Four problems related to power train have been reported for the 2004 Ford F-350. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Tl the contact owns a 2004 Ford F-350. The contact stated that while driving at 70 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact pulled the vehicle off to the side of the road and made multiple attempts to restart the vehicle however, the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where they diagnosed the vehicle with a defective fuel injection control module. Casa Ford (5815 montana Ave, el paso, TX 79925) and the manufacturer were contacted and informed of the failure. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not subjected to a recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 220,000.
The front end auto hub did not disconnect from 4 wheel drive. The position switch was at 2 wheel drive. The dash light showing 4 wheel drive was off. Nothing indicated the vacuum system had failed to correctly position the auto hub. The front hub gearing was destroyed. Noise and funny steering. An internet search indicated this is a common Ford problem and has been for years. It seems this problem could be avoided if the 4 wheel drive indication showed when the 4 wheel drive was engaged so the operator could take action rather than drive to auto hub failure.
The contact owns a 2004 Ford f350 super duty. When the contact changed gears, the clutch extended down to the floor and the transmission locked into neutral. He was able to move the vehicle onto the shoulder. The contact is a mechanic and stated that the cause of the failure was the master cylinder. The manufacturer stated that the vehicle was out of warranty; therefore, the replacement part was no longer available. The speed was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 83,000.
I recently attended a funeral for my nephew in omaha, ne. He had died on Monday, January 2, 2006 in bellevue, ne he was in a car wash and (according to some witnesses), the Ford f350 super duty diesel truck (I believe it was a 2004) suddenly went into reverse at a high speed and backed out of the car wash, across a street, across a lawn and onto a driveway with a wall. The truck was against the wall and the tires were still turning and the tires finally blew and caused a fire that consumed my nephew. I have heard that the autopsy report said that he died of smoke inhalation. He was badly burned. I don't know the cause of the accident. I 'm trying to get a copy of the police report from the bellevue police dept, but haven't heard from them yet. I don't know if this vehicle has any history of a similar problem, but I wanted to investigate the issue.
