truck until 1/7/19 until parts arrived. The repair invoice (attached) indicated they'd replaced a failed steering linkage damper, part no. Spo hc3z 3e651 f - damper assembly. This was not caused by lack of maintenance or improper use of the equipment. It was very frightening. The uncontrollable vibration and the need to suddenly slow on an expressway was extremely dangerous. Several trucks and cars had to take evasive action to miss me while I pulled over.
