31 problems related to steering wheel vibrate have been reported for the 2017 Ford F-350. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Turned vehicle to the left on to a main roadway, got speed up to about 40 miles per hour, ran over a small bump/dip in the roadway, steering wheel began to shake uncontrollably. Had to slow to almost a complete stop to bring steering wheel under control and allow vehicle to continue to travel safely.
Driving at approx. 65 mph my F-350 4x4's steering wheel began to shake very hard, enough to have a dps state trooper heading in the opposite direction notice. He made a u-turn, caught up to me, put on his lights and stopped me. What I thought was a traffic stop turned out to be a safety check. He told me that he stopped me because he had noticed my wheels wobbling and thought that I was in danger of crashing. I had told the officer that the wobbling stopped once I reduced my speed to about 40 or so. Tires were close to needing changing, I replaced my tires and the problem stopped until recently. It is starting to wobble now and then only after an additional 15,000 miles. This is clearly not a once in a million event, this is something that I have heard many times among other Ford owners to show them we need to be taken care of. My life is worth more than a bad engineering design. Did I buy a $ 73,000. 00 coffin?.
While driving approximately 70 mph on I-40 eastbound in east tennessee I went through some rough patches and potholes in the roadway. This resulted in my steering wheel begin to shake violently back and forth, making it almost impossible to hold on to and control. Because of the lack of traffic I was able to quickly apply the brakes and once it reduced speed to about 30 to 40, it stopped. During the next 200 miles it occurred 3 more times. Once while driving at 60 mph and going over a rough patch where a bridge and road meet, and two other times due to potholes that I was able to prevent/stop a full blown violent shaking episode by driving slower and being aware of what might happen. Had I been in traffic or anywhere else it might have resulted in an accident.
"death wobble" March 2020 driving down the road (it was a very straight section of road) at about 60 mph the steering wheel began to shake violently, controlling the vehicle was difficult aggressive braking slowed the vehicle and the shaking stopped. The nearest Ford dealer installed a new steering damper following the incident. September 2020 this time I was towing a 39 foot fifth wheel RV. Same violent shaking also at highway speed 70 mph straight road. Again aggressive braking returned control of the vehicle to me. No accident or injuries associated with either incident but it was sure scary! my vehicle has less than 20,000 miles on it.
At approx. 20,000 miles my truck developed a issue when ever I reached speeds above 55mpds and hit a rough patch in any road. The steering wheel began to shake violently and you could feel the front end shake. You would drop your speed down to a crawl and it will stop.
Tl-the contact owns a 2007 Ford 350. While driving 55-65 mph steering wheel was shaking violently after coming to a stop the vehicle worked as designed. There were no warning lights illuminated. Additionally, while driving 30-40 mph the steering wheel was shaking uncontrollably, . After coming to a complete stop the vehicle work as designed. The vehicle was taken to suburban Ford 37000 us-26, sandy, or 97055: (503) 668-5511 where diagnosed a forced wheel balance was needed but was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 23,000. Ap.
I was driving on the interstate at about 70 mph when I hit a small pot hole in the road and my truck began to shake uncontrollably. The steering wheel was shaking violently and I could barely hold onto it. I had to immediately try to get out of traffic and pull off the side of the road to get it to stop.
While driving on the interstate I hit an uneven piece of pavement which caused my steering wheel to begin shaking violently. I immediately decelerated in attempt to regain control and maintain lane position. It is a reoccurring problem. Every time I see a bump, pothole, uneven pavement, etc, in my path, I grip the steering wheel as tightly as possible and brace for the worst. I have researched the problem and seems to be a well known and very serious problem among Ford owners. Something need to be done to correct this problem immediately. Sticker price on my truck was 77,250. That's a steep price tag for a truck that is barely driveable. Furthermore, my children ride in that truck. That's unacceptable. Ford needs to be held accountable and made to fix their inferior and dangerous design.
While driving on interstate @ approximately 70 mph and going straight, I hit a small bump in the road with the left front tire. There were 4 people in the truck and we were pulling a 21 foot boat approximately 4000 pounds. The steering wheel began to shake so I let off of the throttle, the shaking became more violent and began to veer uncontrollably to the left. The shaking was so violent that I could not see clearly and my passengers thought the truck was coming apart. The only recourse in my mind was to jam on the brakes. This did eventually stop the shaking after slowing the vehicle to a speed of less than 30 mph. Fortunately there were no semi's or other vehicles behind us at the time. The stress of the shaking on the steering system has now caused vibrations while traveling at lower speeds. The truck was serviced for a vibration problem on 9/6/2019 with 20512 miles on it. There is now only 23300 miles on the truck.
The truck violently shakes and bounces in the front end and steering wheel shakes almost unable to control steering direction. This has happened 2 times in the past month both while driving on 2 different highways after hitting a bump on the highway going straight forward and the other after driving over the metal end dam after the approach slab before a bridge on a gradual left turn in the road sent me in the shoulder. Had to slow to 35mph +\- to regain control and normal operation.
I was traveling at approximately 65mph on i84 when I hit a rough patch of road and I almost lost control of the truck. The steering wheel began to shake violently and the the entire truck began to shake making it next to impossible to control the truck. I came to a stop on the emergency lane and truck continued to shake until I came to a complete stop. Very dangerous situation, the highway had a slight left bend when I drove over the rough spot which is not even that bad of a spot and I drive it everyday with my other vehicle. It felt as though the steering had broken loose and had there been other vehicles around it could have been very bad if not deadly.
We were driving our f350 with 31,000 miles on it down the highway towing a camper at 65 mph. We hit a small bump in the highway and the steering wheel started shaking violently causing me to almost run off the road before getting it stopped. Immediately called my Ford dealership and they said it is normal but to bring it in for repair? I took the truck in and they replaced the front steering stabilizer shock and said it was fixed. 900 miles later I am driving the truck down the highway towing a 12,000 lb. Loaded gooseneck trailer down the road when it happens again at 60 mph! even worse this time. I called Ford and they said again that it is normal and they will order an aftermarket steering stabilizer to put on it this time. This is bsolutely ridiculous and insanely unsafe. If my wife had been driving we would have wrecked both times for sure. I dont know how they can sell a 90,000$ truck knowing it has this problem! I have a video in mp4 format of the first time it ever did it to me but I cant get it to upload.
Hit a bump in the road at 50mph +, the steering wheel began to shake violently making the vehicle impossible to control. I had to hit the brakes hard and slow way down to regain control of the truck. This nearly caused the car behind me to rear end me on one occasion. This has happened to me 3 times in the last month. I have only experienced this unloaded with no trailer on straight roads, thus far. The vehicle is right at 19,000 miles, still under warranty. It should not behave this way. Even when the wobble doesn't happen, the vehicle will sometimes jump to one side or another going over angled joints in the road. If you are not paying extreme attention, you will be in the median. This has happened many times in the last few months. It simply isn't very safe to drive without a high payload. The wobble occurred multiple times at the same bridge joint going in two directions. The jumping to the side occurs almost daily at the same joint. The wobble occurred a separate time on another road. Both roads are 2-3 lane city thoroughfares. Not really city street or highways, but I supposed divided highway is the best description . I just replaced stock/original tires, hoping those have something to do with it.
On several occasions, the steering wheel shakes violently, making the truck hard to control. This happens at freeway speeds. It seems the only way to make the shaking stop is to rapidly brake the vehicle. Sudden braking iand limited steering control n heavy, fast traffic seems dangerous to me.
Driving down highway around 75 mph and ran over a rough patch in road and my steering wheel started shaking violently. Whole truck shook. Slowed down to 60 and it stopped. Pulled over to inspect under front end and rear. Couldn't find anything out of place. Got back on h. W. And got back up to 75 and no shaking. Hit another spot on a bridge where pavement connects bridge and it happened again. Took to dealership and they told me it that I needed new tires. Which I did. Replaced with factory michelins. They also put a new steering damper on. Got truck back several days later and while driving under 60 there are no problems. Above 60 the steering starts shaking a bit, but not like the death wobble. At 75 mph it is the same, along with what seems to be a rear end vibration. Called dealership and they said a part was on back order and would call. Haven't heard back in months. So, I called and they said the part is on back order. Having to borrow a car from mother in law to get around. I purchased a warranty that will expire at 60,000 and was told that if I go over, it will still be under the original claim and I would not have to pay the $75 deductible. I will get that in writing hopefully this week. With these vibrations, it know it will wear out other front end parts like ball joints and tie rods that hopefully will be replaced at no cost. Doubtful! this is my 4th Ford truck and have not had any of these problems with other trucks. I have only 57,000 miles and this should be a recall and Ford is running from it. Very disappointed. Please help!.
Tl the contact owns a 2017 Ford F-350. While driving approximately 45 mph and above, the steering wheel began to shake violently and the vehicle exhibited the death wobble. Krause family Ford (located at 195 woodstock pkwy, woodstock, GA 30188, 877-808-3640) replaced the steering damper, but the failure continued. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided case number: cas-24549-129-j988w2. The approximate failure mileage was 15,000.
Multiple instances ~15 of death wobble where the truck and steering wheel shake violently. Normally at speeds above 55 mph when hitting a bump or rough road. Started occurring only when turning and hitting a bump, but now happening when driving straight. Requires slowing quickly to below 30 mph to stop shaking, making it very dangerous for myself and other drivers on the highway. Stock f350 drw with 32k miles.
Was traveling on a 2 lane highway in a corner around 60-65 mph when I hit a small hole in the road and the steering wheel began shaking back and forth in a very unsafe fashion. Truck only has 33k miles on it. I notice prior to the incident that in similar situations the steering became very "loose", but this last time it shook much more.
At 45-65 mph if the truck hits the slightest bump in the road the tires and steering wheel start shaking uncontrollably. You lose all control of the vehicle unless you can stop the vehicle before causing a crash. The first time this happened the truck drifted through 4 lanes before coming to a stop.
Death wobble. Truck has 6000 miles on it, when I hit the expansion joint on the bridge at 55mph steering wheel shakes uncontrollably and nearly caused me to crash vehicle (happened 4 times). Truck is new w/ 6000 miles on it. Just happened again at a small pothole when I was going 35mph.
I experienced "death wobble" while driving approximately 65 mph on interstate 35 in northern IL on 3-9-19. This started after I ran over a minor road bump. The steering wheel began to shake violently. I almost lost control but was able to reduce speed which stopped the vibration and pull over to the side of the road. This did happen again on 3-10-19 while driving approximately 45 mph. I have an appointment with my Ford's service department on 3-13-19.
When driving over 50 miles per hour truck has "death wobble" steering wheel shakes and front end feels unsafe at highway speeds.
While driving approximately 75mph on the highway, I drove across a joint in the pavement (small bump) and the steering wheel started shaking back and forth violently, and the entire truck started shaking, vibrating and jumping around the lane. I had felt a few steering wheel shimmies prior to the major vibration/shake, but they dissipated quickly. When the steering wheel shook violently, I had to pull over onto the shoulder and reduce the speed to about 40 mph before the shaking stopped. I then proceeded driving as I had before, noticing smaller steering wheel shimmying when going over bumps.
Coming a interstate bridge at 60 mph the steering wheel started shaking badly. I had to slow down to stop the shaking.
Ford f350 uncontrollable steering oscillation beginning around 12/3/18 @ approximately 20,000 miles on truck I began experiencing vibrations in steering. Reached out to dealer from where vehicle was purchased new 1 year earlier. Reported issues and was informed its a known issue but could not be seen till January 15,2019. On 12/16/18 while merging lanes on highway(approx. 60 mph) steering wheel began shaking uncontrollably causing vehicle to swerve lane to lane. Control was able to be regained only after slowing to minimal speed(assuming 20 mph or so). Incident caused all immediate traffic to stop. Vehicle was driven into breakdown lane . Upon exiting vehicle ,a witness to incident also pulled over . As a owner of a 17 f250 he informed me of what is called deathwobble which he had experienced in prior months. With information a second dealership was contacted ,with there response being they are aware of possible causes but could take it immediately. Vehicle was delivered on 12/20/18. Diagnosed with a TSB 18-2268/06-22214. Repairs will be made, however parts are back ordered till 1/29/19. Truck was deemed unsafe by dealer an was recommended not to drive. As of 1/5/19 Ford customer manager has been brought into case ,whom also stated they were aware of possible causes of incident yet reassured me she would be able to expiate parts. This appears to be a known problem on commercial weighted vehicles with the ability to lead to catastrophic damages to unknowing owners an general public.
Steering wheel shakes out of my hand . Truck goes left when hitting bump on streets at a speed of 40 mph or higher.
Continue to experience the "Ford death wobble" steering oscillation. I have been to the dealership 4 times and the problem continues. The incident usually occurs while traveling highway speeds and started at approximately 15,000 miles. Whin this occurs, it is usually when crossing a seam on the road from a bridge or hitting a rough patch in the highway. The steering wheel begins shaking violently causing you to fight keeping the vehicle under control. I have to slow down to about 30 mph in order to get it to stop, which is quite dangerous while on the interstate. My current mileage is 20,400. I have been told by the dthat they have been working closely with engineers at Ford hq in an attempt to resolve the problem and have made the following modifications to my vehicle without any success in correcting the issue: adjusting the camber on every visit, added 2 different size of shims, replaced both steering dampers, and most recently add a 1 1/2" leveling kit. Unfortunately the issue still is not resolved, the vehicle is unsafe to drive and impacting my ability to use the vehicle for the purpose it was purchased for.
Tl the contact owns a 2017 Ford F-350. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced the death wobble. While driving 65 mph, the steering wheel shook violently without warning. The contact depressed the brake pedal to slow the vehicle down to 20 mph and the steering wheel began to shake less. The contact was able to drive the vehicle to his destination. The failure recurred numerous times. The contact called vern eide Ford Lincoln (located at 2300 n main st, mitchell, sd 57301, (605) 996-5614) where an appointment was scheduled. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer and was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. The approximate failure mileage was 18,000.
Tl-the contact owns a 2017 Ford F-350. While driving at various speeds the steering wheel was shaking and there was abnormal clunking noise detected. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to sames kingsville Ford 2501 us-77, kingsville, TX 78363 (888) 903-4562 where diagnosed the steering shaft needed to be replaced however the failure recurred. The manufacturer was contacted but no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 2,000. Ap.
While driving down the highway I hit a dip in the road and the steering wheel started shaking violently. I let off the gas and slowed down and the shaking stopped. I had approximately 10,000 miles on the truck. I avoid all bumps and dips now. It has happened 8 or 9 times. I have never had the truck looked at for the problem, now that I have read about all the other people with the same issue I will take it to the dealer ship. I just thought it had something to do with the fact that its a heavy duty suspension.
At speeds above 45 mph and often after hitting a bump in the road, or a separation in a bridge pavement joint, the front end of the truck shakes and vibrates uncontrollably. While this is occurring, the steering wheel shakes in your hands violently. This condition is very unnerving and greatly reduces the ability to control the truck. The only thing that brings the truck back to a controllable status is to slow down considerably. This is unpredictable and dangerous. Ford is aware of this situation but cannot offer a solution. Unacceptable for any vehicle and especially a vehicle that cost $70k.
