Three problems related to cruise control have been reported for the 2002 Ford F-350. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Periodically, when setting the cruise control at different speeds, it won't immediately engage, which means that there is a loss of speed of around 5 mph. Then it will engage, kick down a gear, and accelerate super quick. Scary if you are not prepared.
Our 2002 F-350 cruise control engaged itself and went to full throttle while we were stopped. A four car fender bender was the result. Had this happened at higher speed, it could have been considerably more serious. The cruise control took over control of the vehicle!!.
The contact owns a 2002 Ford f350 super duty. While driving at any speed, the vehicle speed control will activate on its own. The only way to deactivate the cruise control is to stand on the brake pedal and press the off switch. The failure occurred intermittently, which almost caused a crash. The contact's wife has been able to shut off the cruise control before crashing into anyone. The dealer attempted to repair the failure, but was unsuccessful. The vehicle has been to the dealer on approximately six occasions, but there is no remedy. The failure mileage was 50,000 and current mileage was 70,000.
