Two problems related to engine stall have been reported for the 2008 Ford F-350. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Shortly after the truck is up to operating temperature a constant plume of white smoke continuously emits from the exhaust. Fuel economy has had a substantial loss. During lower levels (1/4 or lower levels of diesel) of fuel capacity the engine will stall and die upon take off. Attempting to restart afterwards was very difficult. During this process a "wrench" appears on the dash and that's about it. I have not checked "codes" yet and the check engine lite in on.
While driving in snowy conditions, the air filter will get clogged with snow causing the engine to stall. On 12/30/2010 at 2pm I drove approximately 20 miles (zip code 57201) and the air filter had 1/2" of snow all around and inside the filter. Discussed with local Ford dealer and they say there is a no fix for this problem could cause vehicle to stall in adverse weather conditions and cause an accident and or strand passengers in adverse weather conditions.
