2 Diesel Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2013

Coming home from a camping trip with a 5th wheel camper & truck just stopped working. Come to find out the stc fitting on high pressure oil pump shot apart & cracked rear timing cover. After being stuck on the highway for over 8 hours, stranded at the campground for 4 more days & $3000 to get it fixed, we then finding out that this is a common problem with this engine. This stc fitting has since been changed by the manufacturer so that it is one piece now, however there has not been a recall on it. We have several Ford vehicles and it is very upsetting to go through all of this when a simple recall could have avoided it. Thank you for your attention to resolving this matter & helping us get a refund for the $3000.

3 Diesel Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2011

The contact owns a 2005 Ford F-350. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds the vehicle would either stall or decelerate to approximately 5 mph. The vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop where they were unable to diagnose the failure. An independent mechanic then examined the vehicle and noticed that there were silver flakes settling in the fuel filter. The independent repair shop was then notified and the contact was informed that the silver flakes were a result of the delamination of the fuel tank. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and the contact was informed that diesel fuel was causing the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

4 Diesel Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2011

2005 f350 superduty powerstroke 6. 0 diesel with 53,000 miles continued to accelerate without operator control nearly causing rear-end collision while driving. Operator completed a turn and accelerated to the speed limit and when operator released the throttle the vehicle "took off" as if the accelerator had been depressed again. Operator came close to rear ending a passenger car in front of the operator so the operator immediately applied brakes and pulled out of traffic while truck continued attempt to acelerate. While truck was reving at high rpm operator put vehicle in "park" position and turned key to off shutting down engine completly. Engine restarted and continue to operate normally and contacted and delivered vehicle to the servicing Ford dealership. Operator states that the vehicle had prior "failure to shut down" and "failure to decel" issues but no "diagnostic code" was established for dealer to use as with possible current event.

5 Diesel Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/18/2011

De-lamination of aluminum coating in fuel tank. This sends silver particles into the fuel filter clogging said filter causing the vehicle to stall out or stop completely. Ford knows there is a problem but refuses to do anything. The vehicle has 72,000 miles. I will have to spend over $1,500 to get the problem fixed. The new tank is $1,200 and is on national back order. No telling when it will come in. My truck now sits waiting. I have done lots of research on this and I am not the only one with this problem. The dealer told me he has replaced 200 or more tanks already. I'm baffled as to why nothing has been done about this.

6 Diesel Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2011

The contact owns a 2005 Ford f350 sd diesel. The contact was driving 70 mph when the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who advised that the fuel injector control module was burned out. There were no recalls for the failure and the contact would be liable for repairs. The manufacturer was contacted and the contact was advised that someone would be in contact at a later date. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was 44,800.

7 Diesel Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2011

I have a 2005 Ford F-350 with a powerstoke. It only has about 100,xxx miles on it but the fuel tank delaminated and caused five injectors to go bad this is a safety concern. Not to mention a costly fix and Ford cant even fill the tank orders its been on back order for 6 weeks. This shouldn't happen on a truck that is only 5 years old.

8 Diesel Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/17/2011

Sudden loss engine shut down without warning collision averted. Ford f-30 2005,a failed ficm. Had already replaced previously 8 month earlier. Part must be defective.

9 Diesel Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2011

The contact owns a 2005 Ford F-350 super duty. While driving approximately 50 mph the contact attempted to accelerate further but the vehicle would not accelerate. The failure recurred whenever the contact attempted to accelerate beyond 50 mph. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was told the failure was due to the diesel fuel tank being delaminated. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 44,000.

10 Diesel Fuel System problem

The failure mileage was 55,000.

12 Diesel Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2009

My 2005 Ford f350 with the 6. 0 litre diesel broke down due to significant leakage in the high pressure oil system. When being repaired, the technician recommended that standpipes and orings be replaced with upgraded parts. This was very costly and could have caused the vehicle to stall and created a dangerous situation.

13 Diesel Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2009

Rough running, heavy smoke from exhaust, quit while on highway, would not restart. Garage found raw fuel in #1 cylinder, removed fuel, replaced #1 injector - o-ring seal was defective (the #1 and #2 injectors were also replace at 2983 miles on 10/20/04).

14 Diesel Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/27/2009

Fuel tank lining is peeling off causing failure to injectors/ pump and filters. Causes power loss in traffic which is unsafe. This has happened to me three times since August 2010 in interstate traffic. Ford claims bio-diesel is to blame, bio-diesel makers blame Ford. Personally this has cost me $2600 since Aug 2010. (replaced filters twice and 5 fuel injectors) truck is not running at this time due to the same problem. Estimated cost to repair $1200 minimum if injectors are okay. This is a problem that Ford is well aware of and should be sending notices to affected customers. Owners of these trucks have no way of knowing what percentage of bio-diesel or if any bio-diesel is in the fuel since it is not marked on the pumps. Fords solution is for the owner to buy a new fuel tank that is compatible with 5% bio-diesel.

15 Diesel Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2009

I own a 2009 F-350 super duty power stroke diesel 6. 0l. At approx. 30,000 miles the truck would have episodes of running rough maybe once every 50miles. I brought it to my mechanic who replaced the fuel filters and thought I might have gotten some bad diesel. Less than 1,000 miles later the truck ran much worse . It would begin running rough , losing power and sometimes stall. Once it occured as I was pulling on to a fast moving highway and I almost caused an accident bacause I could not accelerate. These episodes would occur once every ten miles and very quickly started occuring every mile. To make a long and expensive story short the protective coating on the inside of the fuel tank was peeling off and clogging fuel delivery. This problem is extremely common I have come to find out . My truck was just past its warranty period so I had no choice but to purchase another tank from Ford with no assurance it won't happen again. This is clearly poor and defective craftsmanship and dangerous.

16 Diesel Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/24/2009

I am uncomfortable with the dependability and safety of this 2005 Ford f350 6. 0 diesel truck. The high pressure oil lines, valves, pump, coupler and injector ends where the high pressure oil connect are failing in a large number of these 6. 0 diesel engines. Mine has had the valve and coupler replaced in seperate events. Both repairs cost over $1000. 00. Ford needs to be forced into designing a fix for these oil systems and recall them them. When any component of this high pressure oil system fail the engine quits running and the driver and occupents are sitting ducks. I wonder how many injuries or deaths have been related to these failures. No one should pay in excess of $40. 000. 00 for a truck and have to spend thousands ot dollars in repairs just after 100,000 miles and still have to worry about when and where the next failure will happen. I dont know if you can do anything for me but if I can help you in any way to get Ford to do the right thing, let me know. Thanks.

17 Diesel Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2009

2005 Ford f350 fuel tank lining peeled clogging total fuel system caused truck to breakdown and loose powersteering at high speed. Ford claims there is nothing wrong with gas tank but there has been thousands of the same incident.

18 Diesel Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2008

Engine filters get clogged up and cause the truck to run erratically and stall, caused from debris from a faulty fuel tank.

19 Diesel Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2008

I own a 2005 f350 4x4 crew cab power stroke diesel truck. I had the truck in for some warranty work just before it reached over 100. 00 miles. I had to have injectors replaced. I later found out that the fuel tank was delaminating. Silver particle and rust is getting into the injecters and clogging filters. I been told that Ford is not covering this problem at all. The truck now has 109,000 miles and I no longer have a warranty on the injector. They never told me till after the warranty was up that the fuel tanks where failing. Now from what I can tell everyone is having problems with there fuel tanks. Ford has claimed that it is the caused from bio-fuels but I have never put a drop of bio-fuel in my truck before. I also been told that if you buy a new tank it will have the same problem. My truck will not run all the time and dies on me often. I have been changing filters and now the injectors are acting as if they are damaged. Can you please help? rick.

20 Diesel Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2008

Vehicle has been difficult to start, running rough and bucks and often stalls while driving. Vehicle was recently taken to Ford certified service department for forementioned issue, and was told the fuel tank liner has delaminated and released particles causing damage to the fuel pump, eight injectors, and clogged all filters. Cost of repairs are $5600. 00. Service dept. Advised there is no recall for this issue even though this is a common problem with many of these trucks. I have also searched many discussion forums and found there are many people who are having same issues some who have replaced 3 or 4 tanks and other fuel related parts in the same type vehicles.

21 Diesel Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 08/28/2008

My vehicle has been to the Ford service dept. Serveral times this year for a problem with my acelerator. If I decelerate or stop and go to give it gas again the pedal pushes down but the vehicle will not accelerate.

22 Diesel Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/20/2008

While driving on the highway pulling a trailer my 2005 f -350 diesel quit running and almost got run over by a semi. After pulling off to the side of the road and restarted the truck it ran rough. Was able to get it back to the shop with the hazards on. To find out from the dealer that the fuel tank is delaminating which cause debris to get into the fuel pump and injectors causing it to stall. Ford has know about this problem and they change there fuel tank design but did not inform any owners of this safety defect that could have killed me. Now I am also looking at a $3000. Repair bill that Ford will not back me on. To replace the fuel tank with a new safe one. I am also looking at my other two trucks and wonder if they are safe to drive. I hope that no one will get killed due to this lack of public information by Ford.

23 Diesel Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2007

The contact owns a 2005 Ford F-350 diesel. The contact was driving approximately 45 mph when the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle would not restart despite the attempts of the contact and was towed to an authorized dealer. The dealer stated the fuel tank was delaminated and the interior paint had clogged the engine. The dealer replaced the fuel tank, fuel filters and several fuel injectors December 2007. The failure recurred March 2011 and the vehicle was towed to the dealer where the contact was advised that the fuel tank was rusted from the inside out and the fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel filters, fuel injectors, and egr valve were replaced at a cost of $4,200. The contact then contacted the manufacturer and filed a complaint regarding the failure but no further assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 24,000 and the current mileage was 46,000. Updated 06/01/lj updated 06/02/11.

24 Diesel Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/27/2007

(1) truck would not start (2) potential of traveling and fuel pump stops providing fuel to motor; potential to loose control of vechicle (3) high pressure (r&r ipr sensor, flex pipe an dconnector) was replaced.

25 Diesel Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2006

: the contact stated while traveling at various speeds, the vehicle losses power. The vehicle was towed to the dealership and the injector was replaced.

26 Diesel Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2006

Vehicle had just returned home after being driven a considerable distance. Vehicle shut off for a few minutes when fire started under the hood and moved into cab. Insurance company hired a fire origin and cause analyst and it was determined that fire was caused when fuel leaked from the banjo fitting on the fuel filter onto the hot surface of the engine. The banjo fitting on the lower portion of the fuel filter was covered with a heavy layer of fuel varnish. The bolt in the banjo fitting was checked and found to be extremely loose. This occurred on 6. 0l diesel engine. There looks to have been similar problem on gasoline engines which had a recall date of 6/7/05 and NHTSA id number of 05v266000. Would like to know if Ford has seen problem on diesel engines?.

27 Diesel Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/27/2006

The failure of diesel fuel injectors in the '05 Ford F-350 super duty trucks with the power stroke 6. 0l diesel engine. Vehicle had approx. 14,800 miles on it at the time of the incident. Did not lead to an accident, I feel that it could in another case. There were no warnings that this was going to happen and occurred suddenly without warning. I was driving into town(about 17 miles). On the interstate highway traveling at approximately 75 mph. My vehicle lost most of it's power and began to jerk and sputter as I pulled to the side of the road. Shut vehicle off, did a basic check of the vehicles components and then restarted . Started and ran fine. I began to merge into traffic only to loose significant power and was forced to return to the side of the road. I was seriously slowing the oncoming traffic. I began to limp my truck to the nearest exit ramp. Exited the interstate, my truck died and left me stranded, not able to restart. Vehicle towed to the dealership for repair. At the repair shop, the #1 cylinder injector was determined to have failed and was replaced with a new or rebuilt part. (this is not specified by Ford. ) I did/do not have access to the failed part(s). Approx. 3 weeks after this incident, my truck experienced the same failure (an injector on cylinder #7) with similar results. Ford is well aware of this problem and considers it an "acceptable" design flaw and puts the blame on poor fuel (all other diesel engines will run on fuel station grade fuel, which is only to be expected. ). I know that many others have experienced this problem in the 2003 to the 2006 powerstroke 6. 0l engines. It is a very common problem. In the case of two injectors failing at once, the vehicle would be inoperable with failed braking, steering and power loss. If one injector fails, the vehicle could have erratic power surges and partial or full loss of power with failed or reduced braking and steering. At highway speed, and with no warning this could spell disaster.

28 Diesel Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2005

The contact owns a 2005 Ford f350 super duty. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled numerous times without warning while driving at any speed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer numerous times for the failure. The dealer replaced the fuel injectors, the turbo charger was replaced four times, the head gaskets, and the rear end rings however the failure was not corrected. The vehicle continued to stall without warning and the engine could no longer be started. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign id number: 05v270000 (electrical system: wiring). The failure mileage was 9,368 and the current mileage was 175,000. Updated 8/21/12 the consumer stated the high pressure oil pump, front end seals, end rings, fuel injectors, turbo charger, head gaskets and egr valve were repalced. The transmission was slippiing when the vehicle was put in reverse. The abs light illuminated.

29 Diesel Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2005

The driver of the vehicle was driving on the road when it started to slow down and was losing power. The 2005 Ford f350 diesel truck stalled in traffic and would not run. It was towed to a location where the fuel filters were changed. This did not correct the problem. It was towed to the Ford dealer, who stated that the fuel tank had delaminated and the fuel tank needed to be replaced. Ford claimed that bio diesel caused the problem. Bio diesel is not sold in NJ. The truck never goes out of state. The stalling in traffic is a safety hazard for all drivers. The truck is only 3 years old and has only 25,500 miles.
