I have started experiencing the known “death wobble”. I have 68585 miles on truck.

37 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2021

After going over a bump in the road at 70 mph, vehicle began to shake violently. Unable to control the vehicle. Had to come to a complete stop. Checked tires, all tires were good and had good air pressure. Took the vehicle to repair shop. Repair shop referred to the 'death wobble' . They checked for any loose parts in the front suspension/steering and did not find any. They replaced the steering damper indicating sometimes this will fix the issue. Two months later I hit another bump at 70 mph, vehicle started shaking violently again for several seconds. Had to slow to under 50 mph for the shaking to stop.

38 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 10/14/2021

Front end shimmy few times installed new tires it seemed to help. Shimmy came back rebalanced wheels didnt happen for a while. Rotated tires and added new ones in rear. Drove for awhile seemed ok. 2 weeks ago we were driving about 50 mph had a shimmy but turned into violent shaking and truck was headingbinto oncoming traffic. My wife was screaming and ducking down. When it stopped and I steered it back to our lane. I had front end checked last year and before this incendent everything checked out good except stabilizer was dried out. It was replaced. The mechanic there informed us abpit Fords problem with death wobble. Took to dealer for fix after finding letter they said steering damper replacement would fix it. It did not. Ford wanted to replace, track bar, some ball joints and bushings and another allignment. But could not state if it would fix the problem.

I'm told by the men. . . "death wobble"!! 2016 Ford 350 platinum at a certain speed and with a bump in the road, feels like the tires are going to go flying off!! I had to get myself together fast, slow down, and get a better control of the steering! OH man, the accident it could have caused being next to semis and the every day people driving their vehicles!! this could of caused a bad accident on the interstate and with the road work going on in amarillo, texas! this scared the heck out of my daughter!! this puts everyone at risk!! OH, and we pull a fifth wheel RV!! the dealer I went to first wasn't very helpful, matter fact. . . I have not been told or not noted on my oil change/vehicle sheet that anything was wrong. This past week, I took it to another Ford dealership. . . . . Well, everything associated with the "death wobble" needs to be replaced!! I've maintained and took the advice of Ford dealerships, when I was told needed a new radiator, I paid for Ford to put one in. It's not fair that the Ford 2016 and prior doesn't get fixed free of charge or recalled and the 2017 and the above does for the death wobble. It's already bad enough that Ford's death wobble information was withheld from me as well as having a bad radiator when purchasing the truck! it's horrible that Ford knows about the issue and lets it happen. . . . . Puts everyone at risk around the Ford death wobble!!.

40 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2021

On Tuesday September 28, 2021 I was driving my f350 2016 on the freeway at freeway speed 75mph I went over some rough road and my truck started to viiolently shake with out any warning. Luckily I was in the left lane so I proceeded to steer it into the emergency lane fearing for my life not wanting to hit the concrete barrier. I turned my emergency lights on and got out of my truck expecting to find tires missplaced. I got back on the freeway into the slow lane and went home slowly. I called my dealership and made an appt for the next day. After looking at my truck they called me with a $2200 estimate! my truck is a 2016 f350 and only has 43,000 miles on it. This should not be happening, this kind of fear shouldn't be experienced when I love to drive my truck. I am sure this will have an effect on me when I get it back, ptsd. Not a happy Ford driver.

44 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 04/27/2021

I've experienced 4 extreme cases of violent wobbling of the front end, utterly violent and uncontrollable. Tap the brakes it becomes worst. Cant hold the steering wheel, utterly random happened 4 times in the last two weeks. I am scared to drive the truck now and it's my only means of transport. I am terrified it's going to happen and I will crash or kill myself or someone else in a wreck when the truck is shaking out of control. It is truly terrifying. In motion typically on a freeway speed around 50 to 60 mph.

45 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2021

Driving at freeway speeds I experienced the death wobble as the truck hit a freeway overpass bump and then began a violent shake. It was all I could do to hold the shaking steering wheel and bake to a near stop. Accelerating to freeway speeds it shook as if it wanted to wobble again but I reduced speeds down to 55. I have good michelin tires and no load. This same thing happened in the 2014 gas model I had and now I afraid to drive this one. January 2021.

46 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 12/11/2020

I have experienced numerous times the "death wobble" when I hit a bump in the road. The truck shakes violently and totally loses steering until I can slow down to about 10 mph and the shaking stops. It is very scary and has happened several times. It has to be over 55 mph when it happens. The slightest bump on the left front wheel will cause it. One time I was going about 75 mph and thought I wouldn't be able to get it back in my lane. It really scares me and my passengers when it happens . I am afraid to let my wife or kids drive it. Ford won't do anything other than tell me to take it in and get it repaired . I just can't understand how they refuse to take responsibility for all the problems they have had with these issues and will not issue a recall.

47 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2020

Severe shaking and vibration after hitting a small bump in the road. This has happened multiple times now and usually at speeds greater than 50 mph. The violent shaking only subsides when speed is greatly reduced ie below 30mph. It only happens after a small bump in the road.

48 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 09/21/2020

Terrible shaking when cruising at certain speeds. I mainly notice the shaking around 45 mph, and again around 60 mph. I am able to control the shaking by either accelerating to around 70 mph, or braking to below 40 mph. The shaking is so bad sometimes that I feel like I will lose control of the vehicle if I don't speed up or slow down to make the shaking stop. It doesn't matter what type of street I am on as long as I am going fast or slow enough to cause the steering wheel and vehicle to shake uncontrollably.

49 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2020

Currently filed a claim about "death wobble" nd I took the vehicle in and got it "fixed" at a dealership under warranty. I have 47k miles on my truck and even after getting it fixed, I hit a repaired pothole on the highway and got death wobble again at 70 mph. At that speed, there was about 30-45 seconds where you have literally no control over the vehicle. My only saving grace was the person behind me on this highway who put their hazards on and held traffic back as it was peak travel time.

50 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2020

Accelerated into the highway. I was at 70 mph when I went to change lanes when the steering wheel started shaking uncontrollably, I couldn't brake and could hardly manage to keep my hands on the wheel to try and steer to the side of the road. Issue was diagnosed as 'death wobble' which was explained as a suspension issue. Called the dealership and was informed this is a known issue and has been for a long time.

51 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2020

The entire vehicle shakes when driving over a certain speed limit (30+). After researching, this is known to the public as "death wobble".

52 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2020

When driving at highway speed and the truck encounters a bump on the right or left front suspension, sometimes a death wobble (severe tire/suspension bounce) occurs that only can be stopped by slowing severely. The bounce/wobble is so severe that you can not steer or do anything except hang on and jam on the breaks to get it to stop.

53 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2020

Since new a death wobble has occurred while traveling at speeds over 30 mph. This is a random issue that happens when hitting a bump in the road. Sometimes it goes away quickly other times I need to pull over and stop completely.

54 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2019

Extremely violent shaking of steering wheel and truck. Also known as the death wobble. This happens at highway speeds and is in predictable when it will do it.

55 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 11/17/2019

Ford death wobble, defect in front steering damping shock causes truck to severely start shaking when 1 wheel hits ripple in road. You cant stop the violent shaking of truck without almost stopping truck. It shakes entire truck. Happens on highways with ripples in pavement or uneven pavement at speeds around 60 mph or higher. Ford will not do anything about it. Dealership puts after market dual steering stabilizer kit on front end at price of $600. 00.

56 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 10/14/2019

Driving at highway speeds hitting bumps or uneven pavement, uncontrollable, violent steering wheel shaking occurred . Ford dealership said a shock was loose and tightened. A few weeks later it happened again. Ford dealer does all my service work. They did not recommend any front end work, said it looked good.

57 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2019

The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-350. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle hit a pothole and the front-end shook uncontrollably until coming to a complete stop. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnosed with an unknown front-end failure. Several unknown front-end parts needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the failure was called the "death wobble". The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.

58 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2019

I was driving the vehicle straight at about 60 mph on a highway when the vehicle start to shake roughly in an oscillating style, apparently known as the "death wobble". Maintaining control of the vehicle was extremely difficult and required a considerable amount of force to keep the vehicle straight and not crashing into other cars or highway walls. The only way to stop this was to slam on the brakes and bring the vehicle to a complete stop on a highway.

59 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 08/22/2019

I am experiencing a profound "death wobble" in the front end. When driving on the highway and going over uneven pavement, an uncontrollable death wobble occurs and the whole front end shakes violently (causing the tires to skip on the pavement surface-loosing traction) and this "rhythm" cannot be controlled until the speed is brought below 25 miles an hour. This is especially dangerous in a curve in the road. It would be easy to loose control and crash into something/someone! everything on my truck is factory stock. The tires are good and I have made no modifications to the suspension. The dealer acknowledges the problem and wants me to replace good parts at my expense which does not fix the problem. This seems like a definite design flaw. There are many aftermarket parts available that claim to fix the problem. I do not want to put them on because I don't want to give Ford a reason to blame the problem on the aftermarket parts. This seems to be happening to many other people and looks like a serious safety issue!.

60 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2019

My 2016 f 350 has the death wobble took it to dealership they repaired the alignment stabilizer arm and let me go and got on the interstate10 headed to houston got speed up 75 mph and hit bump and almost lost control of the truck,18 wheeler almost run me over; it scared so bad I have a pacemaker I thought I was having a heart attack!!.

61 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2019

My Ford F-350 has experienced the death wobble at speeds from 50-75 mph, it's random and doesn't show any warning signs, it is extremely scary and unnerving to experience. Hitting the brakes makes it violently uncontrollable. My truck has been to the dealership twice for this repair. It has been returned to me in worse shape then before I took it in. I have done tons of research and have found this is a very common problem with all f-250,f-350,f-450,and f-550 trucks and there should be a recall issued! this death wobble is going to get someone killed it, if it hasn't already. I own 3 Ford super duty trucks so far 2 of them have experienced this uncontrollable situation and my 2019 f-550 is showing the same signs as my other 2 trucks before they actually death wobbled. Ford knows of this issue and so does the NHTSA. Please do research and an investigation so this can be taken care of for all super duty owners! or stay away from these trucks if you are a consumer. They have replaced my track bar, steering stabilizer shock and some sort of slugs which I have never heard of. So we will see when I get it back this time if it's any better.

62 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2019

The front suspension exhibits what is commonly referred to as "death wobble". The vehicle has had the front shocks replaced, and it still occurred. The dealer indicated to replace the tires due to cupped tread caused by the worn-out shocks. This was done. The vehicle hasn't had the death wobble in the 100 miles since. However, the service writer at the dealership said that "you can tell it still wants to, but it hasn't yet". I get the same sensation when I drive the vehicle. Our highway speeds here are 65 mph, and our interstate speeds are 80 mph. Prior to the tires being replaced, a driver experienced the death wobble in a situation that's worth reporting. The driver was traveling on a straight stretch of 65 mph two-lane highway when death wobble occurred. The steering wheel was not able to be held onto, and the vehicle crossed the center line into the oncoming lane of traffic. This could have resulted in a fatal head on collision. I believe Ford is aware of the regular occurrence of death wobble in these trucks, but they are either incapable of fixing them, or they don't want to for financial reasons. This is unacceptable from a safety standpoint in my opinion. I cannot agree that cupped tires or worn out shocks are an acceptable trigger for death wobble that has the potential to lead to a head-on collision. It's my belief that more tolerance should be engineered into vehicles so that people who can't or simply don't maintain their vehicles will not be causing avoidable fatalities. This is the first vehicle that I'm aware of that worn-out shocks or cupped tire tread is capable of causing such issues, and it infuriates me that Ford dismisses it. This death wobble has occurred repeatedly in the three years we've been utilizing the vehicle. Many drivers have experienced it.

63 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 06/26/2019

Ford calls it a death wobble they say it's a common problem. Sad when dealership tells you that. Steering stabilizer several other parts will need to be bought to repair this problem. Wobble out of control on the highway can't understand how they can have such unsafe parts that could kill several people. Sad!.

64 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2019

There is an uncontrollable shaking at 60 miles an hour or higher, after investigation it seems that there are hundreds of cases, the shaking has been called " the death wobble" dealerships don't seem to know whats going on and Ford not giving any good solutions. This cant be seen with pictures there is hundreds of videos in youtube about this issue.

65 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2019

The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-350 sd. The contact stated that while driving at speeds exceeding 60 mph, the vehicle would suddenly experience severe front-end vibration and shaking nearly causing the driver to lose control of the steering wheel. The failure had occurred on multiple occasions after driving over a bump in the road. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who installed torsion bars to the suspension however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

66 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 04/19/2019

While in motion at highway speeds, traveling in a straight line, the vehicle shakes violently to the point of almost losing control. The shaking begins when the vehicle drives over a seam, bump, or hole in the road when at highway speeds. It causes the steering wheel to whip back and forth at a high rate of speed almost like a motorcycle when the handle bars whip back and forth (tank slapper). It is not always in the same place on the highway and does not always occur at the same time or place and speed. It can catch a driver off guard and has to be fought to gain control of the vehicle due to the violent nature of the steering wheel. The phenomenon is known by the manufacturer as the "death wobble" and they have a TSB for the problem, but are failing to take responsibility for the issue and are passing the cost to repair on to the consumers. This is a safety issue and can cause loss of control of the vehicle if the shake is severe enough. I took my truck in and they replaced the steering stabilizer. This did not fix the problem. It occurred again on the highway while traveling at highway speed, again in a straight line. Braking does not stop the violent shaking. The shake only stops after the vehicle has slowed considerably. This is a widely documented issue on the internet and several people have video evidence of the issue. It is not related to only this year vehicle. Ford has a severe suspension issue which must be corrected by the manufacturer. Recall and repair.

67 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 03/29/2019

The death wobble on a 2016 Ford f 350. I hit an expansion joint and I thought I had a blown tire . Got out of the truck and checked to see if I had a blown tire? nope proceeded down the road no problems! the the next day hit a pot hole and same thing happened. Had a shop replace track bar bushing and thought it was fixed, mind you not two days later it occurred again , now I bought this truck used with 23000ish miles and the Ford dealer I bought it from did not tell tell me anything about a lift kit that was installed replacing the shocke steering dampener and added a dual steering stabilizer, after 800$ later nothing has changed.

68 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2018

Popularly referred to as "death wobble". At speeds above 50 mph, the truck instantly goes from full control to an uncontrolled state of severe oscillation that can only be stopped by stopping or slowing the vehicle to 10 mph or less. There is no prior warning that this is about to occur and it does not occur all the time - extremely random - usually occurs when the truck hits a rough patch of road or a bridge/pavement expansion joint. The condition is manifested by violent shaking of the front end accompanied by the steering wheel being jerked out of the driver's hands, resulting in complete loss of steering control. This causes an extremely hazardous condition for other vehicles as well as the problem truck. Ford has issued a TSB for this problem 18-2258, consisting of a replacement steering dampener and various alignment components. This kit, installed by a Ford dealer into my vehicle, had absolutely no effect on the problem and in fact it occurred twice since installation. Thus far, it has happened a total of four times with my truck, an f350-2016. This problem is severe, it is extremely dangerous and sooner or later, someone will be injured or killed. For the fhtsa - I have dashcam movies of this.

69 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 11/18/2018

I posted highway speeds the vehicle shakes when hitting a bump and continues to shake until I slow down.

70 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2018

I experienced death wobble while driving approximately 70mph after hitting a rough patch of straight road on the highway. Extremely violently shaking! I ended up in the shoulder of the road. I could not control the truck until I got to a near complete stop. There was a total loss of control. Miraculously avoided a wreck on the highway.
