Seven problems related to tailgate have been reported for the 2018 Ford F-250. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-250 the contact stated while driving at various speeds the liftgate would unlock resulting in the gate falling down subjecting the contents of the flatbed to the roadway. The contact stated no warning lights was illuminated. The vehicle was diagnosed but not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of failure and told the contact that they were unable to assist. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.
Tailgate continues to unlatch on its own while in motion. Was supposed to be fixed during a recall.
My truck tailgate is opening without cause. It happened 3 times before a recall was supposedly completed in January and has happened 3 times since. Twice when pulling a trailer just after starting to backup. That last was when my car play malfunctioned with the apple phone. During troubleshooting work the tailgate opened while sitting in my driveway. I have damage to then gate caused by a trailer strike on 1 opening and the dealership is not helpful and has not taken this seriously. This will happen again. .
The tailgate is coming down while driving all by its self. It has already been crushed by a trailer that was being pulled and Ford will not cover the cost of the replacement.
While putting my f250 in gear (drive), the truck tailgate was automatically opened, which then crunched into my goose neck trailer when making a right hand turn. The tail gate has opened 3 time, without user intervention, in the first 6 weeks I've owned the vehicle.
3 times my tailgate has opened spontaneously. Twice while driving in rain on a highway, and once while driving in snow in town. I have been unable to replicate the problem myself. It seems to be random. I have 6000 miles on the vehicle now.
Truck has auto tailgate release. Truck was stationary. The tailgate has dropped / released twice by itself. Tailgate released and dropped while truck was not in park. One time this occured when I released the parking brake. When this happens I need to exit and close the tailgate. Concerned that when this happens cargo could drop out onto the road and cause an accident and or cargo could be stolen from the truck bed.
